With due respect all articles are positive at this time of year, but reading that anyone thinking Howard (barring injury) is not a walk up start round one will be mistaken in my opinion.
Cornes loves potting the Power but let's hope he's right on this one.
The Power are not flush with big key defenders so to banish Howard to the reserves fro the last 4 weeks of the season and let him go relatively cheaply remains a mystery to me.
Proudly assuming the title of forum Oracle and serving as the inaugural Saintsational ‘weak as piss brigade’ President.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
The odds are very high that not all 5 of our traded recruits will become best 22 players.
As a side note I've wondered why Howard was selected as captain for one game ahead of so many other seemingly obvious and/or appropriate choices.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
I'm excited we got Howard too but he wasn't exactly a steal. We gave Port a more than handy first round pick.
Personally, I am more excited about Logan Austin finally playing for us. Ironically also from Port....

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
I couldn't agree more with the title of this thread and he's following in the footsteps of another great CHB from South Australia who wore number 20 for the Saints during the early 80s: Daryl Cowie!
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

Mnn but it might be a good thing. Smells of something sour? Player -coach? Discipline? Or he didn't fit into their plans so why not blood and trial his replacements in the last four rounds.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Fri 17 Jan 2020 11:48amsaynta wrote: ↑Fri 17 Jan 2020 10:51am Worth the read

If he needs a point to prove, he has got one, and I think it is just like Cornes to wanna rub Ports nose in it.
Exciting stuff...tempered by the need for pre-season hyperbole coolant.
I hope he plays in more successful teams than that Cowie guy from the 80s. Geez, he wouldn't have sing the song much. (Did they sing early to mid 80s? No!)
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

The pre season hyperbole will build from here. I suspect there will be predictions of finals from many and I hope that is the goal being set by BR. He doesn't have the luxury of a honeymoon period so jumping out of the blocks well from round 1 is going to be vital. Miss the finals in 2020 and the pressure will significantly intensify on BR going into 2021.

I suspect Ratts gets 2020, missing finals in 2021 would cause massive concern for him & the Club.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Sat 18 Jan 2020 5:38pmSomething doesn't add up.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sat 18 Jan 2020 4:42pmMnn but it might be a good thing. Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
I suspect and hope missing finals in 2020 will be a concern for BR. This list doesn't have the luxury of waisting too many more seasons. If this list doesn't prove it is premiership capable in the next 2 years then I fear it will be complete rebuild time again. I think it's capable but what happens in the first half of 2020 will be revealing.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
While finals in 2020 would rate highly in Rattens plans, I doubt there is much emphasis on it at this stage in terms of matchday strategies.
I'm a firm believer that our skill levels in 16, 17 and 19 cost us finals births. It's bleeding obvious that Rattens ability to rectify this is the key. Fix that problem and finals will happen.
I think our list is the best it's looked since 2016, in that time, Collingwood, Brisbane and Richmond have shown significant improvement, while Hawthorn, Sydney and Adelaide have fallen away.
Finals this year for us is not a certainty but for mine the indicators are strongly in favour of improvement over the last 4 years.

1. That's the opposite of the way that K Cornes treats Port. He's a flat out apologist for most of the happenings at Port Adelaide (so is Dwayne Russell too). It's Adelaide he pots whenever he gets the chance (or even just for shizzles)
2. What's even more bizarre about the Howard situation is that he actually Captained Port in an AFL game last year - in his 37th game - at age 23. Those attributes do not grown on trees - nor can they be trained (for how many seasons were we all hoping Jack Steven would step up on that front?!?). So - Port obviously thought highly enough of him to stand in as Captain and yet, by end of season ... he's out of not only the team but the entire club? That's why the Port fans are still going bananas over there about it.

Re: Howard the steal of the trade period
OR, did they disrespect the postion enough to give the kid a game as captain as some sought of carrot. ÀND did that rock the boat and put moses out of joint to the point the kid felt uncomfortable enough to want to leave. Something not adding up.

Not liking how easily Carlisle gets King out of the contest. Max has a lot to learn. On the other hand great defending by Carlisle.

St Kilda outbid Port Adelaide
Offered more money and a longer Contract - at just the right time to get the result
As with Austin, those at Alberton are not happy
