Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
Now, there is a question.
I, for one, would be interested in knowing what other Saints supporters think?
We will be a very different footy team when you look at our possible best 22, especially so if we can welcome back Dylan Roberton, with no health problems.
Is it good enough to give the eight a shake?
Another good question.
It is all very well recruiting good players. But premierships are won by good teams not individual players.
Our new recruits need to gel with the other guys. Make them better players and vice versa.
It doesn't always work completely. For example, I think Dylan Shiel was a better player with GWS than with the Bummers.
But I've got a good feeling about the five we are getting. All of them can play. All of them have proved it in the past. Some more consistently than others.
But I also think Ratts has a good footy brain. I think the players have more freedom and better communication with him than with Richo. Just my observation and opinion.
I guess we all look optimistically to next year hoping for improvement.
All I will say is, I am liking the look of what could be our new look footy team.

Am optimistic too.
But to put the downside.
- I am not sold on Hill. Great ball getter but often butchers it.
- giving away a 50 goal a year forward (scarce commodities)
- giving away a recent AA mid (scarce commodities).
But happy with the other potential top-up picks.
And have a lot faith and respect for Ratts.

Hill's kicking is considered elite in terms of the number of kicks and when at the Hawks his efficiency was through the roof but slipped a little under Lyon's coaching due to less emphasis placed on skills training. Expect Brad will once again enjoy a training regime that includes a huge emphasis on skills training which hopefully sees Brad's sublime distribution return to the upper elite regions once again.Enrico_Misso wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 11:43am Am optimistic too.

Brad Hill > Jack Steven
Josh Bruce < predicted potential in King and Co. (RoMa and Ryder to bridge the gap while we wait and see if Max can make it) with possibly cameo performances from Carlise, Battle and Howard).
Is it me or is there all of a sudden a huge amount of versatility in our list.

Membrey has the tools to kick 50.
Hill, Hannebry, Billings, Gresham, Clark as the mid field group to go the next level.

Depends on luck with injuries
Last year our highest paid players missed large chunks of the season
Steven, Hannebury, Carlisle, Geary, Roberton
Amongs other key injuries
Amazed we won 9

Yep, I agree, and hence with a bit of luck with injuries, reckon there’s a fair bit of upside

Re: Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
the fact we won 9 shows the list wasn't all that bad considering how bad we were hit with injuries, also shows the development wasn't as poor as some make out, now add, Dan Han. Brad Hill, Zac Jones, Dougal Howard, Buttler, Robert Dylan, a Jake Carlise with a full pre season (hopefully), Hunter and Coffield continuing their upward trajectory, Max King to possible establish himself but not really that important in 2020 if the RoMa and Ryder combo are firing up forward.
I'd expect there will be quite the exciting buildup to round 1 if the pre season goes well. Can't wait. The exciting times have returned hopefully.

I think we will regret trading Bruce unless King can be exceptional.
At 19 and not yet played a game it is a big ask.

Re: Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
You’ve still got to win 9 games, regardless.
Better run with injuries we would have won 11
It’s showed we were better than some clubs, and better than predicted, some considered us wooden spoon material.

At least two of those wins we wouldn’t have got without Bruce.

Re: Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
With Jack Steven and Dan Hannebery in the team we would have won at least another 1 to 2 more games, (the Freo game in Freo for example we pulled up short in the midfield).
you could probably mount a strong argument too that Lonie's loss hurt us as much as any other, throw him in and we probably beat Adelaide before he went down, swung the momentum of the game, up until then we were on top, players have since admitted Lonie going down took a few weeks to regroup. Freo in Freo, should have won that one...just to mention a couple of wins we could have won with one or two of our best 22 available 2019.

Re: Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
Dumb decisions about to be made if we lose some of our key matchwinners
We won games in 2019 with Blakenator and Juicey having an influence in our wins...Stuvvy also playing a crucial part in a couple of wins from his handful of games
If there is a long term plan, perhaps we might be better in 2021 or 2022, but I reckon it'll take a year to consolidate if we make half a dozen changes

Seb Ross wins a best and fairest, but regardless whether he is outstanding or poor, he is not a key matchwinner or influencer.CURLY wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 1:07pmSo we lost another 11 with him then.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 1:04pmAt least two of those wins we wouldn’t have got without Bruce.
Seb should be commended for his work ethic and because he is consistent, but I reckon he is easily replaced as opposed to a KPP like Juice

Sebby could very well be captain this year, your comments about him are misguided.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 2:37pmSeb Ross wins a best and fairest, but regardless whether he is outstanding or poor, he is not a key matchwinner or influencer.CURLY wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 1:07pmSo we lost another 11 with him then.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 1:04pmAt least two of those wins we wouldn’t have got without Bruce.

Didn’t Seb get a dozen Brownlow votes
That’s half a dozen times he was in the best few on the ground

Yes
He does receive a a lot of footy
I suppose that for some people it's how they rate a players influence
Hmmmm...Did Wayne Carey ever win a Brownlow?

We will be better, to argue otherwise is going to be a hard sell.

Re: Assuming We Do All The Trades..Will We Be Better?
You only have to go back to the Hawthorn game. That was an amazing effort, a couple of weeks later the wheels were off. This was mostly due to injuries, inconsistent young players and coming up against GWS and Adelaide.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 1:51pm With Jack Steven and Dan Hannebery in the team we would have won at least another 1 to 2 more games, (the Freo game in Freo for example we pulled up short in the midfield).
