Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?
This is not bending over. This was smart.
They can’t offer an early plea discount on a straight referral but they can sure as hell give you one anyway.
The media was baying for 4 weeks plus and, frankly, despite the lack of intent I thought he would cop that on a contest.
Content with the 3. 2 was out of the question on parity grounds.

Re: Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?
The club was wise to negotiate given that the AFL is corrupt.
We could not expect the same outcome as Cotchin's bump on Shiel in the 2017 preliminary final that got zero weeks despite their similarity, bum to the head.
We could not expect the same 2 week outcome of Shiel's bump on Curtis Taylor which included shoulder to the head either.
The AFL is still quietly apologising to Essendon for the doping penalties they justly deserved.
3 weeks is the best St Kilda could get away with for Long.
Yes, we could have fought if we were not so heavily in debt to the AFL.
But the AFL needs examples to say to mothers "see we are making the game safe for your child to play".

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Standard for a StKilda player. Apparently Long was to send a message according to AFL360 last night. Shiel and Ebert no dramas guys take the charity StKilda will cop it.

Re: Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?
I’m finding this all very confusing. If this isn’t an example of double standards then, I ask what is?
The doofus Freo ruckman bent down ffs.
This along with Noosa decision makes me think that St Kilda are an expendable 3rd class citizen.
I wonder which club is first in line for execution when the AFL has to rationalise the competition.

Re: Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?
3 weeks is about right for me - we all know the penalty is affected by the outcome and the guy was knocked out. Long had the option of going for the ball or bumping and he chose to bump/shepherd....once you make this choice you will get rubbed out if the opponent is injured. Like it or not, these are the rules and have been for several years.

What's the "Noosa Decision"? I thought this was considered a win for us last week.SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jul 2020 11:17am I’m finding this all very confusing. If this isn’t an example of double standards, then I ask, what is?

I think it’s self explanatory.
By who exactly and how's it a win?

Yep got shafted royally here. Sure it's a great place for a holiday but it's not close to any ground.SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jul 2020 12:17pmReally?dalboy wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jul 2020 11:29amWhat's the "Noosa Decision"? Anyone notice that it's been basically like a normal season for Collingwood.

Re: Ben Long's Bump - Any defence?
Well, maybe i am wrong. We have a facility to ourselves, have taken the entire list away, nicer than a Melbourne winter - i heard more than one AFL commentator say that this could work in our favour.

Were up to our 4th week (for the Port game) to be wearing the crappy white uniform. Is there any chance afl of being named the home team anytime soon?SaintPav wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jul 2020 11:17am I’m finding this all very confusing. If this isn’t an example of double standards, then I ask, what is?

I believe we have saved on excess luggage by only taking the one 'uniform / strip'.Jacks Back wrote: ↑Wed 15 Jul 2020 11:11pmWere up to our 4th week (for the Port game) to be wearing the crappy white uniform. I just saw Darcy playing in the Derby? So no serious damage done?; is it too late to appeal the three weeks on the basis of new evidence.

Great to see Darcy playing after he got decapitated by Long who now sits on the bench for 3 weeks
Amazing what medical science can do these days with decapitated heads

“But Christian said recent suspensions of Bomber Dylan Shiel and St Kilda utility Ben Long, along with the McStay ban, were a strong statement”
“McStay made a clear election to bump from a front on position”
On this basis you have to feel for Long and legal process, legal process being based on precedent
