No Saints players suspended in 2019
Gee I miss the old day when we had a few hard nuts that overstepped the line on the odd occasion and copped a week for good measure.
Three quarters of our 2019 list wouldn’t hurt a fly.
I know getting a suspension is difficult now, but we need some more dirt under the nails and blood on our hands so to speak.
What I’d give for our club to get someone like Toby Greene

Re: No Saints players suspended in 2019
Traditionally we would get someone suspended in the last round so that we would have one extra player missing for Round One to go along with all the pre season injuries.
I’m thinking Montagna and Nathan Brown in recent years.

Re: No Saints players suspended in 2019
We had more than our fair share of blokes sitting in the stands this year, last thing we needed was guys pretending to be tough and getting rubbed out.
Toby Greene is a Class A d**khead and I don't reckon the hero aura that's surrounding him this week would be as strong if GWS got rolled last week when he's missing.
I want our guys to nail someone in a tackle, or crunch a pack going for a mark, but we can live without the crap that gets players rubbed out these days (Greene and Hawkins being perfect examples).

Yep... is that Richmond game where we flogged them the last major / ugly suspension for this group? Not condoning that but we don’t even push the boundaries.
This incident might have put us back into our shell.
Pushing boundaries / aggressive style is something Hawks for a long time and GWS now are doing extremely well.

We havent had any mongrel or winning attitude since RL departed, hopefully things will change now.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Thu 26 Sep 2019 8:18am Gee I miss the old day when we had a few hard nuts that overstepped the line on the odd occasion and copped a week for good measure.

I tend to agree
We need some mongrel around the footy
Would love a Mitch Robinson type in our team
We r very bland in that way but hopefully that will change

Technically...Nathan Brown was suspended during the season, missing the first round.
The hard units were what attracted me to the team when I was a kid...we weren't winning too many games, but didn't lose too many fights either. The team showed some character if nothing else.

I reckon we were 90 points up against Richmond when Membrey took out Dylan Grimes in 2017. It’s been all downhill since then.

i like it
smart
lets lull those umpires into a false sense of how
good we are first
get on the right side of the free kick count
then get naughty when it matters
i like it as well
when we hurt em hard
is that a conundrum or a paradox

Re: No Saints players suspended in 2019
The last game with any real niggle from us as a side was the Carlton, Carlisle, Captain Cuck match I think. The club pushed the players under the bus and stamped out any passion at that point. We seem to have never really got it back since.
With out Bruce and Steven the club is going to be particularly bland, the guys are the last of the real characters in the club. Neither were rough but they were a bit of glitter above the beige. I hope a few really step up next year and add a bit of colour, Parker and Hind both have potential as characters. A lot of the younger guys are good players but seem a bit dull. We need some old fashioned cult figures to carry us through the bad times.

Yeah, nothing better than good players missing for undisciplined acts
Nothing tough about getting suspended
Tough is being hard at the ball

But you need to push the limits. Sometimes that means you go over. Not all the time. Not normally, but sometimes....

Re: No Saints players suspended in 2019
Why do you need to push the limits?
Just go hard at the footy, or the man with the footy... legally and play to the best of your ability consistently.
Being a dirty player has zero to do with being a tough player.
All the crap Toby does, doesn’t make him a gun, his natural talent does. If he cut that s*** out of his game he’d be a better player.
Player like Lenny, Maxie, Blake,B Voss, Ball, Dempster, Geary, Reiwoldt, Kosi, Powell, Hamill
They were tough players
Only dirty player who I considered tough was Bakes, but I was embarrassed when he king hit Kane Johnson. It was a dog act and he was better than that. He is remembered as a little thug, and he was more than that.

Re: No Saints players suspended in 2019
Ha ha, I watch that Baker boy from Richmond and I see Stevie Baker He even looks like him
Stevie would still be able to get a fair (er...unfair) suspension
