Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Does anyone know what the status is regarding his recovery. Is he ready to join in full training?

I doubt it. Bulging disks could take years to heal if ever.

A simple "yes" or "no" would be a more helpful response, doctor!Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Sun 10 Nov 2019 5:34pm I doubt it. Bulging disks could take years to heal if ever.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
I am pretty sure that he had a bulging disc. Not a disk.
Word is he was progressing well in his rehab late last year.

Thanks for that. What year do you think he will debut?Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Sun 10 Nov 2019 5:34pm I doubt it. Bulging disks could take years to heal if ever.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

If he never gets on the track it is another example of the lack of expertise of our recruiters, who seem to prefer injured or injury prone prospects

I very much doubt it but I hope your right . The kid can play but with this type of injury it might be better to err on the side of caution & not expect too much too soon .

Just like any part of the body backs including bulging discs heal.
From what I read, it’s a fairly standard procedure.
He has youth on his side which also helps.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Geezus I've have a compressed disc in my back and thought I'd never be able to do half the the things I'm doing now yet I go to the gym and do squats and dead lifts and have no problems.
I'm sure he's getting better medical advice than I've ever gotten.

He's been training as normal with the rest of the 1st to 4th year players.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
It will still be a very difficult task to make the senior side for young Jack. This is great news, and I hope that his future is bright as we really need this young man to become every bit of what his potential is

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Yeah let's write the kid off now after he has done nothing. By nothing I mean rehab with medical professionals for about a year. There is no way that surgery can fix injuries let alone physical therapy as well. Plus he is young and fit, that can't help.
My concern is that he hasn't played for a year so others have gone passed him. Not saying he can't catch up but a year out is a fair while

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Lots of players miss a full year early in their career
Petracca missed his entire first year with a knee, Luke ball didn’t play year 1, Riewoldt barely played.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Jack is going to have to work real hard to push into the side this year, I can't see it happening unless the wheels fall off. If he's lucky he might get a debut but I'm guessing it will be well into the back half of the season.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
I’d be quite happy to see him play consistent footy at Sandy for the first half on the year re-building his base.
No major injuries... then watch him make a push in the second half of the season

If he is as good as has been stated then he should walk into the team. You make him sound very average.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Mon 11 Nov 2019 9:17am Jack is going to have to work real hard to push into the side this year, I can't see it happening unless the wheels fall off. I'd be wrapped if he is the second coming of Chris Judd and Luke Hodge, as we know it does happen. But if by chance social media has got it wrong and he isn't a once-in-a-generation player, and he's able to push into our team this year because the team is performing badly, then my early predictions of us being a finals capable team will have been horribly, horribly wrong.

Bulging disc is a serious injury. Many people suffer with this for the rest of their life. More often than not you never get over this injury but more to the point you can manage the injury and lead a normal life. Leading a normal life and playing AFL are 2 entirely different things though.

Re: Jack Bytel's progress from his back injury
Isn't it the same thing Carlisle had? On a personal note my mother had a bulging disc operated on and I must admit, she never played footy again. Did do all of the housework though so maybe Jack can clean up around RSEA patk if footy doesn't work out.Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Mon 11 Nov 2019 11:45amNot bulls*** at all.Special wrote: ↑Mon 11 Nov 2019 1:54amSpeaking from experience Nexxus or just more made up BS??Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Sun 10 Nov 2019 5:34pm I doubt it.
