MUST be operating with ONE goal, winning a flag!
To do that we need to win games!!
Any other irrelevant priority or deviation from a single minded focus is not only a waste of time, it’s a distraction.

Win a premiership or two, all of a sudden fighting for survival is not an issue!

If it isn’t helping us in our pursuit to win a flag. What is the point!!!
Perhaps you should investigate the investment of personnel, time and money we actually put into the NGA. Probably much less than our trips to the Tiwi Islands, which is an extension of the same initiative. Do you understand how these academies work?

Was worth?

He hasn’t played a game yet??

I think the club has even suggested it paid overs for Hill, but are OK with it.

The trips to the Tiwi islands are about growth and development of listed players. No issue there, if they think it helps, fine.

At a successful organisation

Every decision undertaken must be able to answer the following question

How does it help us achieve the goal (in our case a premiership)

If there is no direct link, it wastes resources.

In business you do not overpay, and if an investment is not working out you cut your losses.

The Saints have a tiny draft zone and are thus unlikely to gain the benefit that many clubs can extract from it.

With Biggy the sentiment seems to be great athlete, but his football nous and ability to read the play were lacking.
What a laugh. Have you seen how much we paid Hill in terms of money and more to the point in terms of Draft picks plus Acres on top?
Hill was worth every cent we paid for him. Rinse and repeat.

Collingwood, North and Freo all were able to jump the queue for some top end talent in the last two drafts.

Why the big wraps on biggy? Those in the know didn't think he was worth the pick and that was post 50. Yes he is a good athlete but is he a good AFL player, probably not based on the draft.

We have others coming thru the academy and we will get a gem sooner or later

I think the Tiwi Islands now belong to Gold Coast zone.
Visit up there just a means of breaking up the monotony of training.

No that is not how it works.
After 15 years the AFL will abandon it just before St kilda is due to get the recruit of the century.
The premiers Collingwood who will have traded in the No1 draft pick the year before will say it is unfair that we get the best player when they have pick No1.
The AFL will abandon the Next Academy system to hold us back.

Did you:

1/ notice how week this year's draft was outside the first several (which we did not have access to)
2/ understand that Acres would not be in our first 22 next year and so his value to us was low?

Out of interest why have you trolled so often over so many years? Is your life really that sad that it is your only joy?

I'm not trolling pal. It is fact we gave way overs for Hill just in picks let alone adding Acres as well.
And how do you know this years draft is weak? Nobody will know how good or weak this draft was for at least 5 years. Unless you have a crystal ball?
You have been called out for a dumb post.

LOL. Caught by your own expressed logic! You stated that we paid overs for Hill, but without your crystal ball by what you have stated you will have to wait 5 to know.

But here you are now on your normal grinch like path happy to knock the Saints in thread after thread every chance you get.

Are you for real? We gave 2 high picks plus downgraded our third and fourth picks for next year plus Acres. You do not need a crystal ball to know we paid way overs!!!!

Have to disagree entirely here sRs, I have been in business over 25 years and have regularly paid overs up front for staff, acquisitions etc. Why do PE companies pay high multiples? Over pay now for the blue sky option and yes be prepared to cut your loses. Never go back to the table, accept your loss.

Just reading this on FB.
Manchester United is about to play their 4000th game in a row with a player from their academy in their team. That stretches back to 1937.

Now, I know it is a different game and different ways to get players onto a list (drafting etc) but this is why a NGA is wanted/needed. The academy is the backbone of the biggest football team in the world. Half of the team from the Ferguson era were from the academy.

Just because the first potential player out Academy produced wasn’t drafted by us, does not mean we should stop. It is an investment. Give it time.

You miss the point entirely. It is not overpaying if you can profit from the deal. We have not overpaid for Hill, as he makes our other assets better. That is goof business for mine.
