Boy what an effort!!!
Best win I’ve seen in ages
The whole game... we only got stronger. Had issues with injury, kicked 12.1
Membrey kicked a beaut
Hunter was incredible
Hill bounced back
The rucks worked well
A 4 quarter effort launched us to third... and a small but very vocal Saints crowd at the game sang our song for the last 10min
Loved it

Man I'm so happy.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
Gutsiest effort in a very long time.
After crumppling like a house of cards against Freo, we've really bounced back.
Considering the opposition, the venue, the crowd, the travel, the turnaround, the fact that they threw everything at us and had us on the ropes for large parts of the game, the pressure and everything, it was a gutsy, gutsy effort.
They ought to be really proud of themselves

Very proud of the boys.
Superb effort.
Belief is building.
They will tell themselves they can beat anyone.....Very good response to the Freo loss....could easily have gone the other way....well done Ratts

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
See the other thing I liked...
Coffield, Kent, King, Butler... all contributed albeit far from their best performances, and a whole other section of the team stood up
Clarke’s best game of the season, Marshall and Ryder were deadly, Hill bounced back, Membrey kicked the goals that matter...
Feel like we’re a dangerous all round team

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
We have a very good coach whose message is getting through to a talented bunch of young players. Our setting up at stopages and our defensive zones have become a real strength. We still need more work on our F50 entry but boy are we making the most of them. Our defence is becoming very very good. We have potential top 4 team folks and the right man in charge.

Defence wins championships and we are putting together a very good young defensive unit
Just need to bolster our midfield now

Fantastic team effort. Just brilliant. Everyone contributed. But Paddy and Hunter were sublime.

Pbly elite midfield talent is the biggest deficiency or enough of it to say the least. Need for some upgrades there.

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
I'm pretty sure we have never beaten Port when they have been any good. Even in the glory years.
All our wins against them was when they weren't competing.
True?

Geeez hard to argue to the contrary... 2004 comes to mind as a season where they gave us our 2 costliest losses

Injuries to Ross and Hannebery and Dunstan, too. But crisis creates opportunity

Indeed.
I can remember beating them in 2006 and 2008 but not sure if they were competing.
A truly appalling record.

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
When we got 2 goals up in the last I thought "This is going to be mega-stressful" as we go defensive and try to hang on whilst we watched the clock tick slowly.
But instead we kicked away and sealed it!
I think the key was that incredible period in the 3rd when Port set up an impenetrable defensive wall and relentlessly attacked.
We were totally starved of any forward options but we got numbers back and defended for all we were worth.
It was exhausting to watch and I think the lack of scoreboard impact for all their efforts deflated Port physically and mentally.

Agree reckon we go hard at a star mid or 2.....we’d be seriously top 4 with that think a Kelly type that’s all we miss imo
Coach has to get some credit he clearly gets selection and game day right plus he can develop a young squads belief very impressive Ratts.

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
Just watched the replay.
Fantastic effort
Hind and Parker were good.
Manic forward line pressure applied.
Coffield was much better than I thought initially. Stood in the hole numerous times in front of a leading Dixon.
Kings mark in the last quarter ( he is now running out matches- look out!)
Clark and Steele starting to look like a duo .
Steele 21 touches vs Boak 15.
Seb actually had a pretty good game, kicking remains a problem, but was dishingit out nicely by hand.
Wilkie is Dempster Mk 2 - Huge rap on this bloke
Gresh, Butler, Kent just loving their footy - Kent has lost that scowl he's worn for last 2 years and looks confident and happy
Hill - more than serviceable if not yet spectacular.
Good to see him actually tackle a couple of times in the last quarter.
Paton will be there for years alongside Wilkie , Coffield and Howard
Really cool head and bob's up with marks out of nowhere. Just reads it well. Good turn of pace and confidence growing.
Good depth now with talented players pushing for spots...first time in a long time.
Best win for ages and big turning point for Stkilda....go Ratten, has obviously engendered a great and trusting atmosphere.

You Guys/Girls are so eloquent. Share the euphoria. Just to note: Tim Membrey's 100th AND he won the toss. Great milestone he will never forget. Like us. Oh boy!

Re: Boy what an effort!!!
Just a great gutsy win. Port threw the kitchen sink at us at the start of the 3rd quarter and (with the baying port crowd behind them) we withheld the storm and kicked a couple ourselves. Then the 4th quarter domination (the opposite of recent history) was superb....and we’re kicking straight!
