Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
Danny you were the heart, soul and guts of St Kilda, on the field, and off it, always.
You touched so many hearts and minds on your way through life, in so many ways.
Sincere condolences to your family.
I can hardly see the screen as I type this.
RIP, Spud.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
Few in footy really transcend club loyalties to become universally admired and liked. Danny Frawley could do that, he had that quality about him that made you want to like him.
We were very fortunate he was a Saint.
RIP

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
Apologies if this comes across as somewhat melodramatic.
I was at work this evening... for those that don’t know, I’m a mental health clinician and do out reach crisis work.
I had 4 scheduled visits by myself. My sister called me after the first one at around 1830 with the news (I don’t typically follow any media). I just sat there in my car first in shock, then denial, then devastated. I then went on to my next 2 visits... full compartmental mode... clinician on during the visit... put on SEN during the drive and listened to the tribute pretty much trying not to cry.
Positive and up lifting during my visits... trying hard not to cry after.
Frawley was one of the good guys... the heroes. Always for the good of everyone.
How can this happen to the hero in his twilight?
I think I’ll remember this night for the rest of my life

I remember where I was when peter brock died and will always remember where I was when I was told about Spud.
Just speechless.
Will always remember that richmond game he coached when half of Ballarat came down to support him, such was his popularity.

RIP Spud
Numb last night watching all the media and tributes, and still numb this morning. Probably even more so now.
The epitome of FQF.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
The media coverage of this death seems to be based on a "fact" that it was suicide and not misadventure. I do hope that such speculation is based on very strong evidence obtained from investigators (who really shouldn't be providing it). I appreciate that these days, "old fashioned" things like waiting for the results of a full inquiry, take a back seat to the demands of those who write front pages.

Absolutely shattered.
Heartfelt condolences to Frawley family.
Maybe the St Kilda football club can get a special jumper made for the entire 2020 season with the initials DF - 2 underneath the crest as a tribute.

The No.2 guernsey ought to be retired and then awarded to our next Premiership Captain, whenever that may be.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
Condolences to the family.
Personally, I'm really struggling with this one. He was playing in the era where I first got involved with football and for reasons that I don't really understand, I am finding this incredibly saddening. It honestly feels like a member of the family is gone.
Rarely beaten, hard as a cats head. Played on absolute goal kicking monsters in the era of the big forwards. Mostly surrounded by average teams where his opponents were getting the ball delivered on a silver platter.
Danny was always the one over the past decade or so that was always standing up for or barracking for the club in the media. Even if it was just putting on a jumper or waving a scarf around. The respect that he earned as a player was definitely not upheld as he moved into coaching at times. It seems only now that the effect that he had on the people around him is being truly contemplated. The way that he is being spoken of now is quite incredible.
He was our defender and our shield.
And will be missed.

Wouldn't be averse to Danny's first Saints number (#49) being given to our no 1 draftee each year either.Linton Lodger wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2019 11:05am The No.2 guernsey ought to be retired and then awarded to our next Premiership Captain, whenever that may be.

I know its not the time to say it, but I think the number 2 should be retired, possibly permanently.

Don’t agree, no.1 hasn’t been retired and it creates a precedence.darylcowie wrote: ↑Tue 10 Sep 2019 2:44pm I know its not the time to say it, but I think the number 2 should be retired, possibly permanently.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
Yeah maybe, perhaps it should be given to our best defender, who isn't Carlisle by the way.
Maybe it should be given to our next full-back in the making, whoever that is.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
My first memory of Spud was playing in a game at Moorabbin in the mid-80s and wearing Ablett Sr like a glove.
He always played on the best attacking option in the opposition and nullified their influence.
It just so happened that Ablett was playing on the wing, but Spud still had the tank to run with him all game.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Frawley
R.I.P. Spud
So sad.
He was tough, reliable and ours.
A champion bloke and a great leader.
I loved him as a player and admired him throughout his post playing days in the various roles he has had.
Few people have the love of everyone in the AFL community but he did. A sad day for the Saints and the game in general.
Thoughts and best wishes to his family.
In a way it feels similar to Steve Irwin’s death to me.
He was universally loved, a public figure and someone I was always happy to watch or listen to. He made me smile like thousands of others.
He will be sadly missed.
