Ah good luck to him.
He would be sucking up the clubs arse as much as he could to make sure he gets a spot in their side.
Handy and durable player at times but that's just it.

Pretty average player that just epitomised the Richo era. Depth player at best that just fell out of games, you’d often forget he was even playing.

“But I guess when you hear things might be going that way (in the trade period) and you finish the year forward as a defensive forward … I had a meeting with the club towards the end of the year and there were probably things mentioned in that meeting where I thought, ‘Well, it’s not for me here’.

Sounds like it had more to do with the club than the supporter base

Is he suggesting the leadership at the Saints wasn't that strong?

I don't think players worry too much about what the fans think.
Maybe they hate reporters bagging them, but fans- nope

He'll be lucky to get picked as an emergency.
Will be a decent player for the Northern Blues, and that's it

So social media doesn't cause them to have mental health issues?

Not what the players are saying.

Yeah - I took it as a dig against the leadership - especially the part about some blokes turning up out of shape. But - dear Jack - you have to own that too given you were part of the leadership group for a period. As for the defensive forward part - he played his best game for the year against the Dogs shutting down JJ the week after Cho was sacked.

My feel from the outside/in was the Cho didn't have any credibility or runs on the board to enforce standards himself and the likes of Roo, Joey etc from the old guard thought he wasn't up to it and the likes of Ross, Geary aren't that good enough players themselves to bring others along for the ride.

Like a lot of things over the past 6 years - it's just been a swathe of vanilla and boring and guys like Newnes become part of the furniture - never succeeding much to be noticed or equally, failing enough to be dropped. That he played 123 consecutive games in a such a poor era says everything.

We badly need to idiot proof this website.

I believe Newnes read Lethlean's tea leaves and realized he had no future with the Saints. Good luck to him.

I think a 150-game player who gave us honest service deserves a bit better than some of the trash metered out to him. He wasn't a great player, he wasn't a bad player. He did his best.

He lost his way a bit in his final few years, but there's no heard feelings from me and I wish him all the best with his new ventures. Welcome back at the club any time.

I think you are being extremely generous with the "honest service" description. I'm not sorry we got rid of him especially when we have Brad Hill as a replacement.

The type of player you have when you don't want to be a part of September action.
Good enough to fill in a place on the team sheet but little else.

Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

We expect them to all stars, heroes, and if they are just 'there' then they are like a statue that we take frustrations upon, and boy there have been a few these past couple of years.

Been on the forum a year or two, Weller Newnes and Richo easily the most targeted. All gone.

One day someone will make a movie or book called, Fringe Player. Maybe, it might be interesting.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

At least we can bag vanilla Richo now. We can only hope Ratts delivers and delivers quickly.
