Lets hope this isn't true, but if Jack is screwing us then we should consider testing him through the legal system.The_Dud wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 1:21pm Geelong isn’t getting one over us, Jack Steven is.
Basically reading between the lines he’s said he doesn’t want to play football unless it’s at Geelong. This gives us no bargaining power, contract or not. Geelong knows we either take what they’ve got or pay a bloke $600-800k to not play for us again next season. Why would they give us anything more than the minimum?
The decent move by Jack would have been to leave last year while he had much more value. Tell Richo you were going to sit out most of next season if you stayed and you want to help the club get something for you in return.

Jack will go but cats will need to come to the party. It will come down to how badly they want him. If Kelly goes to Freo then we have a three way trade that complicates things further

Late third round. Exchange of picks possibly. Or bundled in as part of another deal.
Whatever it is will not be much.
If anyone really wants to complain, blame Richo who vetoed him going last year when we would have gained good value for Jack.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
Interesting that Geelong say they will prefer to deal with Fremantle over Kelly, BECAUSE West Coast are in contention for a Premiership so trading Kelly to West Coast will strengthen who Geelong see as a direct rival.
Then they want Steven from St Kilda.
For what?
Given the disclosed attitude of Geelong, I would respond that St Kilda see themselves in direct competition with Geelong (with the proviso that we not play them at Geelong), that Steven is contracted to St Kilda so he either plays at St Kilda or nowhere because why would we strengthen Geelong and weaken St Kilda?
Unless Geelong talk a trade of like for like.
If Steven does not play, and we forego Pick 34 in the upcoming Draft, so what?
When you get to Pick 34 it is a needle in a haystack selection.
The First Round is where you improve from (in time).

Very interesting comments, where did that comment come from the coach or list manager? To the top wrote: ↑Tue 01 Oct 2019 12:28pm Interesting that Geelong say they will prefer to deal with Fremantle over Kelly, BECAUSE West Coast are in contention for a Premiership so trading Kelly to West Coast will strengthen who Geelong see as a direct rival.

It would be a real slap in the face to Freo.

I know we have to think about jack to a degree but we also need to consider the club as well. Too late after second round imo so I'd keep him. He is worth more to us than pick 52.

At that pick we will not pay money.
If they give us a better pick they might.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
100000% correct. Where we are now about to get royally bent over by the Cats is a direct result of Richo making him stay last year. This is the abject example of why clubs say that when a player wants to get; let them go. All we've done is delay the inevitable. I get why Richo wanted Jack to stay - let's face it; he was much more of a chance to win games and a final with Jack inside our tent than not. Not exactly a whole of club viewpoint was it? Last year - we could've dealt with the Cats from a much more forceful position.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 01 Oct 2019 12:23pmCats will only pay peanuts for him.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Tue 01 Oct 2019 12:10pm Jack will go but cats will need to come to the party. I would rather he stay than be bent over by those creeps.
Geelong give a reasonable pick or no deal and he can retire if he wants.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
just no foresight by the club to keep him this year when he wanted out.
his value has nosedived and we paid a large salary for basically no return.
did the club think he'd change his mind? once a player wants out, especially if suffering mental issues, then move him on asap.
not sure why we even played him in the last round. i would've rested him and hoped that three goal game pushed his value a bit. but we all saw a pretty immobile and very unfit steven run out a week later.
based on that why would geelong offer more?
just cut our losses and move him on. by the time we're fighting for the eight steven won't be in their best 22.
yes we get screwed again, but the clubs own stupid fault again.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
We know what he is capable of..if we can keep him..get him fit, body and mind, he would be a real bonus for us to climb the ladder next year along with the new talent.
This is what I'm hoping the club is concentrating on rather than eagerly looking for a trade..
If Jack wants out regardless then so be it. but we'd better not get steak knives.

Re: What’s the latest on Jack Steven?
The word is we are willing to let Jack go for a late pick, as that is all Geelong is willing to offer and we will do what is right and best for Steven.
Constable will NOT be traded.
We are also probably going to accept pick 33 for Bruce, which I find staggering. A speculative pick for a B Grade Power Forward with 100 games left in him.
