Sorry but there would be an absolute small % of 1st to 3rd year players that ever looks AFL fit and ready to run a whole game out.
[/quote
hmmm - pretty certain you have Ben King already in that category
SO in 2021 we will have at least two 1-3yr players in that category. Yes???

It’s my opinion, and if it sounds insulting, too bad. Tom Lynch was a 199cm aerobic beast and looked a prospect very early. Remember how the suns were going in his first few years before you compare how the forwards performed.
Concussions aside, which were purely bad luck. Paddy lacked athleticism, he was slow and had the worst tank (beside Longer) at the club.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
it does, but i also thought after his first number of games that we'd drafted a dud. but he did show a little promise over the 2016 season. just needed to get fit and hold marks. then the concussions issues really set in. still think, even without them, all we'd drafted was a serviceable full forward. dominated at junior because of his size, lost that advantage in afl.

Yet despite his apparent shite tank he was able to move around the ground and take 6 or marks in a 1/3 of the games he played?B.M wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 6:54pm Devilhead

Pretty certain I saw climb him over the top of packs and take some fantastic contested marks as well - you don't think that takes athleticism??
As for Lynch you just confirmed that Lynch was a bigger sized aerobic beast yet it seems ....... Paddy outperformed him as forward over those first 35 games
As for the Suns being an ordinary side I think you will find we have been a pretty ordinary side as well over the last few years
So yeah your opinion I think is very much narrow in its view given Paddy's concussions issues throughout his career which has obviously has had a huge effect with regard to his inability to condition himself to your lofty standards of a 1st to 3rd year player.
Let's face it though the 2014 Draft class will not be seen as a draft for the ages ..... unless of course Dougal Howard can step up

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Sorry ..... Ben King in what category?
Ben King like the majority of 1st to 3rd players is still finding his feet and building fitness and currently struggles to run games out
In time ........ hopefully by the time he pulls on the RWB ........ he will be conditioned to a sufficient standard to be able to dominate in the position we play him whether that be forward or back.
For many players it takes years for them to condition themselves to play senior AFL footy at a high standard - so in the meantime what we have is potential and hopefully with the right development processes in place we can help our young developing players realise their potential.
There were games that Paddy absolutely showed that could make it as as serious AFL player and of course there were other games in which he struggled - that pretty standard for young highly rated draftees

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Footy is a brutal game both physically and employment wise.
Paddy still dreams of himself as a football player.
He does not want to give up that dream.
The club has effectively told him.
You will get paid like a footballer for 2020, but the payment will be up front.
You can use club facilities and support like a player.
You can train like a player.
But we will not play you in 2020 and will never do so again.
We will not let you clog the list when the club and someone else can use that list space.
If by some miracle you are able to play again we will look at drafting you at that time as will other clubs, that is your dream but we deal in realities.
You are delisted, understood.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
I don’t like to bag the club generally , but it was a poor selection.
He just never looked like a #1 pick.
Admittedly that was a crappy draft talent wise, but the recruiting team of the time just didn’t do enough homework.

Re: Paddy to be delisted
I am so sorry for him, and for everyone who set up and shared what was a very reasonable dream to have.
Wasn't there talk of keeping Paddy on a long term injured list, and getting another pick?
That's a straw I've been keen to clutch in recent days. Where did that go?

Or didn’t just select the obvious?!
When at the pointy end of the draft, there is 1 rule
Take the best available... regardless of position... when rebuilding you just keep stockpiling talent.
We outsmarted ourselves by taking a KPP that we thought represented value, rather than the best player

Re: Paddy to be delisted
Paddy was rated in the top 2 by nearly all clubs and most expert draft commentators at the time- he was considered the best pure forward in the draft ..... how is that outsmarting oneself?B.M wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 8:58pm Or didn’t just select the obvious?!

Ok so we take Petracca and ........ it would still be rated a fail
There are absolutely no guarantees that a No 1 draft pick let alone any draft pick is going to make it - it is not an exact science
I believe the correct choice was made at the time unfortunately due to circumstances beyond anyone's control ...... it currently hasn't worked out .... though it may have done without the concussion issues and some impatient supporters gave him space to develop given that he is a key position player playing the most difficult role in the game

Word is that Patracca is a major league tosser and has been all through junior football. I support the club for bypassing him on cultural grounds.Stian wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 4:06pm I remember all of the calls on here for us to draft Petracca at that time but I agree that both Petracca and Brayshaw have been disappointing.
Has anybody looked at the AFL playing records of the others in that draft to see who actually turned out to be the best of that year?

Yes but apparently that is not important as you should draft the supposed best talentToy Saint wrote: ↑Mon 28 Oct 2019 9:48pmWord is that Patracca is a major league tosser and has been all through junior football. So if Paddy can now try ASADA unapproved treatments then surely he would not be allowed around the club.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Rule 2. when the draft pick will only produce a mediocre player convert the pick - merge or split.
This means that when you can't get full value from a No1 pick then split that pick into pick 8 and pick 10 OR picks 16, 18 & 19.
