So getting in players that can actually play is a massive bonus and Benell can play.
Can play? Could play for sure but he is now broken. Let another team roll the dice on him, plus it's hugely unlikely we are in the running.
Again expect nothing from the draft and you won't be disappointed. Maybe we go looking in state leagues again. Wilkie was the find of the draft, parker may come good, young was a bust and I can't remember the fourth

*** Interesting bunch. All mediocre right now. ALL could be anything though. Wait and see but not looking great is it.
2018 Draft
- Max King
- Jack Bytel
- Matt Parker
- Cam Wilkie
3-4 Stars again. Phenomenal draft.
2019 Draft
- Brad Hill
- Dougal Howard
- Dan Butler
- Zak Jones
- Paddy Ryder
- Harley Bennel
*** ahhh insane. 2-3 stars, 2 very good players and a gun on his last legs to be back up/teach.
best ever
Clark was 2017 draft, so that makes it a better haul. 2016 was still good though with Battle and Marshall.
2018 - we'll see re King & Bytel. Wilkie great, not sure about Parker. Hind OK.
With all due respect, if Coffield is ordinary we do not have a player above that category
He really impressed me when given his opportunity late in the season - and as confirmation watch the first 20 minutes of the Freo game until he did his shoulder
He had racked up a lazy 10 disposals roaming the back half and further afield (one out of bounds on the full so he will be pilloried for that among the usual suspects on here!) and, to me was BOG to that point Fyffe notwithstanding

Remember Lovett!!!!
Remember Jesse Smith and Nathan Freeman!
We don’t have a good track record with broken players.
Nathan Brown has been outstanding.
Plus Jesse Smith was always only a high risk, low cost punt at Pick #60 . Was always more likely play than not play. I don't have a problem with using cheap picks for experimenting with.
Bytel was a cheap pick giving his potential.
Max King is high potential, but also high cost given his injury and so that makes me nervous.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
But I am aware of his long list of issues, aren’t you?
The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour.
From my understanding he has had a couple of incidents very similar to DeGoey that you think we should have taken with pick 1.
Exactly right.
The media are actually correcting people when they question his training attitude. Apparently a phenomenal trainer as you could see by his body shape early days.
But apparently it’s alright to be a full blown meth addict (Cousins) but taking coke in an incident that ends up in the paper is not ok for this poster.

I didn’t think we should have taken DeGoey at 1, I’m on record as strongly suggesting Petracca. The obvious choice.
I wish I had suggested DeGoey as it turns out, he is probably the best of the 2014 crop.
And when did DeGoey
Get kicked off an airplane, have issues with bikie gang members, have MULTIPLE drinking issues
And play 2 games in 3 years due to injury and club sanctions.
Bennell has some real offield problems.
Well you keep banging on that we should have taken others including DeGoey instead of McCartin and given he was number one that means you did. DeGoey has many off field incidents and is very lucky to be still on a list.
Personally I thought Paddy was a mistake but got behind him all the same. I would have gone brashaw or pertraca as you don't gamble with pick one and Paddy was a gamble. Not with the concussions but with diabetes. Plus he has no elite qualities, he was a big kid playing against smaller kids and once he was evenly matched he struggled.
Bennell would most likely be a mistake so let some other team take the risk. It may be a genius move by them but it could also be a bust.
Our squad is all but set now and it will be an huge fluke to get talent after pick 50 let alone play next season.

It irritated me when there was a pattern of behaviour where our club wasted picks year after year on injured or older recycled players.
It didn't matter that they were not high draft picks. We always need to have a focus on youth and finding talent late in the draft. It's simply a skill that must be part of the football department
Otherwise why have a recruiting team? Might as well just save money and just go with known talent and all the top schoolboy talent
It also means that your football club places a high emphasis on development and nurturing and improving your players skills
The main reason we haven't played finals since 2011 is because we were poor in development for our young talent. Neglecting to recruit a new group of 18-20 year olds each year is a mistake that will have consequences

The list is in pretty good shape is it not? Still work to be done and possibly one A grade midfielder short to be a serious top 4 contender as well as some player with potential who are yet to prove themselves like Max King but hypothetically if we have good year next year the bulk of our best 22 will have been recruited and developed by people not at the club anymore. You make it sound like we are in dire straights.
