I feel for Battle. Very good 2019, but this preseason seems to have been cast aside with no games in the positions he is best suited for.

Now yes preseasons are to try things out, but at present he is being left put in the cold.

My guess is he will still be predominantly in the backline while the midfield experiment is on. Maybe the interceptor and/or zone breaker accross half back that has licence to attack through the midfield.

This will especially happen if either Howard or Robbo or both can't secure best 22 spots.

I can't see Battle having a full time role in the forward line if King becomes Roo Mk2.

I agree with this.
Though only pre-season you can see that the coaches are looking to settle players into their real season roles.

It appears Carslile & Howard take the two key backs and either Wilkie or Robbo or both play.
Where does that leave Battle, you can't play Howard, Carslile, Wilkie, Robbo & Battle in the same backline.
I'd even suggest Howard, Carslile, Wilkie & Robbo is almost too tall if you want some run and carry.

With the Ryder/Marshall combo of ruck/forward and Membrey and King there are no tall spots up forward either.

I don't buy the wing/midfield thing for Battle as he has great running power & endurance but is not an agile good mover laterally.

I see him as a lead up forward or third tall defender.

Agree all can't play in the same side. Carlisle, Wilkie and Battle are looking like certain starters in the backline with Battle being given licence to attack through the midfiled but he will be a feature in the backline.

Howard and Robbo need to push those three out of the side.

Battle wont ever be a permanent feature in the forward line hence why the midfield training is being given. Agree he isn't agile enough to be a true midfielder, but he certainly can be that straight line interceptor in the middle and attack towards goal to assist with scoring potential by being a kick away from the play to help get over a zone.

With a nearly fully fit squad we do seem to have the opposite problem from last year with Carlisle, clavarino Robertson and Austin fit. The emergence of Battle and Wilkie. The form of Brown and the option of Joyce or Marsh and the recruiting of Howard we don’t lack options for KPD’s that can’t all play in the backline and would need a horrendous run of injuries to get a go.

They look like trying to convert or revert (Battle) them to forwards to cover our rather thin KPF stocks. Players like Marsh and Joyce being tried forward so far.
