If games are being played without crowds ...
Then why can't all of St kilda's scheduled home games be played at Moorabbin.
It has the facilities to cater for teams only. It has lights to play at night. The financial impact would be less than playing at the docklands.
I really cannot see any reason why it can't be done.

Great call - but it will not happen as there will be a certain amount that we have to pay to Marvel whether or not the crowd is there.Groovy Guru wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 9:33am Then why can't all of St kilda's scheduled home games be played at Moorabbin.

It's up to the AFL where the games are played...Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 9:53amGreat call - but it will not happen as there will be a certain amount that we have to pay to Marvel whether or not the crowd is there.Groovy Guru wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 9:33am Then why can't all of St kilda's scheduled home games be played at Moorabbin.

Given that crowds aren't a factor and the AFL owns Marvel, I think you'll see more games at Marvel that might have otherwise been played at the MCG.
Suburban grounds might be a consideration...

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
Additionally - there will just be a couple of cameras at Moorabbin as opposed to the fixed ones at Marvel. And St Kilda would want to charge the AFL for playing at Linton St - so I am guessing the AFL would prefer to pay themselves.

Can’t fit as much advertising around the ground for the cameras.

Surely the technology is there to superimpose crowds in the stands when broadcasting!

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
FWIW it's worth - this is not about where the games are played (apart from Adelaide, Port, Freo and WCE as they have fixed contracts to play all their home games at AAMI and Optus respectively - hence, we play Port in China as a St K home game) - this is solely about playing the games where the electronic boundary and grandstand / scoreboard signage is.
The only game day revenue stream the clubs are going to get for the foreseeable is from signage advertising. As much as the idea of Moorabbin, Aden St, Vic Park etc are nice romantic ideas ... it's not going to happen. The reason that Carlton's ground is being considered as a venue is that its the most central of non-MSG/Marvel venues, and has grandstands - rather than grass hills. Unlike Moorabbin's; it's lights are also better. They're currently working on a plan to install temporary electric signage there.

You can super impose advertising on the ground or in the empty stands...Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 12:15pm FWIW it's worth - this is not about where the games are played (apart from Adelaide, Port, Freo and WCE as they have fixed contracts to play all their home games at AAMI and Optus respectively - hence, we play Port in China as a St K home game) - this is solely about playing the games where the electronic boundary and grandstand / scoreboard signage is.

NRL coverage already does this.
Same tech that has the WR line and lane markings in swimming. Fox Footy already use it for scores and various stats during the game.

I'm not sure where these venues are?Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 12:15pm FWIW it's worth - this is not about where the games are played (apart from Adelaide, Port, Freo and WCE as they have fixed contracts to play all their home games at AAMI and Optus respectively - hence, we play Port in China as a St K home game) - this is solely about playing the games where the electronic boundary and grandstand / scoreboard signage is.

It is a low-salt venue.Jacks Back wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 9:52pmI'm not sure where these venues are?Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 12:15pm FWIW it's worth - this is not about where the games are played (apart from Adelaide, Port, Freo and WCE as they have fixed contracts to play all their home games at AAMI and Optus respectively - hence, we play Port in China as a St K home game) - this is solely about playing the games where the electronic boundary and grandstand / scoreboard signage is.

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
That's true. But it's bloody difficult to do that when you have no stands there to project ads on to. Boundary signage - yes - but eg at the established large AFL grounds - there's 2 or 3 levels of perimeter signage above the boundary that won't be able to be monetised.Life Long Saint wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 2:01pmYou can super impose advertising on the ground or in the empty stands...Saintmatt wrote: ↑Tue 17 Mar 2020 12:15pm FWIW it's worth - this is not about where the games are played (apart from Adelaide, Port, Freo and WCE as they have fixed contracts to play all their home games at AAMI and Optus respectively - hence, we play Port in China as a St K home game) - this is solely about playing the games where the electronic boundary and grandstand / scoreboard signage is.

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
There may be only 4-5 days between games and so less load on the players I believe.

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
They are going to be only playing 17 games anyway - also if it means they have to cram games in because the season gets put on hold at some stage then the players will have a natural break before starting back - so then kick in 16 mins per quarter when they start to cramJacks Back wrote: ↑Wed 18 Mar 2020 9:42pmThere may be only 4-5 days between games and so less load on the players I believe.

Re: If games are being played without crowds ...
I heard they're considering 5 minute quarters and teams can punch on, MMA rules, no referee interference, unless someone starts talking politics.
