St Kilda vs North Melbourne
Whatever the cirucmstances, the Saints' season kicks off on Sunday.
The media are suggesting Max King is certain to make his debut, while Dylan Roberton is good to go.
We're lucky enough to have a full list to pick from, so there'll be some difficult calls at the selection table today.
My side would be...
B : Wilike - Howard - Roberton
HB : Clark - Carlisle - Long
C : Billings - Dunstan - Hill
HF : Lonie - Membrey - Hannebery
F : King - Marshall - Butler
R : Ryder - Steele - Gresham
I : Jones - Geary - Ross - Battle
E : Coffield - Paton - Hind - Sinclair
And just a little interesting stat...
The last three times we have played North Melbourne in Round 1, we have led at ¾ time only to lose.
2003 we led by a point at ¾ time, only to lose by 26 points. We would go on to finish 11th, below North Melbourne.
1996 we led by a point at ¾ time, only to lose by 24 points. We would go on to finish 10th, below North Melbourne.
1983 we led by 18 points at ¾ time, only to lose by 13 points. We would go on to finish 12th, below North Melbourne.

Were we leading in at 3/4 time in 2005?

Re: St Kilda vs North Melbourne
Not in round 1, though...So doesn't fit the criteria.
I remember that match. Milne marked around 30m out and went to play on. North tackled, took the ball down the other end where Grant goaled for a 2 goal swing.
If Milne had gone back and taken a set shot, the margin would have gone out to be over three goals.

Yep. Remember that as well. I could swear that was in Round 1.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Thu 19 Mar 2020 1:48pmNot in round 1, though...So doesn't fit the criteria.

Cannot fit Geary in. He's replaced by Webster, unless JWeb is still a bit sore.
Sinclair emergency.
Include maybe Parker. Sincs isn't consistent enough, goes missing a lot

Re: St Kilda vs North Melbourne
Sincs is plenty consistent in a team that's playing even half ok. Remember two years ago it was him that was our Elite ranked player? (on a wing). Most smaller mids have suffered playing for us under ChoWellardSaint wrote: ↑Thu 19 Mar 2020 4:24pm Cannot fit Geary in. He's replaced by Webster, unless JWeb is still a bit sore.

Re: St Kilda vs North Melbourne
Simple. He's largely been replaced by the new mids. But to say he's been inconsistent - is to not look at the full picture. Since the day Lenny retired - we've had comfortably the worst starting midfield in the modern era of the AFL. Barely a B grader in there; let alone an A grader to help bring the young guys along. It's been Jack Steven or bust - and we know he's not a natural leader. You could argue that for his comparative talent - Billings has been just as if not more inconsistent.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Thu 19 Mar 2020 4:40pmHow do you explain his pre season from?Saintmatt wrote: ↑Thu 19 Mar 2020 4:34pmSincs is plenty consistent in a team that's playing even half ok. But they've all operated under the sh!tshow of an on-field program that Cho was in charge of. I'd like to see what Sincs can do in a team with a better midfield around him. If he's still inconsistent then - so be it. Until then ...

With The Virus we've all lost track of the immense challenge facing the selectors. Its going to be interesting to see. We won't get the final 22 until tomorrow.

Re: St Kilda vs North Melbourne
Since 1974 St Kilda have won less than one third of our matches against North Melbourne.
In 1974 we enjoyed a 53 - 29 winning record against the 'Roos.
In 2019 it slumped to 78-80 with 2 draws.
If Ziebell, Polec, Cunnington, Goldstein, Larkey, Tarrant and Brown all play Sunday, and we beat North on Sunday, it will be a miracle.

Of the 14 tipsters in the Age only 4 tipped Nth, and two of them don't count. Wayne Carey and Emma Kearney the Roos AFLW captain.

Yep. Max is playing. Nice little video showing how our coach handled it and he handled it well. Worth a look.Beno88 wrote: ↑Thu 19 Mar 2020 12:32pm Whatever the cirucmstances, the Saints' season kicks off on Sunday.
