I'm joining the conspiracy theorists - current coach and management determined to undermine our progress and ensure we're out of contention for at least another 10 years.
Let's just say that if secret agents had infiltrated our club with the express purpose of weakening us to the point of making the
supporters amenable to transfer to another state ... well, they couldn't have done a better job.
Trading out Gresham, ffs ...
It might be post GF depression but I'm mourning losing Jack Steven and Bruce. They are some of the few characters we have on the books. I think I'm too sentimental for my own good. I'm going to miss them. Bruce might not be Buddy but he's our not quite Buddy. If Gresham and Carlisle go I'm going to be in the corner rocking. I'm from the old days of one club players and favourite sons.

Is Jack definitely going? I haven't seen any announcement, not that it means anything.

From everything I have heard it sounds more likely than unlikely.
It really sounds like Jack Steven is going and the Saints are happy to help him due to his health battles, and thats fair enough but I would be pissed off if Geelong tales advantage and we get nothing on return and end up paying a large portion of his contract as reported. I hope he changes his mind and stays.
The main thing is that the Saints contest finals and get our 2nd flag. I really don't care who comes and goes after 6 years of going exactly nowhere as a club. Time for a new direction, new faces, and hopefully a much improved Saints in 2020.

Spert, I'm with you here. No room for sentiment, so long as it's a all planned properly (and this is the elephant in the room)

Bruce and Lonie for 12.
12 and Acres for Hill
5 and Carlisle for BKing
Newnes for ZJones
Steven for Constable
2020 2nd Rnd for RYDER and Gray
Get it done saints. would be awesome .
Why not? thats fair.
Wed be finals team then. 2 kings up forward Battle, Austin Roberton Wilkie down back
Gray is massive upgrade. Jones and Hill on wings.
I really like it but it seems a little generous.
Maybe 12 and a 3rd rounder back in the Lonie / Bruce deal with the dogs?
12 and Acres for Hill and a 4th rounder.
5 and Carlisle for B King is fair.
Newnes compensation pick for Z Jones.
Steven for Constable is fair.
Gray and Ryder for 4th Rounder from Fremantle and 3rd rounder from Bulldogs.
AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

I like the attention to picking up what seems at surface value to be "scraps" of draft picks with the main deals. They become the little extras you pay back out to get deals done....
The heavy metal artist formerly known as True Believer!
IF you look around the room and can't identify who the sucker is, then it's probably you!
Fremantle KNOW we have Pick 6 - and they will accept nothing less for Hill, as you would expect
They will look to replace Hill with Kelly from Geelong - and that is where 5 will go plus
Put yourself in Fremantle’s position
They have made their demand to St Kilda - and any attempt by St Kilda to manipulate to be in a position to offer less will result in the old adage “for every action there is a reaction” will cone into play
My view (again!) is that we have invested in a core post the Draft that gave us Billings, Dunstan and Acres in the First Round (where your good players generally come from) and that we stick to the knitting
If we can get a Hill we do what is necessary to satisfy ( in this case) Fremantle

A lot of what he is saying at present is that the club is having a cultural change at present and they want some hard workers/trainers in, and on the other side some players who perhaps do not apply themselves enough (ie not really bad influences, but who perhaps to not have the elite drive and focus that the club now wants and which for example the Tigers radiate) are either being traded, or the club is open to trading them.
Good. No point making significant list changes without changing the culture that underpins it. Needed and well overdue in my opinion.
Con Gorozides will be smiling...at least a little
The cleanout that should have occurred 5-6 years ago is finally emerging
I'm stoked that we have a quality person as coach who learnt all about leadership during his playing days at one of the strongest clubs in the VFL at that time. Carlton were a club that demanded and expected success like no other
Many people would remember that the Carlton crew and Kenny Sheldon in particular were the beginnings of our rise back up the ladder and to that famous finals victory in 1992 that gave the club back it's hope of a second premiership
I don't think people understand how good a coach Brett Ratten will turn out to be. He has had some of the best coaches of all time as his mentors and I believe he will successfully communicate and execute his plan
We have also managed to lure a bloke from the Hawthorn University in Roughy... who I believe will change the culture at our footy club and teach our players what it means to put the club first
5 for King should be enough -- he can't be worth any more than what they paid for him in the first place.
Leave Carlisle out of it!
Having won the half time sprint he might command a little more. 5 + Newnes?

I hope you're right. Looks like a second rate has been to me. We'll see. Roughy will be as useful as Slater.
Gresham has some elite traits. I really would prefer to keep him.
Ben King needs to get to Saints and next years first plus Carlisle should be enough for those greedy bastards.
