Hanners out for the year?
Better not be Hill’s knee is worse than expected.
Hopefully it’s Paddy finally retiring - he’s a “big” player size wise.

My guess is a fluff piece to keep the good will from trade week going.

Unfortunately he is done. They mentioned they were still unsure when he would be able to train at a level to play again. Fitness has never been his strong suit.

Well for those that missed it, fear not as you basically missed nothing.
Yes Paddy visited RSEA an sat on a park bench with Lethers. That was the highlight I kid you not!
Situation remain s that the club still does not know when, if ever, that Paddy will return to training.....but he was reported to be in the best medical hands.

You’re over stating things. That footage was from early in the year.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Wed 23 Oct 2019 8:21pm

Nothing happened and they had no footage of it.

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
Mark Stevens must have got his first job at New Idea.
What a rubbish non-story.
'News' is something that's contemporary.
How could they even think of putting this out there?

Maybe the club has had the tough chat with Paddy to tell him he will be paid out and delisted.

Blind Freddy knows he’s cooked as an AFL player.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Wed 23 Oct 2019 9:00pm Maybe the club has had the tough chat with Paddy to tell him he will be paid out and delisted.
If we are forced to keep him on our list for legal/extraordinary type reasons in 2020, we just need dispensation from the AFL for an extra spot on our list now - we don’t want to wait until March or the mid season draft ideally.

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
It appears that "Blind Freddy" was a police officer, Sir Frederick William Pottinger, who was in charge of the Lachlan district in NSW. The success of bushranger Ben Hall in evading capture there in 1862 earned Pottinger the name. Ben Hall was the great great grandfather of Barry Hall, according to Ebanezer Murdoch anyway.

The same expert hands that worked on Freeman for two years, and took months to get Hanners into second gear?

You may have not taken up on the tone of my reply. I was taking the piss.
Nothing has changed and IMO I can't see Paddy coming back.
I suspect it is more that Paddy does not want to pull the pin, and we cannot afford to pay him out at present.
And that:
- he will remain on the LTI till his contract finishes.
- we use his spot with another top up player
- come the 2020 trade that we will no longer be paying for Paddy nor Steven and that will free up $$ for our target/s

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
again my question is this. if paddy is finished, and medical experts say he is finished, why can't our insurance pay him out?

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
1/ IF. It may not be that B&W where he is 100% ruled out permanently.desertsaint wrote: ↑Thu 24 Oct 2019 1:54am again my question is this. if paddy is finished, and medical experts say he is finished, why can't our insurance pay him out?
2/ Do you know that our insurance would actually cover such things?
Being such a known risk the club might have to self-insure for things such as players salaries.
Permanent disability may not yet be proven. Moreso if Paddy is of a mind to come back.

I think he will have to retire. Unfortunate for him. Just my opinion though.

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
No doubt McCartin is in the best of medical hands - in his own interests and, given he and the advice he is receiving are positive looking forward, in the interests of the Club including because he is a required player
If it takes time it takes time
How many games has Nic Nat played over recent seasons due to successive knee issues
And didn’t the likes of Riewoldt, Ball and now King miss seasons due to injury, all before they forged AFL careers
Show some patience and await the outcome - including wishing the player every success in his endeavours
Career ending injuries are such as those suffered by Neil Sasche and Peter Motley
Apart from that, where there is life their is hope
The Club is doing the right thing by keeping the player - and any expectations - out of the media spotlight concentrating on the issue not speculation

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
Perfect response, he wouldn't be on big money for us not to risk him holding a spot on our list (eg Freeman). We have heaps of spots to fill up as it is. I'll be sad not to see him show his full #1 pick potential. I believe he still has a year on his contract, it would be good to see this out before making a decision. To the top wrote: ↑Thu 24 Oct 2019 3:10pm No doubt McCartin is in the best of medical hands - in his own interests and, given he and the advice he is receiving are positive looking forward, in the interests of the Club including because he is a required player

Re: Big News on Big Saint according to Mark Stevens
I personally believe career ending injuries should be covered by the AFL and not the club forced to pay out contracts.
I do feel sad for the guy that his career has gone this way and would no doubt impact on his mental health

I'll be very pissed off if Paddy retires and is picked up by Geelong as a replacement for Hawkins.
