Josh Bruce to be traded?

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Note how Collingwood CHF was invisible for most of yesterdays game Why would you ever get rid of someone who can play the position and always has a go? On what metric is is improving the club to replace Bruce for a speculative pick. We had the number 1 pick not long ago- loook how well that went .

Without Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Adams and Treloar - Collingwood would be a bottom 4 team.poatina wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 10:54am Note how Collingwood CHF was invisible for most of yesterdays game Why would you ever get rid of someone who can play the position and always has a go? With them, they're top 2-3.

Let’s try and help all the other teams - I’m sure there are some out there would be happy to have our best players cheap

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Do you think they would trade out one of Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Treloar or Adams for him though?
If not, why not?
Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Geelong also could do with a CHF and relief ruck based on Friday nights performance.
How about Steven and bruce for their 1st rounder, then we use that for hill, throw in Newnes as well if they want.
Then we can take pick 5 to the draft.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
I'm not in favour of trading our better players I think we should keep them and try to trade in more which is easier said than done;

Me neither. But without a crack midfield - you just stay mediocre.
I can't see us getting a crack midfield unless we trade for it.
And we only have 3 or 4 guys with any trade value to speak of.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Bruce gets run under the footy not unlike Richo used to, or misjudges his marks. Don't get me wrong, I want to keep Bruce, but the way we deliver the footy is more suited to Max King than him.
In reality, Bruce shows plenty but can be very frustrating also. Maybe it is time for change?

Change to whom?
If we trade Bruce... who is our power forward for 2020?
Maybe Brad Hill can play CHF?

If Bruce is traded, who plays tall forward for us?
Marshall, Carlisle, who else?

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Exactly right. The consequence of say, losing Bruce is two-fold. Not only does our forward line potentially become weaker but the Dogs' forward line becomes equally harder to defend.longtimesaint wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 5:02pm Let’s try and help all the other teams - I’m sure there are some out there would be happy to have our best players cheap
If it turns our that receiving a 2nd Rd pick for Bruce which ends up going to Sydney for Zac Jones then I think we'll have gone backwards. It's hard to find Bruce types than Jones types.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Agree SAINTMATT i think trading Bruce would be a bad result for St.Kilda King Bruce Membury in the forward line sounds a good set up i believe for 2020.
Yet we are chasing Jones who is a bad disposal off the footy and quite often butchers the ball.
We are chasing Ryder who is overweight slow past his best and 31+. will backup Marshall for a couple of years then what we are back to square one looking for another ruckman.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
I think we'll do what other clubs are doing and looking to bring in a State League ruckman to support and develop under Marshall and Ryder. I'm ok with that (so long as we select the right player).Laurie wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 3:42pm Agree SAINTMATT i think trading Bruce would be a bad result for St.Kilda King Bruce Membury in the forward line sounds a good set up i believe for 2020.

The Bruce thing troubles me though. King is like a thoroughbred - so fine and lithe. He looks like he could be snapped in half. There's so much upside but - there's no way that you could expect him to do the bullocking work that Bruce does in crashing packs and bringing the ball to ground. He'll need a lot more bulk for that.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
If Bruce gets moved on, I don't know who is the power froward for 2020
But
Our new coach has stated that something needs to change, now Bruce might not be the only one (spread over years), but I'm pretty sure the coach was talking about goal kicking efficiency???
What I absolutely do know, is
Rnd 1 2020 - 18 players will line-up for da Saints, and that will include 1 x FF and 1 x CHF
Pretty sure Max will be one of them, but who knows who will be the other???

So Max King
A 19yo 90kg kid who hasn’t played a game is our starting Key Forward. Playing on gorilla full backs?
Good plan

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Max King could be a complete fail, he looks like porcelain giraffe, there is a very long way to go before Max king establishes himself in the side and so why would you trade out the player that gives him some cover not to mention rob us of our structure. Crazy talk. Club will go backward if they trade Bruce out.

You're taking the piss!

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Bruce averaged 1.5 goals per game.
His output is average at best.
Granted he could improve under a coach who lets him play, rather than tries to use him as a human battering ram with very little effect.
And totally agree that easing King whilst Bruce is around is the ideal scenario.
However if we get a B Crouch in along with Hill - you'd have to seriously consider robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
Bruce is so average other clubs, better clubs, have put a big deal in front of him.
He’s no superstar, but he’s important to structure.
Midfielders are about everywhere, 197cm 100kg Key forwards who can catch are much harder to find. Each team has 6-10 midfielders... 1-2 power forwards
Brad Crouch coming to StK ... dreaming!

Re: Josh Bruce to be traded?
I never realised StK was such a one man side.
So if Bruce stays and does his knee at the beginning of the next season, we are stuffed? I would hope not but by all accounts the impending doom of the loss of Bruce seems bigger than when Plugger & Hall both left for Sydney.
Apologies if I struggle to accept this. As much as Marshall was an accidental ruckman, Bruce was an accidental key forward, an average one but a better forward than back. Marshall will continue to become an excellent ruckman and may become an even greater CHF / Ruck. Bruce has peaked and is replaceable in my opinion. If he isn't then St Kilda is in worse shape than anyone cares to admit.
We have pick #5 and two round 4 selections. We future sold draft picks when we didn't need to. Why do Sydney have our round 2 pick again?
There is a lot of panic about losing Bruce & Steven but how do we magically improve our list, draft position, trade options & keep them?
Surely Hill & the packet of Doritos we get for Newnes is all we need for 2020.
