Hey Scollop, do you realise that Jack has depression/mental health issues? Your attitude might send him over the edge. Are you prepared to live with those consequences?Scollop wrote: ↑Thu 10 Oct 2019 10:20am Now Brian Cook is in the media today claiming that Geelong don't want to part with one of their picks in the 20's or 30's.
So if I was St Kilda, I'd stand firm and tell Geelong to shove it.
If Jack wants to play footy with them in 2020 then they need to stump up or Jack can either sit out a year or play with us for the duration of his current contract

How does it affect Jack’s mental health and self worth to know that Geelong value him so low that even though they are stacked with draft are not prepared to offer anything except a rubbish pick?Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 3:58pmHey Scollop, do you realise that Jack has depression/mental health issues? Also they are not prepared to pay his salary without Saints sharing it.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
All parties, players, officials, managers are playing 'the game' so to speak, which softens the blow somewhat in so far as anyone's nominated draft pick and currency is nominally deemed to be moment to moment. Again, who has more moral responsibility for Jack's mental welfare? St Kilda f c. ? Geelong? Jack's manager? Doctor? Jack himself? Us fans?
Of course it's a rhetorical question.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
What a stupid thing to say, especially coming from someone who has such a negative signature re Ryder... St Kilda has a responsibility to look after St Kilda, not pander to Geelong who are being really unfair in the way they are viewing Jack Steven's value. Yes, he is a risk and there is no guarantee that he will get back to what he was, but there's an incredibly strong chance that he'll go fine and do what he does best. His best is a first round pick at a bare minimum, and if he's confident that a change in environment amongst other factors, will see him return to his best, then pick 37 is an absolute steal FFS. Geelong have a plethora of picks available and if they can't give up what's absolutely unders, then they can GGF.Nick_BlueNRG wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 3:58pmHey Scollop, do you realise that Jack has depression/mental health issues? That said, I want the best for Steven, and if him not getting to go to another club is something that sets him off, then I'd say he has bigger issues than worrying about kicking a football. The club have a responsibility to look after Steven NOT Geelong, and I'm sure the club will support Steven with whatever winds up happening. If he has to have a year off to focus on getting himself right, then so be it. Geelong have been getting a leg-up for bloody ages, so to be a club that breaks that cycle (albeit marginally) then I'd be happy with that.

If an answer to my question is, 'all of us' , then where does that leave StKFC as a competing entity among all clubs? Will a Club brownlow be introduced for Best and Fairest Club and a bonus 4 points be presented?

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
The old adage in life is that for every action there is a reaction.
From my understanding, Jack is now the subject of the reaction.
Remember that he played some VFL games followed by a return to the AFL side for the last (3?) Rounds of the Season.
I would assess that he is more preoccupied and that preoccupation is the determining factor - including his "need" to reside in closer proximity to his family at Lorne (so, who exactly resides at Lorne and under what circumstances?).
And having scanned the previous page for any pertinent information, can I just add that post the election of Menzies some 75 years ago, Australia has had 20 years of Labor governments, years that coincided with the First Global Oil Crisis and the 1974 Stock Market Crash, the 1987 Stock Market Crash and the Savings & Loans debacle then the GFC.
Further, the highest 10 Year Bond Yield rate (from RBA data) was over 16% in 1982 (after 7 years of Coalition government)
The lowest 10 Year Bond Yield Rate (from the same source) is 0.85% last week (after 6 years of Coalition government).
Some are so rusted on as not to see the facts.
Instead they resort to references to the "left", when the "right" has been on the Treasury Benches for 55 of the last 75 years.
And what we survey today is the result of those 55 years of 75 years.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Jack was happy to take 800k last year whilst StK gave him 16 weeks off to deal with his issues, and he’s happy for StK to pay another 400k whilst he plays at Geelong next year for pick 54.
I don’t think we owe him much, we have paid him pretty well over two years for 6 games.

I think we have been extremely understanding towards JS.
Now we have to look after our own interests.
Taking pick 37 is akin to giving him away for nothing.
Unless we get a fair offer (ie first round pick) we should not capitulate to Geelong.
Under the guise of "doing the right thing by Jack" they are effectively bullying us.
I would sooner we stood our ground even if it means no deal is done.
For heavens sake
- we are paying him good money
- he has plenty of mates here and supportive fans
- it IS actually possible to commute from Lorne to Moorabbin
So why the hell should we give away an A grader to a top 4 side?

I think his 5 year contract was back-loaded so we could afford Riewoldt and Montagna in the earlier years. He deserves what he is being paid now.B.M wrote: ↑Mon 14 Oct 2019 5:28pm Jack was happy to take 800k last year whilst StK gave him 16 weeks off to deal with his issues, and he’s happy for StK to pay another 400k whilst he plays at Geelong next year for pick 54.

Am I the only one on here that has heard about his after dark activities? Spoke with a cats person last night well connected to the club and they definitely have. This sort of stuff counts and no doubt has contributed to his 'mental health' issues. Surely everyone can read between the lines? Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Geelong should be ashamed of how they are treating Jack Steven.
He is a four times best and fairest winner. Easily our best player for the past five years.
He had one bad season. The move to the Cats will probably give him a new lease on life surrounded by family.
To not offer a suitable pick in exchange for him is disrespectful to Jack and our footy club.
We will probably accept the deal but it stinks imo.

Is it possible the rest of the comp think Jack being the best player for the past five years at St Kilda was probably not that much of an achievement? Also possible that if we are happy to give him up cheaply that the people closest to the situation know something we don't?damienc wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 7:54am Geelong should be ashamed of how they are treating Jack Steven.

Geelong know he will get there and know he will play very good footy. They also know that StKildas hand is forced on this one so won't be doing us any favours trade wise.Secret Kiel wrote: ↑Tue 15 Oct 2019 8:54amIs it possible the rest of the comp think Jack being the best player for the past five years at St Kilda was probably not that much of an achievement? Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
As far as I am aware Jack has indicated that he is happy to forgo his contract with St Kilda if traded to Geelong. So paying his salary is not part of the equation.
Not Craw, CRAW!
