Re: I want my money back

Post: # 1842479Post Life Long Saint »

Whilst I am not going to call the club and express my view on a refund of my membership, I do expect the club to keep me informed as to what is happening with respect to them.
There are some on here that pay the membership as a donation whilst others use it as a means to get cheaper entry in to the games.
I'm somewhere in the middle.
I buy a membership, seat, and social club. The last one is a donation as I hardly get to the social club bar and we haven't looked like playing in a Grand Final, so my guarantee of a seat for that is pointless.
This year, I also bought a beyond the boundary experience scheduled for Round 2 (The Danny Frawley Tribute Game) v West Coast. That was around the $400 mark.
I emailed the club about that. Not about a refund, just about their plans for it.
To their credit the club called me and said they'd be honouring it later in the season...I guess the six month outlook from the PM has quashed that. But the club said that if it couldn't be rescheduled then I'd be refunded my money.

I'd expect some kind of communication from the club to its members regarding refunds/compensation.
I'm interested to hear from AFL members as their membership fees are not a dontation at all.

Haven’t read the whole thread so not sure if it has been mentioned but people who want a refund as they are not getting a service could then spend the refund on St Kilda goods/merchandise.

I bought my membership as usual through an automatic renewal.
But I never use it to watch a game.
Much prefer to use my MCC membership and pay to get a level 2 seat on the wing.
So my membership has always been a donation.
I don't want my donation back.

Question is, who will we have to merge with next season??

Will there be enough TV rights money next year for a full 18 team comp?

Will Foxtel still exist in 2021 given no content this year??

Just curious, how many supporters still want thier money back? Serious question as I know people's views, opinions and attitudes are evolving quicker than the virus itself.

I am damn well sure that I don't want my money to have to go to the players because they can't even take a 80% pay cut for 2 months whilst 80% of the clubs rank and file workers have no job and no income stream. I want that money to go to them.

And to the players.... when you negotiate a contract agreement linked to revenue stream you can't just select if an when it is suitable.

I have lost a lot of respect for the players at the moment. Very disappointing.

Unless you are in dire straits I think it very poor to ask for a refund when the future of the club is at risk.
Paying next years membership in advance is an option I will suggest to the club.

And can I ask, which camp are you in, the 'shut everything down' camp, or 'it's an overreaction' camp.

The politics of this crisis seems to be falling into those categories and there certainly has been evidence of that on here and other forums and so I'm wondering in which category people sit that hold views on the players and their salaries.

I don't want a refund as I'm lucky enough to be at the stage in my life where I can afford it. There are many not so fortunate and are doing it very hard with job losses etc. Can't say I blame them for requesting a refund.

Time to Reset the AFL
Let’s use this opportunity to reset the AFL. This is a game of football many young men would love to play so there is no shortage of willing participants. Sack everyone and reemploy them on wages the competition can afford. But while we are doing that reset the financial model so that all teams receive equal revenue. This would allow ALL clubs to survive. The current model gives greater opportunity to the stronger clubs thus requiring equalisation payment to the struggling clubs. If all matches pooled revenues then after costs the money was split evenly between all 18 clubs with possibly a percentage going to the AFL for other contingencies.
All rivalry rounds need to be abolished as every game in the competition is a rivalry. Using 5 and 6 day breaks would facilitate a 34 round competition easily. Anzac Day should not be exclusive to a few clubs,ALL clubs were involved in the war. If we want to take the AFL seriously as a true sporting competition (which I don’t at the moment) between 18 rival clubs we should use this opportunity to reset everything because,if not, we will continue on in a carnival atmosphere.

Where does it stop though, isn't it fast becoming a global conundrum, and I'm not just talking about AFL memberships, there are so many products and services globally that are paid for, however can't be delivered.

Is it a case of when the economy gets going again, can we expect to receive delivery.

First of all, don't want my money back. Secondly, to a virus, all we are is food and by isolating and keeping our distance we are denying the virus from feeding. As bad as the flu, the flu has a death rate of about0.1% per thousand of population, this has a death rate of 1 to 2.5% so it is at least 10 times deadlier than the flu.
It is also a virus our species has never encountered before because it made zoonotic step from bat, probably to pangolin to us and is a warning that we are encroaching to much onto other species territories and coming in too close proximity with animals that carry viruses we have never encountered.
The next time this happens, we could have a virus as contagious as tis one, and it is more contagious the flu, combined with the lethality of something like Ebola. If that happens, we can expect a death toll unseen by our species since the Black Death of the 1,400's.
On that note, I wish everyone good health and hope this virus doesn't touch you. Stay healthy and hopefully we may have some games to go to in a few months.

I want my club to survive. If anything, we should be donating money to the club to keep it afloat. Don't ask for refunds; we need to support the St Kilda FC through this crisis.

I don’t particularly want my money back but it would great to see the club come out of this with something of a professional aura about it.

Don’t particularly like the idea that those that paid would get nothing out of a membership. I say that not because I want something myself but the reality is that the St.Kilda FC is a business not a charity.

Whilst many on here look at their yearly membership as a donation of sorts to the club... it’s a horrible business approach/strategy for the club to adopt.
One that will ultimately see them fail.

Need to find a way to garner some positive out of this even if it’s a minor one

The MCC said they will be looking into some sort of compensation for MCC members.

Can the world force a cultural change on some Chinese that insist on eating animals no human should?

I doubt it. They will continue and more animal Bourne viruses will appear.

Bit one thing the world could’ve done is spent more money on developing vaccines for these types of Coronaviruses and not just hoped they wouldn’t happen again.

SARS was way deadlier than COVID-19 but wasn’t as contagious so we got sucked into a false sense of security

MCC are a bit different because match day AFL revenue is remitted back to the AFL - so if the reserve has 20,000 in attendance- the AFL get back $600,000ish from the club. So the MCC expenses are down with no games on.

MCC food and beverage revenue though is zero plus there are no functions either.

I’m expecting we will get back somewhere between 30 and 50% of our subs (assuming we can’t attend any games this season)
