Oh dear.

Does it really take 'analytical tools' to work out that Ross is a liability by foot, so every chance he gets he should be giving it to a team mate that can hit targets?

We've been saying the exact thing on here for years.

Hardly took the stat to realise that Richo wasn’t a very good coach...
People caught onto that early 2018 when his numbers were pbly higher

Anyway the positive is Seb is attempting to turn his short kick into a significant strength.

It's not going to be a significant strength.

His strengths are that he wins the ball, and can break lines.

Kicking short is never a strength. It's merely a way to facilitate his other strengths, rather than mitigating them by turning the ball over.

His kicking is a weakness. Kicking short is a way to hide it.

It's Sunday morning and I'm peacefully enjoying a flat white over the water, and not looking for drunken debate from the outer. However later today it will be beer on the beach so maybe come back then as I could be in a punchier mood.

Kicking short didn’t seem to hold back players like Robert Harvey, Greg Williams, Sam Mitchell.....

You could argue that it absolutely did hold them back.

Harvey was a far better player when instructed to kick long in 97, than he was prior.

But that's besides the point. I'm not saying that kicking short will make Ross a worse player - as I've said all along - playing to his stengths will make him better.

But to suggest that kicking short will be a weapon, is just silly.

You neeed to learn to read things a lot more carefully. You consistently misinterpret and run off half cocked. I would have thought you would have learnt from the embarrassment from the Google discussuon. Read first. Pause. Reflect. Then if you've comprehended interject your considered thoughts.

I'm off to chat with the adults.

Disappointing that you guys need to result to insults because Barry is out arguing you on every level.

Not surprising but disappointing

As for the argument regarding Robert Harvey and Sam Mitchell...
I think if you asked 100 people to list the quality that made them champions, think you’ll find a few other things will come up before short kicking
Ball winning ability
Work rate
Endurance
Decision making
Leadership

Oh and they were good short kicks too... though Harvey in particular certainly was no slouch kicking long

Ross by his own admission has admitted his long kicking has been poor, so he is going to focus more on higher percentage shorter kicks.

The knock on him by many on here has been that he just bangs the ball on the boot long to no advantage, which is reflected exactly in what he himself has said.

What are people arguing about?

Whether not doing that will make disposal be his strength vs mitigating a weakness

I'm in furious agreement. It's great he's working to improve and use his strength being the short kick to the teams advantage.

I would have thought that by saying he was going make his short kicks a significant strength, that they would be considered a weapon?

"At the start of 1997 before each game skills coach Peter Banfield would write on Harvey's hand "kick long". He tried to eradicate the 20-metre toe-poke to a teammate which may have originated when passing to Tony Lockett in his younger days."

Great point, well argued.
I understand your input one point but disagree.

You refer to 3 brownlow medalists, 250 - 380 game players and absolute champions of the game as an example, much like the analogy that X player is slow by foot but it didn't stop Greg Williams or X is overweight but hey there's Tony Lockett.

Ross is a good AFL player but he isn't of a standard that allows him to carry the bag to the ground for the three players you refer. The reason your 3 examples were able to play to their advantage was they were elite, Williams and Mitchell as good on their non preferred as any player I have seen.

Ross needs to play to his strength which is the short play to advantage and work on his longer kicking which it seems by his own admission he wants to improve.

As per management 101 focus on and exploit what you do exceptionally well and work on a weakness.

Go back and read it again one more time. You're almost there. Maybe a little more pause and reflect. But let me give you a leg up. The operative word in the sentence is, 'attempting'.
