Geary at the cricket
He spoke to one of the blonde commentators for about a minute.
"New faces, new coach, a great place to be...had 3 weeks off, with family, before getting back into it"
Didn't recognize him with a very thick beard, much thicker than normal, almost looked like a fake one

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: Geary at the cricket
I don’t know about Brazilians
But Geary is sporting one hell of a scar on his thigh. The guy has literally bled for the club, which is why he is such a respected leader.
What’s more inspirational
Watching a team mate take a mark or kick a goal
Or
A guy who puts his body on the line time and again?
It’s why Rooeys mark in 2004 defines him, and why acts of bravery inspire more than acts of skill.

I've seen it close up and it hurts just to look at it. The man is courage personified and arguably equal to or greater than Roo's in terms of courage on a footy field.

The surgery and scar wasn’t a choice he made... how would any other AFL player have done it any different?B.M wrote: ↑Fri 27 Dec 2019 10:51pm I don’t know about Brazilians

Re: Geary at the cricket
Many AFL players wouldn’t have attacked the contest as he did, it was crazy but typical attack at the contest.

Re: Geary at the cricket
It was an innocuous incident from a contest you see dozens of times every game.
Then he came back too early, was slow(er) and underdone causing him to reinjure himself, and the team having to play one man down.
Most players are extremely courageous on the field, having a few outliers who are more than others (ie, Selwood) is just media beat up because it sounds good. The outliers would be the ones who aren’t courageous.
Give me a leader who can put his team on his back when needed and drag them over the line to victory.

Re: Geary at the cricket
Gary Ablett Senior could do that, was he a leader?
Robert Harvey, Tony Lockett, Dusty, Buddy Franklin?
Leaders??
Then you have
Maxwell, Davis, Hurn, Ling, Harley, Jack, Easton Wood?
Could they carry a team on their back?
They led their teams in Grand Finals.
Inspiration comes in many forms
I consider bravery the upmost form of inspiration.
You can undersell that act from Geary as much as you like to suit your agenda. I’ll just call as I see it, and the way the club and players saw it... a goal saving act where he was always going to get crunched and it was going to hurt!
He then played out the game with as bad a cork as you can get.
He did come back early, as you’d expect from Gears, but it was a totally unrelated injury.
Ideally you’d like a Roo level type of player as skipper, but give me a leader over a star as captain anyday!!
BTW
Did you rate the late great skipper Danny Frawley as a captain?

Geary is not in our best 22. If Ratten picks him in round 1 then Ratten should be sacked on the spot.

Our team has gone past Geary. He should only play when there are injuries. That's if we want to improve.

Gone past Geary
FFS!
Who is better
Coffield - not even sure he’s up to it, definitely not a lock down BP
Paton - Seriously?
McKenzie - Really?
Long - Hasn’t even play back?!
Webster - fully fit could play BP but not as reliable
Clark - is a running back
Savage - is a running back
Maybe Leo Connolly has gone ahead of Geary???

Great to see him. Was looking quite sharp in his dress shirt as well. Great captain.
This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

Re: Geary at the cricket
There are a couple of over the top nuffies on here who don't rate Geary in our best 22.
Yep Geary has average foot skills and I believe the opposition were more than happy for Geary to rack up possies off half back as he's not a line breaker or overly creative.
But I'll bet the premier small forwards of the comp over the last 5-6 years would much prefer to play on Savage, Coffield, Paton et al than Geary and there is no person in the competition who goes any harder in a straight line than the saints skipper.
Nexus blue bottle is just yanking the chain, not sure why anyone bites, but there seems to be a base that think Geary is not on our best 22. If he is not I guess those supporters only value the pretty things in the games and don't enjoy the players who are blue collar and happy to get down and dirty at the coal face.

Re: Geary at the cricket
No Saynta, not another crap post. 2020 will probably be Geary's last season. We have to get games into our youngsters. There is no point playing Geary unless injuries intervene. If you can't see that then that is your problem.saynta wrote: ↑Mon 30 Dec 2019 10:10amAnother crap post.Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Sun 29 Dec 2019 6:32pm Geary is not in our best 22. Re: Geary at the cricket
We’ll have a little bet
Barring injury
Geary will play R1
I win... you are not allowed to post anything until he is dropped.
If he is dropped to Sandy, I’ll take a holiday
Agree it may be Geary’s last season though, but young upstarts need to prove themselves to get a game ahead of a genuine leader.

I think you are the one with the problem.
