Re: The two St kilda teams
So the first time is the team picked by the author for Round 1 and the second team is constructed from the rest of the playing list.
It is an interesting exercise.
My take:
- the second team has more talent (IMO) than we have had at The Saints for a very long time.
- we have many choices for the back line.
- we have sufficient choices for the mid-filed.
- the forward line is thin.

Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

I detest that McKenzoe is clogging our list still. We have done such a good clean out it staggers me he’s still there.
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.

Re: The two St kilda teams
I put together this Sandy team to review the competition for positions, and I’m interested in your opinion on the following questions:
1. Is this a much stronger side & will Sandy play finals? SANDY signings: https://www.sandringhamfc.com.au/latest-news
2. Which of the highlighted fringe players do you think will play the most AFL games in 2020?
3. The first VFL game is on the 5 April as a Marvel curtain raiser for the Round 3 Saints/Richmond game.
Will this make it harder for fringe players to break in before round 4 onwards?
B: Ben Patton, Nathan Brown, DAN FRAMPTON
HB: Nick Coffield, Logan Austin, Dan McKenzie
C: Ed Phillips, BREDE SECCULL, Doulton Langlands
HF: Dean Kent, Darragh Joyce, Matt Parker
F: Nick Hind, Max King, ANTHONY SEATON
R: Ryan Abbott, LUKE DALMAU, Jack Bytel
INT: Jon Marsh, Jack Mayo, Oscar Clavarino, Ryan Byrnes, Leo Connolly, Jack Bell, Sam Alabakis
NICK HOGAN, JACK McHALE, GOY LOCK, MICHAEL MANTEIT, BRAYDAN O’TOOLE, JACK TONER,
CHRIS HORTON-MILNE, WILL MITCHELL, RILEY THOMPSON RILEY VIRTUE
Possible: Butler/ Lonie, Savage/Webster/Roberton/Wilkie, Sinclair/Dunstan
Whilst the makeup will depend on AFL selection, injury & form, it does indicate that our first year players may struggle to get meaningful game time.

If we don't have hope. All is lost.

Re: The two St kilda teams
Not a bad effort to my mind
However I have a more recent view that Austin will replace Wilkie in the back 6
Past that the 2 “small forwards” in Kent and Lonie would be under pressure - with hopefully Bytel bringing pressure
Some water to go under the bridge in pre season but something like
Austin Howard Roberton
Coffield Carlisle Long
Battle Steele Hill
Billings Marshall Jones
Membrey King Gresham
Ryder Clark Hannebery
Then, maybe
Dunstan Bytel Ross Butler as interchange

Re: The two St kilda teams
B: Geary - Howard - Savage
HB: Clark - Carslile - (Roberton/Wilkie)
C: Hill - Ross - Jones
HF: Billings - Battle - Gresham
F: Membrey - King - Lonie
R: Marshall - Steele - Hannebery
I: Long - Butler - Ryder - Coffield
I really don't want Ryder selected but he didn't get recruited to play magoos.
IMO people not selecting Geary are kidding themselves and I also don't understand how Marshall would not start in the ruck a position he dominated last season.
Austin will be lucky to play a game IMO as he doesn't seem to have a position as a KPP or a medium defender and is likely to be gone seasons end.
Can't see Kent featuring unless there are injuries as he's very one dimensional and Lonie, Long, Butler, Parker, Hind offer more flexibility and Billings and Gresham more class.
I think its either Roberton or Wilkie as they play similar roles and the structure probably doesn't fit both.
Not sure why there is no love for Savage on this forum, he's durable, kicks it well, decent pace and wins the footy. He has to be pushed out IMO as he's earned his place.
I've gone with all 5 recruits just through pre-season noise in the media, Coffield because I want him to improve & Hannebery & Roberton in hope both will be fit.

Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.

Re: The two St kilda teams
You must be related to Austin, you don't make too many posts that miss the opportunity to mention his name but if he can replace Wilkie then we will be flying. To the top wrote: ↑Sun 02 Feb 2020 5:46pm Not a bad effort to my mind

Putting Ross on the interchange is hilarious.
Roberton won't play in the first month minimum.
And we know how you feel about Gears but you better brace yourself because he will mostly likely be Captain but it won't surprise many if Seb get's the nod. If Seb misses, it will be just and he will be a lock for Captain in 2020.

Re: The two St kilda teams
Agree with a lot, although I think Roberton's plan doesn't see him play in the first month. Not much has been made of this but Robbo's health risks and duty of care issues are more serious than Paddy's and so I can't see him being rushed in until he's played some VFL games.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Mon 03 Feb 2020 9:51am B: Geary - Howard - Savage

And I differ on Ryder. Think he's an automatic selection if his form is selectable.
