I can't fit the old guard in the squad for 2020

Post: # 1828296Post groupie1 »

Butler King Parker/Kent
Long Marshall Membrey
Clark Gresh Billings
Wilkie Howard Roberton
Jones Clav Coffield

Ryder, Hanners, Ross
Bytel, Hill, Hines, Steele

EM: Battle, Paton, Savage, Acres, Geary, Brown, Webster, Carlisle, DMac

We MUST trade out these EMs while they have currency, keep Brown as back-up FB

The money guys: Steven, Carlisle, Geary, have to go
The currency guys: again Carlisle, Philips, Lonie, Webster, Savage, Dunstan have to be traded
Cloggers need to go; Newnes, Sinclair

I still say a bundle of these blokes for B King remains something we should attempt

If I were GCS knowing B King will leave after one more year, I'd take a package of Newnes, Carlisle, Geary, Webster, Philips for B King

feedback?

You’re taking the piss is my feedback.

Why are GC going to take a bundle of mid age C graders that you can’t fit in our starting 22 for a 19 YO 202cm potential A Grader?

Let’s see if they’ll swap Ben for Ryder and Kent next year?👍

Stop taking the piss, no one is falling for it.

GC are going to be competitive by taking 5 players you don’t rate in the best 22 of a bottom four team in exchange for a 19 YO 202cm potential A grader.

Don’t get high picks or trade for quality, take a bunch of c-graders from a bottom 4 club 👍

And Kent in front of Geary, Carslile, Acres, Lonie etc, etc

What do you base this on minneapolis? Don't get me wrong, I hope you're right but I don't see it this way. I reckon we are in the bottom 4 again unfortunately.

Clav is not ready to play FB and may never be.

Battle was a highlight in 2019. Shows great promise as a young player.

Battle Howard Coffield
Roberton Carlisle Clark
Hill Acres Jones
Long Marshall Billings
Membrey King Gresham
Ryder Steele Hannebery
Ross Dunstan Bytel Wilkie

I agree

No room for the old guard

To improve we must back our young class in and set them the challenge to show the competition their skills

Hi Nick,

I was replying to the first part of the post.

I was really just welcoming a new masochist to the family of eternal pain, angst, disappointment, bewilderment, frustration and suffering.

Like a new neighbor I thought I would bring over a plate of fresh brownies to smooth the ingress experience.

Per your question, I think we will improve in 2 ways. (Perhaps the "massive" adjective is a bit too Disney but I do see improvement.)

The first is we will have a coach that will correct our fundamental flaws.

The second is that the ins are more skillful than the outs.

Onwards!

After 2019

Any side that doesn’t have Marshall as number 1 ruck and Wilkie in the backline is a little silly

I hope you're right but I seriously doubt it. We have some good youth coming through but not enough of them. And now that we are trading away all of this year's draft picks that further dilutes our core group of young guns.

We should be trading away any oldies with currency and hitting the draft at least for the next 3 years. You need to get a core group of at least 20 all under the age of 25 before you do what we are doing this year. eg trading all our draft picks for ready made players.

I would take 12 and 18 to the draft and forget Hill and all the others. If our recruiters are any good we may end up with the equivalent of Nick Dal Santo and Matthew McGuire with 12 and 18.
