I think a good outcome would be for Geary to step down as captain, and allow someone else to take the reigns. As some have said already, Gearz is an exceptional leader on and off the field however his selection in the team can't be compromised by the fact that he's captain.

I think they will stick with Gears. Seb loses too many coin tosses.

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
If Gears is fit and playing, he should start captain.
Surely the club is aware Gears time is running out, hopefully the injuries he sustained this season don't rapidly end his career.
I just can't see him being in our side by mid-season 2020 with Coffield, Paton, etc on there way.
Surely many would be eyeing out our next leader.
There is no standout future captain (I.E Riewoldt) ATM.
I like Steele or Marshall over Seb, although Seb hasn't done much wrong in the temp role.
If Dylan Roberton's career and health were guaranteed, I would think he would be a popular choice amongst players and coaches.
Hunter Clarke maybe a year or two early.
I did have a dream (a year ago) he held aloft the Cup as skipper.

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
Should really be someone who is all over their actually abilities as the time put into captaincy is a little more than the coin toss. If it is not Geary it should be Ross with Membrey as vice captain. Let Steele and Marshall focus on other things for now.

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
Will Geary play better, contribute more onfield during games and off field if he is unburdened from the captain role? I don't think so. So there is no opportunity cost. May as well keep going. He is liked it seems. Only query is if he isn't good enough as a player, and I don't think we can say he isn't yet.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
We all know that Geary is coming to the end as a player and hence, as Captain. We need one of our better players to emerge as Captain material sooner rather than later. Personally - I'd spew up if it's Seb Ross. Would much prefer Jack Steele for now and let him grow into it.St Loxton wrote: ↑Tue 22 Oct 2019 10:30am If Gears is fit and playing, he should start captain.

Why do we need a captain, can't we just have tosser.
A number of well qualified players on the list.
Captains, is there anyone really qualified.

'Just the coin toss'? Listen.
The captain is in the leadership group, this group helps drive the standards, they set the tone, especially for younger players. They provide guidance and advice for ypunger ones, including having some over for dinner, helping organise transport for younger ones...
The captain's duties eat a lot into off-field time that the captain should spend with family.

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
Geary as Captain was a product of Richardson and his conservatism as Coach
I trust that with Ratten the players are educated to not only focus on structure and role within that structure but to show case inventive and aggressive attacking skills
The result is to close down the concerning gap between what is scored against us and what we score - because our percentage was an indictment of structure and role within structure being the focus
Out percentage over recent seasons says we were deficient
The positive is that we have the likes of Hill, Billings, Clark, Coffield, Battle, Marshall, Gresham, Carlisle who are class plus we await King
Past that we have adequate foot soldiers starting with Steele, Membrey, Ross and Dunstan, the potential of Long and Bytel and the addition of those added last week
They are charged with getting our percentage from having a 7 in front of it to being over 100
So score more and defend better - and where all of Steele, Ross and Dunstan in the guts concerns me because they do not have the X factor, bursting away and scoring (again why allow Acres to go because that inventiveness was his point of difference)
The very fact that a “lock down small defender” from the Richardson regime is still mentioned as Captain (indeed in the side) is the problem from Richardson and his time
We have to move on
We have the class - challenge them to out play their opposition, not be part of a structure that contains

Seb has won 2 of the past 3 B&Fs and captained in Geary’s absence last year
Pretty sure he’s next in line

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
I think you're right. Which as I said above, is why I'll probably spew up. He's as utterly uninspiring in person as Geary. I'd much rather he concentrate on making his football more damaging and impactful instead.
Just about the worst thing you can have as a supporter is to be embarrassed about whom your club captain is.

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?
Uninspiring
How well do you know Seb?
I don’t know him, but I do know he’s a good footballer. You don’t win multiple B&Fs at a club if you’re not.
Silly to suggest he’s not impactful, he obviously impacts.
