Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
The first of our Next Generation Academy prospects to reach draft level.
Sudanese born, 196 cm, 86kg 18/05/2001
"He can play through the ruck and outleap opponents to tap the ball to advantage and he also has good agility, leads up at the ball, has the capability to push forward and hit the scoreboard or play in defence. Biggy has looked most at home in defence where his combination of athleticism which will help him shut down opposition forwards, reading of the drop of the ball and intercept marking suggest he has significant scope to develop." (Chris Doerre 24 Jul, 2019)
Eastern Ranges vs. Sandringham Dragons:
Stats: 14 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles, 2 rebound 50s, 5 inside 50s, 15 hitouts, 1 goal
Our scouts said: “Nyuon had some good moments in the ruck and forward for the Stingrays… He was able to expose his opponent once the ball hit the ground, spreading to space to create an option forward or get in intercepting positions.” – Craig Byrnes
Verdict: The raw and athletic tall continues to show glimpses of his best form, with enough there to suggest he’ll be an easy choice for St Kilda come draft time as a Next Generation Academy (NGA) member. His combination of aerial ability, ground level cleanliness and winding runs make Nyuon an exciting prospect, with his versatility in the key position posts an admirable trait. He loves a goal and celebration too, and seems a much-loved teammate.
20. Bigoa Nyuon (St Kilda Next-Generation Academy)
Best position: Key defence
Height, weight: 196cm, 86kg
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Projected draft range: late-rookie
Plays like: Aliir Aliir
September Rankings: unranked
Rationale: Has been on the edge of the top-20 since June and finally enters the top-20 on the back of others falling and a strong State Combine which included running a remarkable 2.855 second 20m sprint.
Strengths: Intercept marking, reading of the ball in flight, leap, fluid mover, speed, agility, versatility to play key defence, key forward or ruck, shuts down opposition key forwards, leadup marking, power to shrug tackles, clean ground ball winner, spread from contests, blocks for teammates, runs in support, involved in general play, upside, intangibles
Weaknesses: Raw, production
(Big Footy mock draft - Knightmare)
If another team picks him before pick 38 then we are in a spot of bother because our pick 51 will not be good enough to get him. We either let him go or trade for another pick on the night with one of our 2020 picks.
"Pick 38+ has us covered by the 20% discount applied to NGA and F/S nominated draftees.
Anything before that, and I’m sure we can swap 1 of our 2020 4th rounders with one of ports 2019 4th rounders to absorb the difference.
The best case scenario if if a bid doesn’t come until after pick 51, and we can use it on someone else." (diddly)
"No 51 is only enough from about pick 38 on.
If we decide to match we would have to top up the points. The difference would currently come off our 2020 first, unless we trade in." (saintsRrising)
It will be very interesting come Draft night.

I know father/son and Club Academy players receive a points discount for the club in the national draft but does this also apply for Next Generation Academy prospects?

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
While you have attributed that to Knightmare's Mock Draft, it is I believe may be from his early October Power Ranking.
In Knightmares Top 40 Biggy is not there.
21/10/2019 - AFL phantom draft two rounds (post trade period): https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/ ... -new-names
.
In the various Phantom Drafts that I have read by various authors no one has rated Biggy in their Top 40, or 50 or whatever their list size was.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Yes.
20% in the first round, and a flat 197 points after that.
Academy players are all treated the same apart from the GC concession.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
Yes it probably was. I would be very happy for us to get Biggy with our current lot of picks. It would be a natural progression to see him play for Sandringham and then hopefully AFL. That sprint time he did was very quick.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 21 Oct 2019 9:14pm

Yes he should be a good pickup for us.
I am hoping that no one nominates him before our first pick we can use 51 on someone else and take Biggy with a late pick.

I don't like those 20m sprint times because they don't remove the reaction time.Gershwin wrote: ↑Mon 21 Oct 2019 9:41pmYes it probably was. In Olympic events you get disqualified if your reaction time is too short because you guessed the gun firing.
In a game of footy you are not waiting to hear a gun, you watch the game and know when the virtual gun is going to fire.
The time that should be used is from your reaction time to 20m metres not from the gun firing.

Is it a biggy if we don’t get him?

Yep. In the blurb it even says his predicted draft range is “late rookie”.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Mon 21 Oct 2019 9:14pm

I would say pick 51 is safe.

Yes everything seems to point that if he is taken that it is a late pick, or a rookie pick.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Wed 23 Oct 2019 11:47am From all accounts he isn't that good yet so no streets if we get him or not

Biggy was interviewed this morning on SEN.
He spoke really well and impressed with his humbleness.

Re: Bigoa (Biggy) Nyuon
If Biggy survives the main draft and the preseason draft St Kilda can ponce and immediately claim him as a type B rookie ahead of the rookie draft.
As a type B rookie he would not even cost the club a rookie pick 5.

Our PR Team is very active at present. Of late there seems to be a story on the Saints most nights. Most of them , like the Biggy story tonight, clearly generated by the club.
Nice change from the St Kilda Schoolgirl Genre.

Havent heard positive things about him heading into the draft in terms of behaviour and past troubles.
