Open Training Saturday 14th December
Some observations from today's open training session at Moorabbin.
Around 25 to 30 players engaged in full training. Of the others present, Geary/Roberton/Webster were only kicking the ball to each other, Hanneberry/Joyce/Alabakis were running laps and Hill appeared later on.
Did not see Carlisle/Jones/King/Billings/Ryder/Brown/Bytel/Parker/McKenzie/Wilkie/Mayo.
Plenty of energy and the guys seemed to enjoy the drills. Thought overall they looked lighter than during the season.
Marshall looking in great shape, very active and effective in the ruck, across the ground and up forward.
Hunter Clarke glides across the ground and we may see him step up a level next year.
Of the young recruits, thought Byrnes missed a few of his targets with his handballs, and Bell is in serious need of at least 15 to 20 extra kilos. I thought Connolly looks like he knows where to be, gets the ball, moves well and executes delivery well.
Of the older recruits, Howard and Butler were the only ones in full training and they looked OK.
After the guys had been on the park for about and hour or so they were joined by our new women's players and they did some training together.

Re: Open Training Saturday 14th December
Today wasn’t a typical training day. They had a long and intensive session on Thursday and most of the players who were inside today trained on Thursday, including King. King is almost in full training. I must admit from what I have seen of him so far I have been disappointed. Beaten one on one, fumbled marks and not clean by hand.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
