Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Strange that he would be training with us pre season and then we didn’t even match a late bid on him?

It's not strange at all.
They've watched him closely and obviously didn't want him.
Either that, or they wanted Monty.

He'll probably be a star at Richmond

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
I think Byrnes was a no brainer.
The bid on Nyuon came after pick 51 didn’t it? We could have use points from our picks in the 60s to get him.
I would have taken a punt on an athletically gifted 196cm with more possible upside than an outside mid who would have been available as a rookie

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Not really.
Evidently the Saints were keen, but only as a rookie. If the Tigers had not bid on him, he quite likely would have been a St Kilda Player.
Of our Academy players he was the one rated by us as the most likely to be taken.
Also by training with us, our recruiters and coaches all had an improved chance to evaluate him.
So why would he not train with us?

I'm disappointed for us but Biggy will love training alongside Mabior Chol and he'll hopefully make it as a player. Good luck young fella

Damn, I was really hoping we’d pick him up. Bloody Richmond cut into our lunch. Bastards!

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
We obviously didn’t think he was worth more than a rookie but posters still don’t understand why we would pass ? List spots and the fact that there are other kids available are some of the (very important) reasons that come to mind...
Weird.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Not a case of did not want - A case of we could not
We were always vulnerable to not being able to match a bid for Biggy after we used our first pick of the night at 52.
Biggy had to survive the next 3 picks and then we could easily match if desired.
But if named at picks 53, 54 or 55 on the night St Kilda could only match by taking points from our first round pick in 2020 and so have it slip back one place.
Richmond clearly rated Biggy and knew they could exploit the Saints vulnerability on the night.

Not upset about missing out on Biggy. Was passed over 50 times so he is not rated highly by anyone. Good luck to him at the tigers

On Fox they showed a graphic that said stated what we needed to give up. It didn't mention anything about next year.ace wrote: ↑Fri 29 Nov 2019 2:22am Not a case of did not want - A case of we could not

It looked to basically be a swap that would push us back about 5 places.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
no dramas. not sure why anyone would care. the club had seen enough of him to not want him at that cost, and given how low that cost was in the grander scheme of things he is obviously viewed as no more than a small prospect.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Looks to me like St Kilda rated the prospects of Jack Bell, who has been selected this morning in the rookie draft, ahead of Bigoa Nyuon, to add to the team's ruck stocks. Only time will tell if this was a good decision, at 18/19 and at the bottom of the draft list it is hard to know which one of the two is more likely to get to play senior football.
Point is that St Kilda have now finally acknowledged the importance of rucks in the chase for a finals berth, and for that we should be very grateful!

??
We've had shitloads of them recently and given up a fair bit to get them. Where's the suggestion that the club didn't think rucks are important?

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Poor decision to pass on Biggy, and one the saints will live to regret.
And he is not just a key back ffs.
From afl.com.au
"Later, it forced the Saints' hand on Nyuon, with the versatile and athletic 195cm prospect also being passed on. He might find his role in the ruck at Punt Road, but can also swing into either line."
"Clarke said Nyuon, nicknamed 'Biggy', could play a variety of positions.
"Biggy's a great athlete. He's a pretty good footballer, but he's a great athlete. He's got really good speed, great vertical (jump), fantastic agility and he's got really good endurance.
"He's a multiple-package, so he's got real potential."

Good. Glad we didn’t get him and hope the Tigers regret their selection. They need a bit of drama to help stop them being so successful

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Watching the footage of the draft team during the bid was very interesting. It looked like a few people were interested, and one or two were gesturing to pass. Not sure if the replay is on Kayo but it's worth a look.

You would think that they would have discussed every scenario with Nyoun and have been on the same page
