Mental health issues are a massive problem in today's society, especially when it is openly commented upon adversely on social media.

We should all butt out and leave the individual in peace to deal with his recovery. All the more so when no-one is in possession of the full facts in this case....and it is none of our business!
No one is rubbing his nose in anything and only sympathy and affection for Jack has been expressed in this thread.

I agree that there has been plenty of support expressed in this thread roskilde, but refer to comments such as "at least he wasn't in drag" and equating his latest downfall justifying the low pick received by St Kilda, which are hardly complimentary.

Got you. Just to clarify my original comment it wasn't a pop at Jack who I think was an amazing St. Kilda player I just wish at times the club would be more businesslike and ruthless. Nothing but affection for the man and wasn't trying to rub his nose in anything.

A very sad set of circumstances at every level

The old story is that when the going gets tough the tough get going

What we do know is:-

Steven requested a trade to be close to his family, the extended Steven Family from Lorne

Steven has access, and you could suggest limited access to his young daughter, the daughter living with her Mother in Melbourne (you could suggest there is no overnight access given what is in the public domain)

Steven’s ability to sustain a Family Court application seeking increased (or any apart from supervised) access would now be severely compromised

Apart from any other repercussions

Steven is going to require all the support which can be put around him

As do his daughter and her Mother

The real sufferer in this is the child

Whilst we should be respectful he is a public figure and a former club champion, plus he was evasive with the police.

It warrants discussion

Gee, now I wish I hadn't commented at all really. Don't you? Sanctimony or comedy? I guess it's all in the delivery.

I don't wish Jack any harm. I hope he fades from the public eye calmly and quietly, so he can deal with his issues safely and with consideration of his loved ones.

Hearing about it makes me feel uncomfortable for no apparent reason other than football. I should reassess my values I guess.

Mental health = false attribution error.

Every problem is categorised as a a mental health issue.

This is just bad science (agenda or corporate-based science).

Suicide rates over the last 100 years or so haven't really changed that much.

More like an addiction issue.

I bet there's a pharmaceutical cure for it.

I wish I could paste a simple x and y axis here.

x axis is the state of your life, as you honestly perceive it, bad to good.

y axis is about your state of mind, and the number of 'labels' you could ascribe to this state.

Now, how many of these 'labels', (mood swings, anxiety, flusteredness, implusivity, sparking, attention issues..etc.) can be attributable to a 'disorder' .

It's a buyers market. Disorders are waiting for you, and so are the docs, the chemist and the psycho-pharma industry, worth 70 billion US in 2010 alone.

But who am I to say? Couldn't figure out how to draw a graph. If you want to add a table here, yo click on 'Create Tables' which send you to 'User Guide' ,

Said user guide is 25,628 words. I checked on 'web Word Page Counter" https://wordcounter.net/website-word-count

I don't have a mental illness, and I am sure I have many.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

How do you know it was her not drug dealer (or someone else) related?? Really horrible if it was his ex, especially for their child.

AFL integrity unit looking into it also. I assume he will have to be stood down or similar now.

Maybe the lousy trade pick we got for him was fair value considering it appears he’s still messed up.

Really sad situation for such a great player.

Career over it seems.

These are the types of posts I would show any player from any team when considering what the best options are for their career / life.

Don’t spend a single second considering ‘supporters’.

Because even if you’ve given 10 years, 4 best and fairests - if you were to get stabbed in the chest (even without knowing the details) they only care about the draft pick you got traded for the year before.

Sad and disgusting.

For me its about how he treated his family, the club, his teammates and ultimately the ones who help keep him in a job....the supporters.

Riewoldt & the Saints can try to hide the facts like so many times, players were there when Stuv was getting high. They knew he was shagging a staff members wife, they knew he was getting blatantly black out drunk....everyone inside knows.

His wife loved Melbourne but after years of her husband f@cking everything that moves and coming home drunk, she left for home to get support. Then Stuv cracked the sads....everyone feel sorry for the asshole who treated his family and ultimately his club like garbage.

So, yeah, he was a best and fairest but the last 18 months he made a monster s*** storm that had been brewing for a decade with his behaviour.

Im not judging him because he needs help, Im judging him because he ruined his career at St Kilda and forced a lousy situation on the Saints player management. What a swell human.

It may have been said earlier on this or another thread, but extending his middle digit to the camera on Brownlow night in a very immature act speaks volumes for his character and lack of leadership.

As for his failure to shed any light on the circumstances surrounding his stabbing, regardless of who he is protecting, this is another immature act from a man-child who needs to grow up fast for the sake of himself and his loved ones.

Sounds like plausible inside knowledge, remember some supposed ITK"S scoffing at any suggestion of Steven being captain material.Wish him and family all the best but can't help feeling his problems are self created.

Great player but flawed personality.

I'm still very bitter about the way he "left" our club.
And would have been really pissed off if he starred at Pussy Park, particularly given the peanuts they paid for him.

Maybe this is the karma bus.

Thanks for having the courage to post this. Last year when he was suffering from 'mental health issues' and some of us suggested that much of it was of his own making by the way he was living his life, plenty on here expressed disgust. I expect a few to jump on again and do the same which is there prerogative.

Must say I agree 100% but also really hope Stuv doesn’t become a Victorian Ben Cousins.

Not sure how Stuv will handle not having a footy career though.

The story is circulating among the inner sanctum at Geelong who do not expect to see him on the park at this juncture

It won’t take long before the story is public knowledge

Don't know why I'm posting to be honest, cause I don't really give a s***.

But...those of you that 'support' someone off the field simply because they played footy for your club - are THE reason this sort of s*** happens.

The God complex that supporters thrust onto young kids out of school, is grossly unhealthy.

If you're a deadshit, you're a deadshit. Playing 300 games of footy doesn't change that, and doesn't excuse you from deadshit behaviour.

Those of you that do excuse these guys, coaches, players both - are the problem.

You're like drug dealers to these losers.

I don't know s*** about Jack Steven. And I actually don't care.
If he didn't something s***, he's a prick. If he didn't he's not.

Whether he won 4 B&Fs is completely irrelevant though.

I've seen Saints players over the years doing the shittest stuff at clubs and bars over the years.

Genuinely s*** behaviour.

But the linament sniffers that hang off them facilitate it. They excuse it. They laugh and idolise them.

They (and of course I'm generalising here) get so used to having their behaviour not only excused - but lauded, that they literally lose track of what is right amd what is wrong.

Just cause some loser gets their thrills watching them play footy on the weekend.

I've never really understood two things:

Why people let these guys get away with bad s***.

And , why these same people are shocked when these blokes are the papers getting busted doing bad s***!
