Geary Howard Wilkie
Clark Carlisle Webster
Hannebery Steele Hill
Billings Battle Gresham
Membrey King Lonie
Marshall Ross Dunstan
Ryder Jones Parker Long
Players likely to be 22 (difference of opinion) : Savage, Sinclair
Players probably on fringe : Paton, McKenzie, Newnes, Butler, Kent, Coffield
Anyone I missed probably goes where you think they should go.
BTW Geary is still easily our best small lock down defender. He’s best 22 - how quickly we forget his value.

Re: Best 22 - round 1 2020
Is it just me or does it all of a sudden seam like there is immense competition for nearly every spot on the ground. Versatile/Utility/Swingman are a coaches dream are they not.
Yes and I agree Gears is still in our best 22 but I disagree Coffield is ahead of Webster, and just on Coffield, this is an important year for him, he needs to establish himself proper or the critics will come.

Re: Best 22 - round 1 2020
True, Coffield needs to find consistent poise and finish and get more of it. He also needs to use his bulk a lot more. For me, Geary hasn't been among our best for a couple years. He can't kick the ball. I see Paton as a like-for-like replacement; I'd have McKenzie above him for the same role. And Jones can play it too, at a pinch. I'd hazard a guess, even, Wilkie can play small (though may lack the pace). I'd be messin around in pre-season trying diff. blokes in that spot: Parker, Kent, Hind, Coffs, Sinclair. Its really important we set standards and ball use has to become a non-negotiable.

There is no way the captain won't be picked in the side for round one unless he is injured..

People are overlooking Bytel. At 189cm midfielder he could be a surprise

Re: Best 22 - round 1 2020
You'd think he will take a fair chunk of the season to break into the side for his debut now there is a fair bit of talent in the midfield to push out. We'd either have to have been severely hit with injuries or mass form slumps for him to be playing round 1terry smith rules wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2019 3:23pm People are overlooking Bytel. If Bytel gets fit, then he may push for selection very late in the season. The medical staff will be careful managing him. If what I saw of him in U18s translates to AFL, then look out.

We've bought in guys with good wheels so I'm embracing this and going for leg speed and flexibility and running the ball out of defence through the wings.
Membrey high half forward as the get out kick and Billings, Gresham, Butler & Lonie are at the feet of the twin 200cm towers in Carslile and King. Carslile and Howard are interchangeable.

Re: Best 22 - round 1 2020
Agree, as a 17 year old was second to Sam Walsh in possessions for the season and also co-captained Calder. Struggled second year due to his back. My son works with Calder and rates him potential future captain, great kid with a really good attitude.

Re: Best 22 - round 1 2020
Critics abound, but Coffield was good late in the season when he came back in. Despite having been at the club for 2 seasons he is still under 20.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2019 7:56am he needs to establish himself proper or the critics will come.
Personally I would be looking to get more senior games into him. Hard task in 2020!

yeah his late season showing hopefully gives him confidence to crack in with the big boys. another pre season in the gym hopefully boosts said confidence.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Thu 17 Oct 2019 6:01pmCritics abound, but Coffield was good late in the season when he came back in.
