Another Big #12 Rising Star????
With Rowell doing his shoulder today, Max's chances at a Rising Star have increased.
If he can be in contention for the Coleman and lay off some of the candy he did on Thursday - we may have another big #12 as the Rising Star!
He has kicked 7.2 for the season so far.

I don't know how the rising star is awarded, but you'd almost give it to Rowell even if he missed the rest of the season.

I think you need to play a minimum of 15 games but now that the season has been shortened who knows?

Re: Another Big #12 Rising Star????
Why?
He's been pretty good. Very good in 2 against pathetic opposition.
I actually think he'll have a bit of the Mark McGough's about him.
He's a bull, no doubt. But aside from experience, I don't see much upside.
I cohld be wrong.

He's probably in the top 5 players in the league, let alone rising stars in rounds 2,3,4.
Been a figurehead and leader in turning a bottom team into a competitive one.

Umm - Sportsbet have already paid out on him as the winner - so I am guessing your view is the minority.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 9:09pmWhy?

Re: Another Big #12 Rising Star????
Yeah, that's what the AFL media keep crapping on about.
But in reality, he was Ok'ish in R1, very good when they flogged the pathetic Adelaide in R2, very good against the Eagles in R3, very good against the woeful Dockers, and touched it twice today.
So literally 2 really good games against complete rabbles.
1 against food opposition.
Before anyone gets too carried away, you need to wait until everyone has played both Adelaide and Freo at home.

From your mouth to your favourite Deities Ears - our next two oppositions - and possibly Winx's Official Launch Party! (No pressure)BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 9:28pmYeah, that's what the AFL media keep crapping on about.

I've read some of the cr@p you have written on this forum and just shook my head, but this just about tops it all for ignorance.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 9:09pmWhy?

Comparing McGough and Rowell, inference being a couple of good early games and fizzle out I assume or is it slow and will only perform on a mud heap? Perhaps its he'll get dumped after 30 games?
Having part time residence on the GC I have had the opportunity to watch the Suns train pre-covid and Rowell is the full package, strong, tough, skills, good pace and endurance and the guy is a leader already in that he is vocal at training.
He's a lot more Joel Selwood that Mark McGough ans rolled out the best 4 games from a debutante since Selwood & Judd.
had Rowell not played this season I would still believe he will be a star of the competition.

The comparison is 'the man-child walking into the comp with an adult body and naturally making an impact. But like McGough and guys like Dunstan and Picconi, they often don't improve all that much from their early years'.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 9:52pm

I see a bit of that in Rowell. He looks like much of his output is physical, rather than football ability.

I know you're running hot tonight Baz but good to see you've kept a sense of humour.
That's the worst call I've heard since a Collingwood mate said, "Robert Harvey is a good ordinary player." in 1995.

You could have rolled with "I disagree" perhaps?
Pace?
Skill?
A bright start to burn out quickly?
Dumped after 30 games?
What d o you see in Rowell that brought Mc gough to mind?

Re: Another Big #12 Rising Star????
Fair point re man child, but worth noting he doesn't need to improve greatly from his debut games, just maintaining that level of intensity with maturity, experience, multiple pre-seasons and moderate improvement gives him a very fine career.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 04 Jul 2020 10:09pmThe comparison is 'the man-child walking into the comp with an adult body and naturally making an impact. McGoughs biggest challenge was he couldn't run out of sight on a dark night.

If we are making comparisons now, compare Barry's "bold" statements to those of Nick BlueNRG and you get the Chris Judd and Joel Selwood of "bold" statements!
They are certainly "out there", so to speak.

Another who was referred as a very weird unit (but good bloke) was Brett Peake.

He was looking like the youngest Brownlow medallist ever and in his first season.
Why couldn't he have been in the 2014 draft instead of Petracca.
Surely someone would have told Trout, no you can't have McCartin.

McGough was a brilliant VFL mid fielder but he was too slow for the AFL.
