Not wanting to sound disingenuous here but I think coffee or caffeine tablets have been the subject of testing in the past - was it drinking a lot of coffee, or taking caffeine tablets before sporting events?Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 12:01pmLast time I checked coffee, tea and chocolate weren't illegal or on the AFL banned game day list.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 11:28amGrog, coffee and smokes are all drugs too - and tea and chocolate contain low levels of a drug.
Nor could you be arrested for selling them or making them at home.
Smokes are in a different category.
And you're right about smokes being in a different category - certainly not performance enhancing though.

Any drug that creates tax is legal.
Drugs that can't be taxed are only illegal if you get caught taking them.

I think you are referring to the pentathlete (Alex?) who was taking caffeine tablets but said his high caffeine levels were from drinking coffee. Caffeine is no longer banned as a stimulant, maybe after the 1988 Olympics?samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 1:33pmNot wanting to sound disingenuous here but I think coffee or caffeine tablets have been the subject of testing in the past - was it drinking a lot of coffee, or taking caffeine tablets before sporting events?Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 12:01pmLast time I checked coffee, tea and chocolate weren't illegal or on the AFL banned game day list.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 11:28amGrog, coffee and smokes are all drugs too - and tea and chocolate contain low levels of a drug.

I remember watching Saints players in the GT era chewing caffeine tablets at 3/4 time in matches.

The mere mention of that Duthie womans name really steams me up.
The so called "StKilda Schoolgirl" scandal was outrageously unfair.
Just because someone is suffering today doesn't excuse their disgraceful past behaviour.
This woman's deceitful behaviour fanned by the obsession of the morally bankrupt Carro TOTALLY unfairly portrayed our club in a bad light for months and months during a year when we could have and arguably should have won a premiership.
And quite likely in the absence of that media intrusion constantly hanging over our heads we WOULD HAVE won that premiership.
(Roo has written about the impact this had on the team psyche).
All because of how that lying piece of garbage manipulated our players and the media.

I tend to consider the media (not just Caro but all of the outlets that ran us into the ground including the Scum and news/radio outlets) as the most culpable in that sorry saga.
When the basis of your profession is to seek out and report the truth... with all the money, resources and man power available for these outlets... an emotionally unstable teenager/young adult shouldn’t be able to categorically out play you on every level over a period of a year or so.
But they let it all happen. Not excusing KD at all but she did what messed up ppl do at times and it shouldn’t have been able to go on the way it did
It’s why I laugh when ppl here carry on about garbage rags like the Herald Sun like they’re factual and for clever ppl.
They’re not journalism and they have little regard for truth, research, depth etc. Just sensationalised BS to take ur money and drive specific agendas

Then when the truth came out . That this woman had issues and it was all BS .The media never apologized to the club or the players affected. The fact that it still gets reported as the st kilda school girl scandal galls me .

There are 7.5 Billion people on Earth.
Every day terrible things happen to good, honest, generous people which is totally out of their control. My heart goes out to them.
When bad things happen to sh*tty people, I’m sorry but I don’t have too much sympathy.

Agree with the sentiment of this above - the drugs that are taxed - smokes and booze do far more damage than the 'illegal' un taxed drugsGhost Like wrote: ↑Sat 11 Apr 2020 12:32amOr manufacturing / cultivating, dealing or holding them.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 1:51pm Any drug that creates tax is legal.

i dont feel the urge to engage in a 'citizens arrest' type mentality - I think the government have got a lot of this wrong - MDMA for example is said to do incredible things for PTSD - so if someone uses that are they a complete write off to society ? What about the lives destroyed by alcoholism ? both for the alcoholic and their families and friends ?
Why do so many people want to just fall in line with what we are told by the government ? With this COVID issue why were beauty saloons forcefully closed and hairdressers allowed to operate ? Why do politicians think its ok for people to join dole queues yet they wont take a pay cut ?
Gilbert is a young guy engaging in young guy activity ( recreational drugs) - i dont agree with anyone writing him off for that

What sports ban caffeine and what levels do you need to reach before action is taken?
I have a family member who drinks coffee while at training camps at the AIS and has been drug tested whilst there.
I also know athletes who chew caffeine tablets during competition for a kick.

I must admit I'm torn in relation to this response. Firstly I believe the Government is just as, if not more, addicted to tobacco & alcohol. Those people who enjoy a smoke or a drink are certainly paying overs and those high taxes they pay should well and truly cover a lot of the health costs.saint6709 wrote: ↑Sat 11 Apr 2020 8:09pmAgree with the sentiment of this above - the drugs that are taxed - smokes and booze do far more damage than the 'illegal' un taxed drugsGhost Like wrote: ↑Sat 11 Apr 2020 12:32amOr manufacturing / cultivating, dealing or holding them.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Fri 10 Apr 2020 1:51pm Any drug that creates tax is legal.

In terms of illegal, so called "receeational", drugs I believe they offer far more pain within society without contributing a cent to that pain. If you've ever had to deal with someone in the grip of drugs like "ice", heroin, GHB, long term abuse of cannabis you will know the told and untold pain.
MDMA in a controlled environment may relieve / enhance certain conditions but sadly those peddling it and those using it are not doing so for any altruistic reasons.
Government decisions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic are simply to draw a line, which they have to. You do not have to be any great orator to pick holes in what's allowed and what isn't but they, we need that line drawn.
I have no issues with them getting their full pay during this crisis, I'd have an issue if they received a pay rise. I do have issues with their super access & ease of the % that gets passed when they do increase their salaries but that's for another debate.
I do not vilify Gilbo for his drug use but I do feel sorry for him and hope his friends and family rally around him. I hope he accepts that and doesn't abuse that care.

It IS however still being monitored
Mainly due to the mix of stimulants found in powders and drinks, as it is assumed some supplements are trying to hide other banned substances
From a medical point of view caffeine has a law of diminishing returns as continuous over use shows limited "peaks" mostly a troughs
