Is Jill a restricted FA or has his poor years meant lack of decent B&F finishes means he’s just a FA and we get squat for him.
Even as a restricted FA he would get us at best a third round pick.
Must say I like the fact he wants out - I hope Ratts has suggested it’s in his best interests.
Thoughts?

I don't see him going anywhere because his value has dropped too much.
Not sure any club would be interested.

Gold Coast maybe? They’re full of duds and no one much wants to go there.Viscount Jeremiah wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 2:44pm I don't see him going anywhere because his value has dropped too much.

If a guy in his age bracket and with his attributes and experience is not being offered a healthy contract by GCS (who need experienced players in their mid 20's) then that should tell you everything.

As far as I am aware whether the player is a RFA or FA it makes know difference to what we get.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 2:42pm Is Jill a restricted FA or has his poor years meant lack of decent B&F finishes means he’s just a FA

What formula the AFL awards compensation picks by is their own secret (and history suggest that they fiddle with it), but they have indicated is that it is principally based on age, size and length of contract.
Age is in our favour, but not so much the other two, and especially the $$$
So far no club has come out and said they want. Only some are rumoured to have expressed interest.
https://www.afl.com.au/afl-hq/the-afl-e ... ree-agency
Compensation in the form of AFL allocated draft picks apply to clubs with a net loss of free agents. This is based on a formula determined by the AFL.
COMPENSATION
A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.
The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:
1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.
Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.
Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:
• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round
In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
Newnes is restricted, means he's on a decent packet (Top 10 on our list I believe??)
There's only been a single 3rd round Restricted FA compo given, the rest have been end of 2nd round or better.
The AFL doesn't want us to languish, I reckon we'll get pretty generous compo as half compo/half priority pick similar to what Frawley got Melb. Keep in mind, Geelong got a first round pick for Steven Motlop!!!
I'm tipping it will be the 3rd band, meaning we'll get about Pick 24. It will probably go straight to the Swans for Jones, and I reckon Newnes might be there too - they were snooping around this time last year....

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
All depends on what he gets at the new club , as much as anything.
If we are lucky will get a second round pick if someome offers him a multi year contract of around $450-$500.

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
That annoying thing about Newnes is he was on track to become a gun.
In 2016 he had 500 + possessions, kicked 15 goals and only 2 behinds of the wing.
That was his 4th year I think?

He's quite reliable, has good stamina and decent pace. A team like Hawthorn could probably find a place for him and he could become a decent player.

There would be uproar by most clubs if we got pick 24ish for Jill.St Chris wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 3:41pm Newnes is restricted, means he's on a decent packet (Top 10 on our list I believe??)

That’s way over the odds - I’d be delighted with pick 44, and most clubs know that’s about his real trade value. Whilst the AFL would like us to improve, there has to be some semblance of realism in this, so start of third round it would be at very best.

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
No there wouldn't be an uproar. All clubs know that the compensation system/formula is a complete sham that the AFL uses as a de-facto equalisation tool to help the poor. And clubs are starting to rort it by not matching deals they easily could because they know the compo pick is better than retaining the player.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2019 10:22amThere would be uproar by most clubs if we got pick 24ish for Jill.St Chris wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 3:41pm Newnes is restricted, means he's on a decent packet (Top 10 on our list I believe??)

Was there an uproar when the Dawks got pick 18-ish for Buddy (way unders)? Or when Melbourne got pick 3 for James Frawley (way overs)?
Nope ...

Jack and Jill.
We have enough Jack’s that they have to be identified somehow.

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
he spent at least a year in the leadership group, so he must have been doing something right
at the club, the coaches saw something good about him.
I admired him and thought he would be a gun,
until he got concussed against Swans a few years ago, head over the ball, he came off second best.
He was never the same after that.

Well you are way, way behind the times. The players decided on the nick name for each Jack. Jill was one of the first nic's.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Tue 24 Sep 2019 10:32am Another terrible nickname.

Re: Where will Newnes go and what do we get for Jill?
I'm pretty sure there wasn't an uproar. It was more of a shake of the head/roll of the eyes because everyone knew/knows that it's a complete bullsh!t formula for losing a player that it unpublished, known only to the AFL and completely arbitrary in application
Go you red, black & white warriors
