Jack Bytel
The confidence in Jack Bytel is building internally to the extent he is pushing for Round 1. That is straight from the mouth of Ratten at this weeks “ Saints in Law” function.
You keep hearing it from various people this boy is a beauty- hunts the ball, tough, smart and skilled. We need a win in midfield reports are we have found a beauty and look out Dunstan in particular but all midfielders trying to keep their place.
Whilst all the talk is on Max King understandably the talk on just doesn’t stop.
King and Bytel are exciting Saints fans no end bring on 2020.

Hope he keeps going with a big pre season. Would love to get 20 AFL games into him as quickly as possible. Ditto Max King.

He finds it he kills it.
He aint no vegan.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Jack Bytel
I played in an under 10 team which had 18 players hunting the ball..
In Fairness one of them went on to play over 200 AFL games, A Premiership and a B&F.
"It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress."

Re: Jack Bytel
Correct me if I'm wrong ...
"Hunts the ball" to me refers to someone who pursues the ball hard, and with intent - even if they sometimes don't end up with it - i.e., it's the opposite of someone who hangs back and just waits for the easy pickings, an easy handball receive.
Hunter Clark is aptly named.

I suggest that it is literally ignorant football vernacular.
It makes no sense.

Re: Jack Bytel
Interestingly, the name Hunter is a boy's name of English origin meaning "one who hunts".

Re: Jack Bytel
So he searches determinedly for the ball?
Given everyone on the field knows exactly where the ball is at every moment of the entire game - why is this of any relevance?

So even though he's wasting his time searching for something when we all already know exactly where it is - he's doing it with determination?CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Thu 12 Dec 2019 8:44pmdetermined- to settle or decide (a dispute, question, etc.) by an authoritative or conclusive decisionBarryGrogan wrote: ↑Thu 12 Dec 2019 7:50pmSo he searches determinedly for the ball?

That's good.
Hopefully he actually catches it one day, instead of hunting it the whole time.

Re: Jack Bytel
You could say that, Bytel is determined in his pursuit of the ball, above the quest of his opponents, and through an authoritive and resolute display of skill, aggression and power, he acquires possesion and accumulates disposals in an enviable manner or you could say, he hunts the ball.

Better than "hunts the ball". FFS.

I hope Jack Bytel becomes known as playing like Jack Bytel because that is what good players do.
Back to Geary. He played 44 matches in his first 3 years - 2008, 2009 and 2010 when we were at our peak.
You may not have rated him until he was 25 but clearly the club did.

I have no problem with trolls. They are misguided and naive and don't bother me but I'm not sure your a troll as much as you are a loyalist.Shaggy wrote: ↑Thu 12 Dec 2019 9:38pmI am trolling since you appear to dislike Geary.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Thu 12 Dec 2019 9:17pmDoes he? I'm also not sure why you think I don't like Geary. Only met him a few times and he seemed a decent bloke but I don't know him.
Do I think he should be captain? I'm not sure there are many other options. I'd prefer Membrey this year but wouldn't be upset if Geary gets it.
Do I think he is courageous? Absolutely.
Do I think he has been a great lock down defender? Probably in the best 5 Ive seen in 43 years of watching the Saints but in his era 'lock down' means can't do much else.
In 188 games I think about 40 of them have been 'great'.
I think Jarryn has gotten the best he could out of his career. I hope he makes 200 games.
In 43 years there have been big ups and downs for the club and Ive been lucky to see 64 players play 100 or more games for the Saints. I rate Jarryn as the 60th.
He has been very consistent and a source of inspiration for 6 years but he has benefited hugely in his 11 year career from a period where we saw some of the club's greatest ever players leave or retire.
If that offends you then I'm sorry. If he makes the Hall of Fame I will be very surprised.

Re: Jack Bytel
Like to know what Jarryns winning % is as a player?
Was Trevor Barker no good because his whole career was played when we were absolutely useless?
I absolutely rate Geary, outstanding back pocket!

Barker. Hmm. I'm.not going to lower myself.
His win percentage is 49. Jack Newnes is 33. Jack Steven is 38. So what? Let's talk best and fairests and brownlow votes.
Future AFL Hall of Fame. It just might take 40 years to realise it. Sorry Jarryn. Couldn't help.myslf.
