The Coff has arrived!
Was that his best game for the club?
Seems to be rising by the week.
Led the backline and allowed Gears to be our forward line enforcer.
Simply outstanding game.

Amazing what a little faith in the player and perseverance does with the young kids.
Has gotten better every week,
Imagine if AR was still coach. Nick would have been dropped after round one and Newnes would still be playing

Not true.
Coff has always shown poise and kept composure, now he is a man not a scrawny kid.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
Saw him up against Jack Steele and a few others when they sang the song at the end and he’s a nice size. Good glutes
I love the constant movement from the Coff. He shows an element of urgency and he’s got those quick little short steps on his toes so the opposition isn’t quite sure which way he’s going.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
He was also hesitant to play on and second guessing himself, and prone to the easy kick sideways or backwards.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Thu 02 Jul 2020 11:27pmNot true.

I used to note that when he won the ball that he often looked backwards before he looked forwards.
The last two weeks these negative aspects of his game have vanished and especially tonight.
Tonight that U18 year old player that we drafted was back.
He is keeping Robbo out of the team, and tonight he was playing like Robbo at his best.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
There was play where he burnt off Sam Walsh - looked like he was going to get caught but he was strong enough to break the tackle and get separation - cool and calm with some deceptive pace and a great kick
Still needs to eliminate a few fumbles though

Re: The Coff has arrived!
I was always bullish about Coff after hearing stories about him from a mate whose is son is best mates with him...was stoked when we called his name. I knew he was a hard worker, was strong with a Nathan Buckley type mindset about preparation & has the mongrel that comes with that mindset. Clark & Coffield = excellent draft picks that a team & a club can be built around.

Not true. Coff looked like a rabbit in the headlights his first couple of years. Agree with the OP. Is starting to come of age, making better decisions with the ball and looking so much more composed. Best game for the club last night.Trev from the Bush wrote: ↑Thu 02 Jul 2020 11:27pmNot true.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
I like Geary, Webster is a good AFL footballer & Savage has had a decent career, but the backline now has some dash and skill with Clark, Long & Coffield and we can set up attack from the half back line. Paton also now very comfortable and accomplished at the level.saynta wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 1:24pmyes.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Thu 02 Jul 2020 11:17pm Was that his best game for the club?

Howard has fitted in seamlessly and Carslile is coming back into decent form, Wilkie is Mr reliable plting tall or small and just makes good decisions, very much like an underrated version of Tom Stewart at Geelong.
Two decent KPPs who can spoil or mark, Howard has great closing speed, really good midsize in defenders and smalls has the back half shaping nicely.
Hard for Webster, Robbo, Savage, Austin, Brown all to break in now, perhaps Webster might be one who would seek opportunity elsewhere if he can't break in as he can play at the level and is still young enough.
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
Or ... how about he's playing in a team that is hell-bent on moving forward rather than Cho's sideways, hoist it high to outnumbered forwards gameplan rubbish? When you've got multiple targets coming at you and moving towards goals - you have extra targets to choose from. I'd have hated to play as a half back under Cho - everything was just so slow and static. Also, having the Cho era p!ss poor midfield with no pressure meant every defender had to defend 1 on 1 - that's not Coffield's strength.Moods wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 1:21pmNot true. I don't think he can or will ever be left out. Paton is another hard worker, disciplined, highly skilled & under rated by many due to his draft number.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
Your last sentence is very true as he develops a physique but his mind believes he can defend 1 on 1. Give him the strength and he'll look for 1 on 1 & by that time it could very well be through the midfield.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 2:16pmOr ... how about he's playing in a team that is hell-bent on moving forward rather than Cho's sideways, hoist it high to outnumbered forwards gameplan rubbish? Surprise packet to whom? You? Certainly not the saints who drafted him or those supporters who saw ability in him last year.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
Was a good game from him.
I hope he has arrived. That game will help build his confidence and show that he belongs.
I want him to replicate that sort of game when the chips are down. Then we can say he has arrived with more certainty.

Re: The Coff has arrived!
I have put on here before, go back to the 20 First Quarter minutes v Fremantle last year before he did his shoulder and his season
Picked up a lazy 8 disposals (one a bit ambitious down the line and out on the full) to be easily BOG until injured
Fyffe was eventually BOG in a game we won (and Sandilands was outstanding)

Re: The Coff has arrived!
Very true TtT. From last year I also remember a clown stating he "s***s himself". Still the single most disgraceful comment I've heard from a person claiming to be a coach & an oracle of all things football about a player in their 2nd year.To the top wrote: ↑Fri 03 Jul 2020 8:41pm I have put on here before, go back to the 20 First Quarter minutes v Fremantle last year before he did his shoulder and his season

Had some reasonable opinions but never acknowledged another's, even when called out.
