I know a lot of people said stick to him.
But who actually did it.
Was this family violence ?
Or was it public violence ?
Or was it self inflicted ?

Did someone at Geelong say lets cut him, he is too expensive even with St Kilda paying most of his salary ?

Clearly has serious issues and wish him well for the future.
At his age it is apparent he is seriously stretching the limit of club acceptance.

I think the Saints did very well to move him on and clear ourselves of the majority of his contract.
Had he stayed we would have likely got far less out of him in 2020/21 than we did in 2019.

I would be concerned for the guys well being and long term future, rather than his immediate playing capacity.

So much for Moorabbin being too far from Lorne!

If Geelong delist him are we still obligated to keep paying him?

In Melbourne, during Covid restrictions, i thought he left to live closer to home, over 100 klms from Melbourne. Poor fella. Seems to get himself into positions not conducive to a professional football career. At least he wasn't in drag.

A Lorne man is only allowed in the City of Stonnington in an emergency.
Everyone is limited in what they can in their own locality.
Only allowed to travel further if you have a valid emergency.

Is he not talking to the cops because he"s protecting the other person, or did he start it?
I had a massive man crush on him when he was our boy, I hope he gets help

This is shocking, sad news for a champion of our club and his family.

It doesn’t matter to me that he had moved on - surely we can give the trade/contract value talk a rest until we know more about his wellbeing?

Maybe the lousy trade pick we got for him was fair value considering it appears he’s still messed up.

Really sad situation for such a great player.

Career over it seems.

These are the types of posts I would show any player from any team when considering what the best options are for their career / life.

Don’t spend a single second considering ‘supporters’.

Because even if you’ve given 10 years, 4 best and fairests - if you were to get stabbed in the chest (even without knowing the details) they only care about the draft pick you got traded for the year before.

Sad and disgusting.

I love Jack Steven and I'll always have nothing but fond memories of his time at the club but like with many things our club does this entire affair leaves a bad taste in the mouth and makes one feel like we're being played for fools.
Going to feel great when we lose Battle or some other young because of the salary cap pressure brought on by having to pay much of his next 2 years income!
Would you guys prefer he was still on our list. I prefer to look at it as a sound move to move him on.
NO! I would have preferred that we said "OK Jack, so your mental health is being impacted by being made to play where you would rather not, how about we tear up the existing contract and free up your choices as to where you play in future?"
Or he could just stay on the list and get his full pay without playing/performing well again similar to 2019?

Oh, that’s right - contracts go both ways.

In the Age article I read it said:

"Police confirmed in a statement that "Stonnington Crime Investigation Unit detectives were investigating after a 30-year-old Lorne man presented at a Melbourne hospital overnight with a non-life-threatening injury.

That's a long way from the hometown he left us to play for.

Must have been essential travel.

From 11.59 pm Tuesday one could leave one's own dwelling for recreation, and furthermore there are no limits on how far you can drive as long as you do not stay overnight.

We all know that Jack had issues.

Facing those issues in a time of enforced social distancing has been hard on many. For people with issues it would so much harder again.

At the risk of again being labelled "sanctimonious" when I suggested a few weeks ago that a former player coach with mental health issues should not be ridiculed, I again implore everyone to desist from rubbing Jack Steven's nose further into the dirt while he is down.

Mental health issues are a massive problem in today's society, especially when it is openly commented upon adversely on social media.

We should all butt out and leave the individual in peace to deal with his recovery. All the more so when no-one is in possession of the full facts in this case....and it is none of our business!
