Who To Delist
We started the season with 42 players on the senior list after the addition of Sam Rowe and Jonathan Marsh.
We have added 5 senior players and lost 3 as a result of trades.
That leaves 44 players that must be culled to 37 to allow for 3 draft picks or rookie upgrades.
We know that Armitage, Longer and Rowe have retired or been delisted.
4 more must go
The following are not contracted
Rice
White
Newnes
Brown
Savage
Carlisle
The club must decide whether they will ever risk playing these contracted guys again
McCartin
Roberton
The coach may want to send some contracted notorious ball butchers to the abattoir.
I had a former boss who was told that he had to put forward 10 names.
By doing so he may protect another 40 to 50.
Many years later he said it was most horrid task he ever had to do.
Everyone had their list of 10 but only his counted.
He got it perfectly right according to most.
AFL football is a brutal game when you are responsible for the names.
It is much easier when you only get to have your say but it doesn't count.
My selections of 4 to go
Rice, White, Newnes, McCartin
The risk on McCartin is just too great and I would need plenty of medical convincing on Roberton.

Re: Who To Delist
Personally I’d get rid of Rice and McCartin for sure.
I like Brown but with Dougal, Clavarino and Austin..l that’s probably enough really. Could he be a mature aged rookie?
After that I’d really prefer to keep White... so either of Newnes and Savage

Re: Who To Delist
Brandon White won Sandringham's B&F and was in the best players almost every game he played this year!!!!!!!!!!
How he wasn't selected for more than one game is just disgraceful.
I'd be filthy if he gets delisted.
They sign McKenzie for three years... FACEPALM
There's absolutely no way known I'd delist a footballer who just won Sandringham's B&F and was in the best players in almost every game he played for the entire year.
I would definitely give him a fair go and an opportunity.
In my opinion only an absolute muppet would delist him after the year he just had at Sandringham.

I'd delist
McKenzie, it means paying out a three year contract... seriously in what universe does it make any sense to have given him a three year deal this year.
Who is responsible for this garbage?
Newnes
Rice
Kent and pay him out for two years... seriously what a stupid decision to recruit him to begin with

Re: Who To Delist
I wonder if we'll admit a mistake and cut Young, who is a mediocre state level player.
If contracts aren't an issue and I'm in charge, the following go:
Young
McCartin
Rice
Newnes
Brown
Kent
Scour the state leagues for late developers and top performers like Marshall and Wilkie.

Re: Who To Delist
Lewis Pierce has already been delisted from the ROOKIE list.
Stiil on the rookie list we have
Darragh Joyce he must be upgraded to the senior list OR face the national draft before being rookied again OR be delisted.
He does have contract that expires at the end of season 2021.
What is your decision ?
I say he gets re-rookied
Doulton Langlands he can remain a rookie one more year and has a contrct that expires at end of season 2020
Jack Mayo he can remain a rookie two more years and has a contract that expires at end of season 2020.
Callum Wilkie can remain a rookie two more years and has a contract that epires at end of season 2021.
We can deploy pick 100 at the national draft OR promote Wilkie to the senior list and have a rookie pick instead.
What is your decision ?
I say he is promoted and we get rookie pick 5 rather than pick 100 in the national draft.
Sam Alabakis is a rookie type B, he can remain a rookie B for 2 more years and is suspected to have a contract ending 2021.

Both Pierce and Mayo were/ are ROOKIE listed, not on the senior list so do not impact the national draft.on the outer wrote: ↑Wed 16 Oct 2019 9:17pm I think we need to delist 4 but you have forgotten Pierce and Mayo.

Re: Who To Delist
I'm going to have a deeper think about his over the next few days and weeks but right off the top I'm leading towards keeping Nathan Brown, I think he's still playing great footy and his body his holding up but that's not the main reason, leadership and coaching could probably be his greatest contribution, whether it be on or off the field. How often he could make the best 22 week in week out would be interesting to see, at the very least he could still be a great backup and depth player for one more year.

D Mac - should have been offered to any takers (maybe he was)
Newnes - maybe re rookied?
Rice - just too many ahead of him
McCartin- finished, for his own sake we need to let him go

Re: Who To Delist
Very unlikely that McCartin is delisted, especially as it has been stated by the club that he is going to have another go. I hope he does. An adverse medical report may change that of course, but at present, apparently he is heading in the right direction.
Rice, White look gone, probably Brown, not sure on others. I don't think Young will make it, but he has a year to go I think. Newnes is good backup

Re: Who To Delist
Well if Newnes accepts the Saints contract offer and if the Contracts page on this site is correct which says Savage has contract for 2020, then the 3 uncontracted guys left are Brown, Rice and White who would all need to be delisted.

'St Kilda has confirmed three further list changes following the completion of the 2019 AFL Trade Period.
Defenders Brandon White and Bailey Rice, and small forward Robbie Young were told today that they had been unable to secure a place on the club’s list in 2020.
General Manager of Football Simon Lethlean thanked the players for their contribution to the Saints.
SAINTS THANK STEVEN: Stuv farewells Moorabbin
“Bailey and Brandon arrived at the club together in 2015 and should be proud of the way they have acquitted themselves,” Lethlean said.
“They are held in high regard by their teammates and coaches, and we wish them all the best for the future.”
“Robbie was one of a number of mature age recruits we selected in last year’s draft, and it was great to see him earn his AFL debut.
“With a number of small forwards on our list, unfortunately the opportunity at the Saints for Robbie has come to an end.
BRUCE DEPARTS: Forward finds new home at the Kennel
“As with the other boys, we thank him for his commitment to St Kilda and wish him and his family good luck for the next chapter.”
White and Rice played 11 games each across four seasons, with Young making three appearances this season.
The trio joins David Armitage, Sam Rowe, Billy Longer and Lewis Pierce as current list changes."
Basically pick themselves don't they.
One more to depart.
Newnes or Brown?
Maybe both.
