Pickett and McCartin aside
The rest have been ok... all still on AFL lists and playing senior footy. Brayshaw had multiple concussions, seems over that now and finished third in the Brownlow in 2018.
Degoey and Moore huge gets by Collingwood
Weller, Lever and Heeney (academy) were just outside top ten.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
I, for one, am of the view that Paddy and our footy club made the right call to delist him.
Sadly, it is almost certainly the end of his footy career. With the number of concussions he's suffered and the symptoms he's experiencing, Paddy must now find a life outside football.
There is no way back from this. Even if he recovers, and everybody hopes that he will be able to live a normal life, he's now forever vulnerable to concussion happening again and it will take very, very little for it to happen again.
Of course, if you set aside the emotion and look at all of this objectively, and I recognise everything is in hindsight, the harsh reality is we wasted a number one draft pick.
Our eagerness to recruit a replacement for Roo clouded the club's judgement. Alarm bells should have rung about Paddy, and the medical issues surrounding him, even if the club couldn't have known of his vulnerability to concussion.
As someone else pointed out, the club didn't do enough homework or simply ignored what was in front of them and considered whatever risk associated with Paddy was a risk worth taking.
The people responsible for Paddy's selection are no longer at the footy club. And that is a very good thing.
I don't think the current crop of coaches and administrators would make the same mistake.
I'm just disappointed it ended the way it has. I'm sure Paddy is as well.
I wish him well for the future.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
So St Kilda should have Drafted anyone but McCartin - according to the experts on here
Fair dinkum
And to respond to one such expert on one matter alone, Steven as a 4 time B&F winner at St Kilda and our only line breaking, dynamic mid also capable of kicking goals was a far more important player to St Kilda than was Kelly, a 2 season player at Geelong with the likes of Dangerfield, Selwood et al in support of Kelly
Get it, expert?
My comment on some contributing here, in support of another contributor querying if those commentating had ever seen a game or were just going off nonsense on here, remains and, indeed, is confirmed if any confirmation is needed
No doubt the opinion of McCartin is framed on the excellent pack mark he took in Tasmania against a then rampant Hawthorn then missing his shot on goal when a goal would have won that match for us

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Light at the end of the tunnel for Paddy is being able to navigate a busy supermarket without being dizzy. He is absolutely done as a professional athlete. Incredibly sad story.
At least the obvious number one pick in Petracca hasn't gone on to be a superstar (yet) to rub salt into the wound. He'd be a starting 18 player for us though.

"St Kilda has confirmed former No.1 draft pick Paddy McCartin will step away from the game in 2020 in a bid to tackle serious concussion issues. But his career might not be over.
Jay Clark and Sam Edmund, Herald Sun
St Kilda has confirmed Paddy McCartin will “step off” the club’s playing list for 2020.
As revealed by the Herald Sun yesterday, McCartin will take a 12-month leave of absence in a bid to overcome the concussion issues that threaten his career.
The Saints have released a statement saying McCartin, 23, remains determined to continue his AFL career at the end of next year.
The club said McCartin would continue his rehabilitation at RSEA Park under the guidance of its medical team and specialists.
St Kilda football manager Simon Lethlean said the club would continue to support the key forward.
“We have been working closely with Paddy, his loved ones, his doctors and his management for some time,” Lethlean said.

“We feel it is important for Paddy to focus solely on his physical and mental wellbeing without the pressure of returning to senior football in the 2020 season.
“This decision gives him the best opportunity to ultimately resume his career, with the club open to re-listing Paddy should he be healthy and physically ready to attack a pre-season at the end of 2020, and play senior football in 2021.
“As Paddy explained during the year, this injury has had a significant impact on his life, and general health and well-being.
“It has been a difficult time for him, his family, the people close to him, and for his teammates, coaches and support staff who know how hard he has worked to put himself in a position to succeed at the elite level.”
“He is a really popular member of our playing group and we saw during the 2019 pre-season what sort of footballer he was becoming.
“We also wish to recognise that Paddy has not only considered what is best for himself, but also what is best for the club in coming to this tough decision. This is commendable and we thank him for that.
“The club has also committed to assisting him with activities and pursuits of interest to him both within football and outside of football as part of his focus over the next 12 months.”
McCartin, 23, was delisted by the Saints despite having one year remaining on his contract.
The No.1 draft pick will spend the next 12 months prioritising his health in the hope his harrowing concussion symptoms improve.
He will be paid out his full entitlements for next season.
McCartin has endured a nightmare year dealing with the brutal effects of his repeated head knocks including sleeplessness, dizziness and “really bad” headaches.
“I’m a shell of a person that I was, really. I’m completely different”,” McCartin said on Triple M this year.
“I’ve sort of lost my footy identity a little bit, but then also my identity as a person as well.
“I can’t do stuff — I can’t go to the supermarket when it’s busy or go to a cafe with my girlfriend, or drive my car.”
McCartin did not play a game this season after his latest knock in March in the JLT Series. It was his eighth concussion in five years. He played 35 senior games.
A recent trip to the United States to see a specialist has buoyed McCartin’s slim hopes of making a comeback but only after taking an extended break.
In particular, the 194cm marking target has begun undertaking some eye exercises after the trip to Chicago as part of his treatment plan.
St Kilda will reassess his position throughout next season but is set to unveil a new-look forward line in 2020 after moving on key forward Josh Bruce as part of a busy trade period.
St Kilda revitalised its list adding star wingman Brad Hill, tough midfielder Zak Jones, tall utility Dougal Howard, speedster Dan Butler and veteran ruckman Paddy Ryder this month.
Gun spearhead Max King could help replace Bruce in the senior side from as early as Round 1 next season after a late-season knee injury cruelled his hopes of making his debut last year."

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Paddy has been delisted due to concussion problems, not the first and will certainly not be the last. I'm assuming you are alluding to diabetes when you refer to "medical issues". Is it scientifically proven diabetes makes you vulnerable to concussion? I'll ask it another way, has it been proven Paddy's diabetes caused him to get concussion on a footy field? I'm really interested to know what you know about diabetes and concussion.damienc wrote: ↑Tue 29 Oct 2019 10:49pm I, for one, am of the view that Paddy and our footy club made the right call to delist him.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Moore was still a top ten pick
It was a comment about the strength of the draft, not who we should’ve or could’ve picked
Nice try though

Agree. Mediocre footballer and not the sharpest tool in the shed.
I hope we are considering not paying out his whole 2020 salary as part of this admission - but if not, it should prevent us from paying further damages to Paddy in the future (or insurance).
He’s plain dumb - let’s not use the concussions as an excuse - he would’ve had advice from his manager and family in what he should and shouldn’t talk about.

Actually he took a better mark than that in that game, in my humble opinion. A high ball , a swirling wind, he took up a position and as several players tried to budge him or get their own position , he held his and took it absolutely rock solid. It was one of the more memorable marks I have seen. I think he kicked the goal after that, not sure,
The posts which suggest we shouldn’t have drafted him are disrespectful and juvenile, I think. The young man has been injured , badly and possibly permanently, in the honest service of the club these posters claim to support . He deserves nothing but our support and loyalty , as per the Club motto. Denigrating his selection in the draft (over which he had no control) is diminishing the sacrifice he has made or which has been imposed on him in St Kilda’s service. He ought to be welcomed unreservedly to any future association in any capacity he chooses to have with the Club, without further grizzling about the supposed “ waste “ of a number one draft pick ( and by the way , there really is no cause for pride in having a number 1 draft pick).

That should just about kill any chance he has to sue the club or the AFL for brain damage.
Insurance companies have stored that interview away for future court use.
The AFL will gather whatever evidence they can from the club.

I’m actually really glad he said that. He’s probably bitter & twisted about being delisted. Yes, I feel sorry for him but it’s all St KFC numero uno. Yes, we need to respect and look after past players but if the Paddy saga turns ugly and he tries to take us to court, gloves are off.

No poster here, that I can see, has been disrespectful of Paddy.
On the contrary.
Nor have they based any opinion on an individual effort in any particular game.
Only you.
Not sure where that one came from in your production line of logic.
Everybody is pretty much supportive of Paddy and his current health struggles.
But in my opinion he was damaged goods quite apart from his concussion issues.
I think his number one selection was based on wishful thinking rather than objectivity.
As I said previously, the people responsible for selecting Paddy are no longer at St Kilda. A very good thing.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
What made Paddy a number 1?
Did he dominate and kick regular bags of goals vs his draft-year peers?
DeGoey was the standout - he had size, pace, evasiveness, skills - he ticked all the boxes.
All 4 of them!
I'm surprised we overlooked him.
What boxes did Paddy tick that made him a number 1 - was it his evasiveness, his pace, his size as a key position player? - he certainly didn't kick regular bags of goals.
