B: Wilkie Howard Paton
HB: Coffield Carlisle Webster
C: Billings Ross Hill
HF: Battle Marshall Long
F: Gresham King Membrey
R: Ryder Steele (C) Hannebury
IC: Clark Jones Butler Bytel
E: Hind Roberton Parker Dunstan
Gives an idea how well we are covered with the new 5 plus King & Bytel - I would not complain if the Emergencies played.
Austin Geary Newnes Phillips Clavarino Lonie Kent Sinclair McCartin Brown Marsh Langlands McKenzie - I suspect though that Newnes & McCartin may not be there, possibly Brown.
We certainly need another ruck (AFL experienced) & a U/18 to develop.

Re: best 22 round 1
I totally agree with the starting 18, but on the bench would have
Roberton ( with fingers crossed ) for Coffield ( not at all a knock on Nick, but would be great to see Robbo return to his best )
Webster for Paton ( again Ben is definitely coming on well, but hopefully Jimmy can get back to his best after an injury-interrupted season )
Hind for Sinclair ( Jack is thereabouts, but Nick had more impact when he came into the team, and deserves the spot I think ).
Whichever way we go, it will be an intriguing round 1.

Hind in for Long. Long to never play unless we have injuries and are desperate

Re: best 22 round 1
At any point in the season we can expect three injuries across the lines. One defender out, one mid and one forward.
I expect the "subs" to be Brown, Dunstan and Parker.
I also expect them to pick Kent for Round One although I do not know why.

Would think granting Rowe his 100th AFL game ,especially after all his battles with illness ect in Round 23 is a little different to playing a guy who had 0 tackles for 5 weeks or whatever it was over and over again.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 19 Oct 2019 6:32pmAhem (cough) Final Round this season Sam Rowe (cough)older saint wrote: ↑Fri 18 Oct 2019 7:37pmRicho was coach which meant Newnes & McKenzie were also . Re: best 22 round 1
Coffield, judging by his late season form, is going to be a star next year and should be a walk up start for round one, even if on the bench.

Re: best 22 round 1
If you want to get a handle on the progress of Coffield then watch the first 20 minutes v Freo until he unfortunately did his shoulder
Yes he cut one just too fine and put it out on the full but he was dominating and BOG to that point - Fyfe notwithstanding
Then there is Clark
With Roberton, equally proficient off both left and right, the run and carry we have lacked from defence will be a thing of the past
With the progress of Battle, Carlisle fit and if Howard lives up to reputation there is our defence - and a marked improvement on all fronts
Our defence will be class

Its phenomenal that Wilkie is now an absolute lock in everyones team. How much did we luck out with this guy? One thing that still amazes me and dosnt get enough recognition is just how well he slotted into our best 22 and played at such a high standard. To play every game in your first year is amazing. Marshall was the big story of 2019 but this guy was a very close 2nd IMO.

Maybe, still a gift though - and given how badly that match panned out, this game left as bad a taste in my mouth as our blinder in China.older saint wrote: ↑Sun 20 Oct 2019 2:37pmWould think granting Rowe his 100th AFL game ,especially after all his battles with illness ect in Round 23 is a little different to playing a guy who had 0 tackles for 5 weeks or whatever it was over and over again.samuraisaint wrote: ↑Sat 19 Oct 2019 6:32pmAhem (cough) Final Round this season Sam Rowe (cough)older saint wrote: ↑Fri 18 Oct 2019 7:37pmRicho was coach which meant Newnes & McKenzie were also . Re: best 22 round 1
I'm with you here, (no Geary) - this is the best 22 effort I've seen. But I'm opting for Roberton over Webster and would love to see Hind in, too, somehow, for Butler would be the obvious place. And for those who talk about lock down small backs (by removing Webster), Jones and Clark can both assume those roles. Wilkie can play small, too. Interesting choice for captain. How we ggonna squeeze Ben King in in 2021 ?Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 19 Oct 2019 7:11pm B: Wilkie Howard Paton

I like that side, although I think Clark takes Savage's spot and Battle goes forwardolder saint wrote: ↑Fri 18 Oct 2019 1:45pm A few assumptions regarding how pre season training and games go but here is my guess:

I think key to that side is Gresham and Billings, they simply have to create scoring pressure. If not themselves, then they need to be involved in plenty.
Sinclair would be awfully worried here too, but could work well with that HF line
St. Kilda Football Club. Going strong, since 1960

Surely BATTLE goes forward now!!?
Ill be very dissapointed if he isnt transformed back to a forward. He is a gun.
Also time for savage to be overtaken. If we wanna be a seriously good team.

Long Carslile Geary
Clarke Battle Savage
Hill Hannebery Jones
Gresham Howard Billings
Membrey King Butler
Marshall Steele Ross
Roberton Wilkie Lonie Coffield
That team would burn up the grass at Marvel.
Howard plays forward taking the Bruce role of supporting Marshall in the ruck.
Battle can go forward backed up by Wilke or Roberton who can play tall.
Anyone thinking Geary, Savage, Ross etc aren’t in our best 22 are kidding themselves IMO.
