Correct it's just blatant biased. Jones would attack the ball pick it up get tackled immediatley hand ball get pinged for holding.

Re: Let’s talk umpires and cheating
Sorry mate - you're flat out wrong here. Meredith at 345 games; Donlon at 294 games and Pannel at 205 games (50 odd finals games incl G/Fs) is about the most experienced crew out there. And they've pretty much umpired all the Qld games together since resumption.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Mon 20 Jul 2020 11:19pmNot even the commentators can!Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Mon 20 Jul 2020 11:15pm Can anyone explain the holding the ball rule?
The interpretation seems to change from contest to contest!
I, however, know the secret!
There are 3 umpires - One was paying everything - one was paying nothing - and the other a little from column A and a little from column B. (Like 3 siblings)
Quite simply - these 3 umpires are not the best in the league - Us vs the bottom of the ladder team did not warrant that - so we got 3 that were not on the same page!
So - as much as last night was absolute shite - don't blame the umpires - they're just doing as they're told.
The problem is that that little angry fvcking gnome from Hawthorn had a whinge about free kicks and as usual, the sycophant nobs at the AFL react instantaneously to make the midget fvck happy. SHocking has blood on his hands all over this shite - it's rubbish. The umpires spent the last however many years umpiring the game one way only to be told on a Monday that they had to interpret the rules another way. On that basis - what did you think was going to happen? Roo and Browny said it perfectly last night - it's a lottery.
And worse still - it's not just a lottery from week to week - it's a lottery from game to game in the same round ... and last night - a lottery in game.
It's utterly fvcked and ruining an otherwise good game.

Of course we got the pox end of the stick. Undeniable. But it was crap both ways at times - no chance in hell that Hill's wasn't holding the ball or Tex not getting pinged for his 720 degree spin. it is a lottery.saynta wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 11:06amNo f****** lottery AFAIC, Last night at one stage the frees for holding the ball were 12 to 3 the crows way.And that is bulls***. 6 of their 8 goals came courtesy of a free kick ffs.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 10:59amSorry mate - you're flat out wrong here. I'm guessing those 3 umps will get a few weeks off, not for a terrible performance, but for blatantly going against the AFL backed umpiring conspiracy against us and handing us 6 GOALS (5 frees + Tex robbed) which is obviously against their directive.
The AFL can't let this slide, they've got to do better, get some blokes in who know how to cheat properly!

Re: Let’s talk umpires and cheating
29-19 in a game where we won the contested possession count, tackle count, and clearances.
One sided by a fair margin.
The free kick count does not have to be even, but it should reflect the team that wins the ball more and tackles better.
Lop-sided free kick counts against us is not news.
It's been happening for the better part of a decade now.
We're either a terribly undisciplined team or everyone else is better than us for not conceding free kicks.
I also don't buy the home team malarky. Experienced umpires should not be influenced by that.
Umpires in cricket aren't sucked in by home team crowds. Sure they make mistakes but it's never completely lop-sided as it is in the AFL.

My point was that they shouldn't be. And there's no excuse or rationalisation that justifies it.
They need to be better than that.
But then you have teams like North and the Dogs that dominate the count, too.
No advantage to the AFL to have them be successful.

The disparity in the treatment of King and Walker (aside from the mark the umpires erred in not giving) was chalk and cheese and completely inexplicable. The umpire's match review should be a hoot.

Re: Let’s talk umpires and cheating
I find it annoying to see Walker in the best players for Crows when two of his three goals were ridiculous umpire gifts.
Howard beat him pointless last night.
Some of the holding the ball decisions were crazy, as if you look at the one against Geary on three quarter time that cost a goal.
The ball landed at Geary’s feet and the Adelaide player landed on Geary giving him absolutely no prior opportunity.
The umpiring would have to have gifted Adelaide at least three goals.

Yep this is the huge problem. King has his arms chopped Hartigan was peeling off his man to block but King didn't get a free. Walker got two that were never there.

Re: Let’s talk umpires and cheating
Umpiring is a major problem for the AFL. It cannot attract sufficient competent umpires. It seems to me that until a professional full time cadre is created umpiring will continue to devalue the game - including Brownlow Medal. There is (was?) so much money in the game and so much peed up against the wall trying to get the Suns and or GWS a premiership. A good proportion of that could have been invested in improving umpires/umpiring. Does it not follow that excellent umpiring improves the product and then largely pays for itself. Might also reduce game day violence. I would not dare to suggest the social issues the AFL has championed are not important - but umpiring is a fundamental. When doing a budget go for bang for buck not CEOs wet dreams - I'd suggest.

The Brownlow is, and always has been, the umpires award. It will have value because of its history.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 2:29pm Umpiring is a major problem for the AFL. There are many awards now that are gaining importance. The Player MVP and Coaches Award should be given more weight.
I'd like to see a consolidated media award also.

The umpiring could be perfect, and people still wouldn't be happy, as most of the decisions are subjective. Fans can look at the exact same decision and have polar opposite opinions on what the right call is depending who they support.Yorkeys wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 2:29pm Umpiring is a major problem for the AFL. Look at last night, the 50m penalty against Hill was 100% correct, no debate, unfortunate as it was because he clearly didn't mean to impact on the player taking his kick, but that's the rule, yet there were still fans on here crying 'cheat' for it being paid.
Also I'd be interested to hear how the umpiring situation is being handled in the hubs, as I assume they're in the same boat as players having to leave their lives in Vic behind, but without similar reimbursement.

Re: Let’s talk umpires and cheating
If clubs and players are getting the same treatment people would be at least happier. It is clearly not the case and last night we witnessed it first hand. Only minutes after the 50 against Hill Taylor Walker did the same thing but wasn't penalized.The_Dud wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 2:46pmThe umpiring could be perfect, and people still wouldn't be happy, as most of the decisions are subjective. Might also reduce game day violence. I would not dare to suggest the social issues the AFL has championed are not important - but umpiring is a fundamental. When doing a budget go for bang for buck not CEOs wet dreams - I'd suggest.

We're either a terribly undisciplined team or everyone else is better than us for not conceding free kicks.

Umpires base is 65k a year plus match payments hardly on the poverty line.

Easy for them to double or triple their earnings by betting on long shots though.
Pity for them last night that one of the maggots wasn't in on the fix.
