where did you get that "word" ?B.M wrote: ↑Tue 01 Oct 2019 3:12pm The word is we are willing to let Jack go for a late pick, as that is all Geelong is willing to offer and we will do what is right and best for Steven.
Constable will NOT be traded.
We are also probably going to accept pick 33 for Bruce, which I find staggering. A speculative pick for a B Grade Power Forward with 100 games left in him.
What’s the latest on Jack Steven?

By asking people who know a lot in AFL circles and are well connected, one bloke actually plays at the dogs and is looking forward to playing with Juice another who knows what’s going on at Geelong.
They are busting their balls trying to persuade Kelly to stay, will only accept 2 x top ten picks for him. Have offered him a very good contract.

Yes free up money to pay for Hannas and Billings .
Might as well see what we can get for Billings while we are at it will not be a power club with him in the side

Can't wait to see him take the field for Geelong's VFL team.

Geeez that sucks
How is it that we continuously get reamed in this process
Every time there’s a trade we seem to have absolutely no bargaining power.
So sick of it

I think that it is more that Freo will have two earlyish first round trade picks whereas WCE have none.To the top wrote: ↑Tue 01 Oct 2019 12:28pm Interesting that Geelong say they will prefer to deal with Fremantle over Kelly, BECAUSE West Coast are in contention for a Premiership so trading Kelly to West Coast will strengthen who Geelong see as a direct rival.
Kelly seems to want WCE though.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Regrettably, the Saints look likely to be the losers in this whole matter. Geelong’s recruiting officer has ruled out Charlie Constable as a swap so we face the very likely and unpalatable reality that the Cats will merely give us their pick 54 for Stuv. This is highway robbery and it seems there’s nothing we can do about it.
This is most unfortunate as we currently have no second or third round picks. How on earth can the club be bold during this draft period when they have so little to offer other clubs? Or are we again going to sacrifice more quality future picks? Sigh

I can see it coming, yes, but we'll only be losers if we chose to be...he's a contracted player, if he sits the year out at this point of his career it will cost him more than it will cost us. Get a late first rounder thanks Cats, then come back to us.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Well as far as draft picks goes we can barely pick our nose.
So the rubbish pick Geelong give us will be useless.
May as well as sit him out for the year and show the comp we aren't pushovers.
Same with Bruce.
Both contracted players.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
I was thinking exactly the same thing regarding the decision and the club wanting to portray itself as doing what's politically correct
After all, the CEO has a reputation for it
The priority for our club is to maximise what we get if a player wishes to break their contract. It's simply a business decision. It doesn't make sense to give your opposition an advantage

The business decision was to keep Steven and not entertain a trade in 2018.
We got 7 games out of him and lost absolutely all bargaining power.
This is the real world. You can choose to say no and the likely outcome is paying out this healthy contract for no output next season but is that really a ‘business’ decision in reality?
Or do you mean business decision i.e throws the toys out of the cot hissy fit business decision? If so you are right.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
There’s something totally not right about this situation. If Stuv has a contract then he has to honour it. He can’t just say, “ I refuse to play unless you send to Geelong for bugger all. That or I’ll sit it out and you can pay me anyway”. It’s a two way street, especially when someone is being paid upwards of $12,000 a week. If we end up losing him for a third rounder, that’s just wrong. He could do a big pre-season and be a really good player for another 3 years. F*** Geelong.Spinner wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2019 3:47amScollop wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2019 2:47amI was thinking exactly the same thing regarding the decision and the club wanting to portray itself as doing what's politically correct

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Stop rewriting history. You weren't privy to the conversations Steven had with the club or his situation, which obviously changed. What happened at the end of 2018 is irrelevant now.Spinner wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2019 3:47amScollop wrote: ↑Wed 02 Oct 2019 2:47amI was thinking exactly the same thing regarding the decision and the club wanting to portray itself as doing what's politically correct
