Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
Play hard Saints. Don’t accept pick 37. Pick 24 is the deal.

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
absolutely - especially seeing reports are saying we will pay some of his wage ? WTF ?? We lose a significant player for a crappy pick and then pay some of his wage to play for Geelong ?
that sounds like a terrible deal.
Pick 24 and his new employer pays him.
otherwise no deal and Jack can sit out for a year if he has so little desire to play for us

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
I wish ... but that's just not going to happen. The Cats have said they want 3 picks inside the top 30. Like I've said previously - I think the conversation would've been something like: -
Wells: You can have 57 and we'll pay all of his wage; Pick in the 30's and you pay 50% of his wage or a pick in the mid 20's and pay most of his wage"
Lethlean: We'll get back to you.
As much as I don't like it - it feels like the best COMPROMISE. That's the key word - trading is about compromise. Dildoro doesn't get that and it's why The Injectors' list and draft position is stuffed. You have to give a bit to (hopefully) get a lot. Personally - I hope Lethlean and Allen go super hard for the Dogs earliest pick. They had a pick earmarked for Keath but he's not going to be able to run for 4 months now; I want us to get that pick!!!!
In any case, I'm preferring to think of it as a (near) 30yo Jack Steven exchanged for a 24yo Zak Jones (presuming of course that Sydney will take 37 for Jones).
Hope we get 24 but not even remotely confident.
Go you red, black & white warriors

Yes agree. is most likely outcome re Stuv, whether we think it's fair or not.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Wed 09 Oct 2019 1:14pmI wish ... but that's just not going to happen. Am wondering about the following scenario :
If we get Dan Butler for bugger all (he's only 23), maybe we will consider offering the Dogs Josh Bruce plus one of our small forwards in exchange for their pick 12. That would be an excellent outcome.

It will clearly be 37 as we will want higher and they will want lower

Why should they dictate as we have the contracted player.
I would tell them 24 or we keep Jack.

They want a player under contract to us but we need to compromise???
The conversation here that no one seems to be having with Jack is that it looks like Geelong really don’t value him that much.
Don’t want to pay his full salary... don’t want our asking price that is IMO hardly outrageous

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
My gut feel is that Sydney have told us that they'll trade Zak Jones to us for a pick in the mid 20's but won't do so for a pick in the mid 30's. Hence, the stalemate.
If we were truly happy with pick 37 then, we'd have already said yes to Geelong because clearly, that's why they involved Essendon in the Kelly deal to get that pick to trade to us for Jack.
Fvck off Geelong. Pay the price or jog on back to methtown

If Stux is requesting a trade to ONE TEAM ONLY and his condition means we DON'T GET NEAR HIS PROPER MARKET VALUE
then I'm sorry but I think he should accept a renegotiated contract so at least we're not paying him hundreds of
thousands for playing for another side.

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
Jack's 5 year contract was probably heavily weighted to the last couple of years so that we could afford Riewoldt, Montagna etc in the early years. Can't see him giving up the cream. It is in our best interests to share the cost with Geelong, get a reasonable draft pick (in the 30's) and move on. Personally I doubt whether he can regain the fitness and skills to be a top class player again.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Wed 09 Oct 2019 6:12pm If Stux is requesting a trade to ONE TEAM ONLY and his condition means we DON'T GET NEAR HIS PROPER MARKET VALUE

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
I don't understand. If he leaves Saints, isn't his contract with Saints null and void? Negotiates a new contract with Geelong, probably at a lower figure, and we have no responsibility re the contract. Doesn't mean we can't contribute to the contract to get the deal done though.Waltzing St Kilda wrote: ↑Wed 09 Oct 2019 6:12pm If Stux is requesting a trade to ONE TEAM ONLY and his condition means we DON'T GET NEAR HIS PROPER MARKET VALUE

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
Well, apparently Cats now have 5 draft picks amongst first 37 players, after the Kelly deal. Stuv deal looking more favourable for us....and they desperately need Jack because fit he’s more than a Gun! Not quite so fit, just a gun!!
Go you good things....!!!

He will not and cannot play at StKilda next year from what I’ve heard.

Re: Kelly deal done / Pick 24 our goal now ?
Sounds like the deal to me...he is contracted, if he wants to continue to play and Geelong would like him there, why would we need to compromise? In any case, it has a long way to play out, would be surprised if it wasn't the last trade done.

Really, living under a rock?
Definitely not going to air it on a public forum, so no need asking!
Suffice to say, he will definitely leave.
