Billy Schmidt vs Carlton 1913
Rob Elliott vs North 1978 (paid as a goal anyway!)
Barry Hall vs Hawthorn 2001

st craig would be correct as he was the first to completely answer it but anyone who was 1st to name one of the following can answer as well:

billy schmidt was the first ever player to actually score a goal after the siren

In 1991, the Saints had slipped from 2nd after round 16 to 8th going into round 21 against Carlton and badly needed some inspiration.

It's history that Plugger kicked 13 on the alledged full back of the century and we flogged 'em but what were the simple but obviously effective words on the banner that day?

Well done on the goals after the siren Q st_craig,

I'm guessing but for the banner:

PER CENT AGE

No idea really...but it's nice to flog the rabble.

1991 was the year that Lockett had the crook back and missed the first 6 games. He then kicked 12, 10 and 12 in his next 3 games and had 50 goals up after R12. He needed 16 goals for 100 when we met caarlton on that day.

Could the banner have read something like "Go Plugger"?

It is interesting to note the results for the remainder of the H&A season:

R22 we beat adelaide by 51 pts
R23 we smashed brisbane by 20 goals exactly!!
R24 we beat sydney by 39 pts

It would be nice to do that again this year!!

My major memory of that Brisbane Game is that Plugger didn't play and Frankie Coghlan kicked about 8.

st_craig,

I think you're right about Plugger not playing v bears.
Stewie Loewe kicked 7.2 in that game (his first big haul I think).

Do we need a hint on the banner?

It is two very short words that are part of very well known brand slogan.

Must have been in the dim dark recesses somewhere...

Here's a tougher one?

What feats did Chris Stone (late 1970's) and Stewie Loewe each perform to set them apart as footballers with a special ability.

Is it something to do with being able to hold 2 dozen eggs in their hand/s?

Both kicked a goal with their first kick in league footy.
(As did Rod Owen, Tony Lockett and Peter Everitt)

No saint66au, their performances that set them apart from other mere mortals are football related.

No snoopygirl, they may be able to hold that many eggs but see above.

A hint:

Other recent Saints to have performed at a similar (but lower level) were:

Plugger Lockett, Spider Everitt and Rod Owen.

B W and R all over - close enough. Well done - thought that might be a tough one.

Stone and Stewie actually kicked goals with their first TWO kicks in VFL / AFL. The others only made the one goal.

See here for the AFL's list:
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=aflrec ... leid=89915

Earlier Saints also achieved this feat (single goal)

Over to you.

Carrying on with my area of expertise - early 1990s...

Trevor Barker retired in 1989 and Steve Newport wore no. 1 in 1991.

Another Saints player was credited with no. 1 in 1990, but never wore it in a game. He did later play with St Kilda wearing a different number. Who was it?

Not Shannas. As far as I know he always had no. 31

All right - I'm thinking hard now.

What about Gilbert McAdam?
I think he might be a possibility.

Yep, Gilbert McAdam.
Drafted in 1989, didn't move over until 1991 when he wore the no. 5.

You forget what a good player he was too.
