Q2 10:11

Post: # 1849974Post ace »

2nd quarter 10:11 remaining
Hill defensive side of the centre circle.
St Kilda gets possession on outer wing.

Hill takes off

10:01 marks in the goal square no-one near him.

9:59 GOAL

That's why we got him.
80+ metres in 10 sec in footy boots in the midst of a footy match.

Aussie rules is all about other skills. If it occurs once a match, so be it, but I don’t think people go to the footy to see a player do what Hill did. Yes, they need to be fit and fast but...

Do we want running athletes and guys doing what they do in the NRL or do we want aussie rules footy players?

I get more excited when Hill actually pinpoints a pass to one of our forwards

Give me Trevor Barker or Stewie Loewe style high marking...

Or Full Forwards and Full Backs jostling for a contested mark

Or Malcolm Blight or Bernie Quinlan kicking torps for goal from 65m out

Or Gilbert McAdam or Nicky Winmar at full speed hunting a loose ball and tapping it around until the footy bounces up and they twist and turn and balk their opponents and then kick a stab pass on the chest to their team mates

Converting another players kick towards the scoring zone into a goal instead of a behind or out of bounds does have its value especially for St Kilda.

Excellent goal. He is very important to the way they play.

Hills value will increase when we get back to longer quarters.

His ability to blow up his opponents and gut run in the junk time of quarters is phenomenal.

Often found 30m in space and running to overlap to set up or kick goals.

And wouldn't have blown a candle out after kicking the goal.

Great runner is Brad Hill, his brother could also play a bit in his prime.
Skills and pace.

Excellent example of why the Saints went chasing him. Scollop doesn't seem to rate him though I doubt anybody at the Club is losing sleep over that.

I didn’t say I don’t rate him. He’s a gun and the Saints didn’t just target him because of his ability to run.

I agree with what you're saying Scollop, I have long lamented that the current state of the game is a far cry from the days when FFs kicked 100+ goals in a season, but in the context of today's scrambled play Brad Hill's reading of the game and sprint to the goal square was absolutely brilliant.

Let's hope that Ratten's style of pressure and attacking footy helps the Saints to set the standard for the competition and win many more games.

Still amazed people are potting Hill for not attacking the ball hard enough.

He's the type of player that you certainly don't want to be banging up around the packs. Jets have a different purpose, and it's no good if he gets banged up
