nothing to do with masculinity - perhaps a few emasculated individuals tho?

Good post.IluvHarvey wrote: ↑Sun 09 Feb 2020 4:19pmOf course there is an agenda, and it’s a bloody good one. It’s one where my 3 year old daughter will have the same opportunities as my son in being able to look up to Saints players of her own gender inspirationally. I see nothing but good coming out of this.chook23 wrote: ↑Sat 08 Feb 2020 11:09pmNot a sad sack but the aflw is just rubbish........an agenda being pushed that is just so ordinary to watch
To those who complain about the standard, clearly it’s not great but it is getting better. Look at some of the younger girls who have come through the under 18 comp that are playing now. They are fantastic.
I would love to know what the quality of Men’s football was like in the late 1800’s when it started and there were only a handful of people playing. I bet it was crap!
AFLW standards will continue to get better every year!

Thanks to those who gave a bit of commentary on this thread re the likes of Patrikios etc! Overseas and wish I coulda been there.
Notice that we lost by the exact same margin that the men lost by in their first game! That was in 1897 - lost to collingwood 2.4. (16) to 5.11. (41). Our girls today against the bulldogs 2.2. (14) to 6.3. (39).
Let's hope we don't also copy them by waiting 67 years for our first SS flag! Nah, couldn't happen. Could it? Uh-oh.
Oh but what the hey! GO SAINTS!

Re: This Sunday
I think the comp is fantastic for the girls and I love the opportunity they have been provided the female footballers.
I think the athletes are great and know a couple of the Saints girls families and have 3 GWS girls working for me in Sydney.
I'm a saint fan so I hope the saints girls do well and will follow the scores.
I only have one negative comment and that is at this point in time I find the AFWL very hard to watch.
I agree with above that the skills are improving and it will only get better but right now its a battle to sit through a match for me.
Perhaps we need Gena Davis & Madonna to take up the sport and Tom Hanks to coach?

Re: This Sunday
Was good to see the ground packed today but there was allota things they could do better .
Ohs spoils the party
8000 lockout
There was room for more . I watched from various positions around the ground , no where was jam packed. Maybe if they positioned all the amenities better there would have been more space .
Saw quite a few people jumping over the fence behind where the portaloos were situated. Ha ha so much for all the security people.
Game would have been better if there was less wind
The ground without the old stands and terraces which had billboard signs had become a wind tunnel .
Most games I've seen there last season ( vfl / wvfl )
have been boring to watch due to the wind .
Hopefully when the stand is built the ground might be shielded a but more .
The worst thing of course was effing losing
They tried hard but were hopelessly ineffective in the forward line .
Still there's always next week

Re: This Sunday
I watched a bit of it on the telly and thought the boundary throw-ins were laughable. On the wing - yeah, sure boundary umpire come in 20 metres and then throws it in but when it was in the pocket, 5 metres from the goals the boundary umpire comes in and throws it 40 metres away from our goals. How does that help scoring???
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Not many goals.
But some great behinds.

Re: This Sunday
What a sexist remark (and tired cliche) I'm so threatened by a competition that has free admission and struggles to kick two goals in an entire game.

I get people not being into AFLW - but I can't comprehend people being 'against' it.
Just seems torally weird to me.

Yep, exactly.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Mon 10 Feb 2020 11:00am I get people not being into AFLW - but I can't comprehend people being 'against' it.

It’s obvious to most that the AFL is trying to fast track AFLW, giving it exposure now is just investing in the future so that in 5-10 years time the game and skills will be exponentially better. Girls would have grown up nearly their whole life watching women playing football. Participation levels will be way up. Only good can come of it.
But for some reason this “agenda” is too much for some.

Not a fan to be honest think it has its place but it's a long way from being watchable. Becoming a easy option for females to get into top level sport.

Re: This Sunday
Accept it or not, while women's football goes againts a traditional view on sport in Australia, the AFL has profited greatly through a public pass time that only really appeals to about 20% of the population. While that 20% is dedicated in its following it is the success of the 5 top teams that drives its financial success and everyone else is just loyal, following an average team, living in hope and the 5 least successful teams supporters, follow a bunch of losers. Sadly, we are the perennial losers, so I find the comments on interest in the women's sport very strange coming from loyal Saints.
