While I appreciate the reasons why Jack sought a trade I think it is an absolute disgrace that our four times best and fairest winner, rated elite in so many areas, has been traded for peanuts.

It is disrespectful of Jack even though he is getting to his desired destination. It is also deeply disrespectful of our footy club.

The only comfort I take from this is it might help secure the Hill deal.

But this is shameful. Just my opinion.
Based on his output this year, what would you have offered?
Hannebery cost us a second rounder.

It is nothing short of embarrassing

They can dress it up all they want

But geelong got Jack Steven for Zac Smith

They would be laughing their arses off!!!

One player a club champion the other a dud!

Gallagher should be ashamed of that... his ONLY concern is to do what’s best for the club and it’s members!
He has not done that. Pathetic

Is anyone able to confirm if we’re paying part of his salary still?

Yeah should have forced him to stay that would have been a really good look for the club.

had to get rid of him, and in the absence of multiple clubs vying for him, we had no choice but to receive whatever was given.

A voice of reason amid the colour and emotion of others.

At the end of the day, we're in the business of winning premierships - something we've absolutely sucked at for as long as I can remember.

You don't give away your best player for nothing. An iconic player. You move heaven and earth to get it right.

On the flip side, how impressive are Geelong at trading?

They paid unders to bring in Dangerfield; recieved the farm for Tim Kelly, and now rake in Steven for absolutely nothing.

That's what quality looks like. Well done, Cats.
Basically - we're still paying overs and receiving unders due to the shameful mismanagement of our football club over the past 10 years - starting with the debacle of Seaford and then the poor recruiting, player development and Senior Coaching appointments.

I only feel like we're starting to get on an even keel and it's going to take a while longer yet. At least our list is starting to look more balanced and a few list cloggers are going.

Big deal. Geelong now have the best midfield of 2016. They can have one last tilt at losing a final again, then we can look down at them for the next decade.

Jack was a star, a shining light when we had so few. WAS.

If the Cats get 40 games out of him, they'll be thrilled. We got something for him. He gets a greater chance to be happy. Move on.

Meh .... disappointing end but trine to move forward

Grandpa Cats won't be winning anything next year with their aging list so who cares

We come out looking like a decent club moving on a champion player who has internal conflicts to help him out

This will all be forgotten soon enough!!

Not forced him to stay

Forced Geelong to pay a fair price for a champion.

I reckon this is daylight robbery

How would you have forced them? Taken a crowbar round? He's completely surplus to their requirements!

Looking down at Geelong?

Like they have done with us for 15 years?

Stephen Wells will make sure they don’t drop outside the top 6. He is a proper list manager.

Just to add - it was an unusual situation. We wanted them to take him because he wanted to go there. They were always "meh". Personally, I think they'll be lucky to get as much out of him as Richmond got out of Mav but time will tell.

Since Jack is an opposition player now, can we forget about all the ‘not spreading rumours’ crap?

He took us for a ride, screwed up his personal life and got us to pay him $800k for his holiday.

Good riddance.

Personally I don’t agree

There public persona was meh but I reckon they’re laughing all the way to the bank personally.

Absolutely crushed us in this. Gained an elite player for a mid 50s pick

If Geelong can nurse him back to being an elite player then good luck to them. It is something we tried to do but failed, and it is unlikely we would have been able to get him back to any where near his best if he had stayed with us. 58 is an okay result all things considered.

People ......... he will be 30 at the start if next year with a drug and alcohol past and mental issues

He won't make one iota difference to Geelong winning the Premierahip

With their aging.list and having just got rid of Kelly they are on the precipice

There would not have been a single club that would have paid more than what the Cats dis and if we kept Steven we may have gone thru the same issues with him as what happened this year

Move on - thanks Jack for your great service when you were young fit and healthy

Ten years after the '09 GF with Chapman on supplements, Hawkins hitting the post, the coach dealing drugs and Dank and Dr Ageless floating around in the background ...

... the Cats ream us again.
