If it's not Ryder - who will it be ? If Marshall had of gone down this year we would have been in major strife. Ryder has got to be an improvement on Longer & Pierce. as back up.

So you think Ryder will play at Sandy (or Franga) as back up like Pierce or Longer waiting for a Marshall injury?derby Street wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 10:19am If it's not Ryder - who will it be ? Do you believe Ryder nominated Saint with a view to playing VFL?

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
When Ross Lyon brought Steven King and Michael Gardiner to St Kilda, following Grant Thomas' philosophical lack of interest in a strong ruck, this proved to be a vital factor in the rise of the Saints to play in Grand Finals 2009/2010 - at the time Ben McEvoy was like Rowan Marshall, a promising young talent but not yet a match winner.
Paddy Ryder, even in the twilight of his playing career, will provide the team with a wealth of experience as a leading ruckman which will be of considerable benefit to the further development of Marshall, both in the ruck and resting forward - an excellent move that will be a major factor in St Kilda contending for finals in 2020!

We were contending in 09/10 with no ruck in the top 12 in the league.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 11:57am When Ross Lyon brought Steven King and Michael Gardiner to St Kilda, following Grant Thomas' philosophical lack of interest in a strong ruck, this proved to be a vital factor in the rise of the Saints to play in Grand Finals 2009/2010 - at the time Ben McEvoy was like Rowan Marshall, a promising young talent but not yet a match winner.

Gardiner and King were the top ups we were lacking at the time.
We are not contending now and will not in Ryders tenure.
Lastly Ryder is finished!
s*** trade if we do it.
He’ll likely stifle Marshalls development as he isn’t coming to play twos.

Well, lets face it, whatever I say is looking a shitload more accurate than whatever you say at this point.Bernard Shakey wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 12:30pmWhatever you say.
Have there been any reports of him nominating the Saints or anyone else? This is painfully drawn out, I'd laugh if he lined up for Port next year, he does have an offer after all.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Fair enough Joffa, it's a matter of opinion, my view is that given the likelihood of St Kilda fielding a much stronger lineup next year - Hannebery (fully fit), Bradley Hill, Zak Jones, Max King and a fully fit Jake Carlisle, it is crucial that the Saints recruit an experienced ruckman - look at the importance of another "has-been" ruckman, Shane Mumford for the Giants this year. I remain convinced that Paddy Ryder will be able to perform a similar role at St Klda in 2020.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 12:11pmWe were contending in 09/10 with no ruck in the top 12 in the league.Sanctorum wrote: ↑Sun 22 Sep 2019 11:57am When Ross Lyon brought Steven King and Michael Gardiner to St Kilda, following Grant Thomas' philosophical lack of interest in a strong ruck, this proved to be a vital factor in the rise of the Saints to play in Grand Finals 2009/2010 - at the time Ben McEvoy was like Rowan Marshall, a promising young talent but not yet a match winner.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
No thanks.
A bloke named Hickey would be a nice fit.
You’re not going to play Ryder, Marshall, Bruce, Membrey, King, Carlisle, Battle and Brown in the same side.
King, Marshall, Bruce and Membrey is the best setup IMO, with Bruce giving Marshall a chop out when needed.

Rutagelea for Steven.
Plenty of upside, can play key forward and ruck.
Far better option than Ryder and Patrick (Constable) Cripps.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
I like it if it doesn't cost much. Buys us 2 years and by then hopefully Marshall will be relived by King.
Young basketballer then can develop at Sandy and play in the ruck rather than what we have had in the past with too many ruckmen who cant play any other positions.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Ryder needs a new club and 3 more years of wages. He would be quite happy to leave Port and play as a 2nd ruck at the Saints in my opinion. He would be 2nd or 3rd in line at Port anyway if he stayed and might only get 1 more year max.

Would hate to see King reduced to a broken down hack by forcing him to play ruck!

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Thanks Nostradamus.
Yes, so many players want to join us.
Ryder will help us contend for finals. We are topping up to make the eight.
After 8 years of not playing finals, we desperately need to just make the eight. It’s not about winning a flag at this stage - we need to prove we can play finals and then hopefully we become a bit more of a wanted club.
People say Brisbane failed as they didn’t win a final which I guess is fair as they finished 2nd, but in reality had they just made the Prelims that would’ve been a massive achievement given their finish last year. (Thank god they didn’t play Collingwood in the Prelim as their lack of experience would’ve killed them off and we’d be stuck with the Pies in the Granny!)

If Ryder is part of a trade strategy that somehow sees Bruce leave the club, it is a terrible call.saintspremiers wrote: ↑Mon 23 Sep 2019 7:52amThanks Nostradamus.

What exactly are we planning to do with Ryder?
1st Ruck ahead of Marshall?
2nd Ruck coming of the bench?
Forward in place of Bruce?
Reserve ruck in case Marshall is injured?
Nee!

After it turns out a mistake, it’ll be ok to bag out those responsible. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Challenge the decision now, and you get abused.
I would be surprised if Ryder turns out to even be effective, but would gladly eat humble pie. Don’t see it happening though, he is not even a good fit.
