Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
Think it’s madness to trade Bruce as we need him to guide King in his first year.
King is 19 and lightly framed as well as inexperienced so needs support.
The idea of taking Marshall away from ruck where he has starred and sending him forward where he has been fairly ordinary is foolish in the extreme.

13 disposals, 5 marks, 10 hit outs, .5 goals is a healthy return from a 201cm 90kg rookie in his first 13 games. His move to the Ruck certainly proved he can ruck but it detracted nothing from his ability to play CHF.

Yep, I maintain that to win a premiership you need players that can mark the footy on or near all four corners of the square i.e. HFF & HBF. A mobile Marshall has already shown he can do this. Josh Bruce doesn't do this alot

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
Don't forget he was playing up forward and we were coached by Cho in is his first 13 games. I distinctly remember our gameplan in some matches being based on zigzag football in the backline and holding on to the footy around the centre instead of giving blokes like Marshall a decent 1-1 opportunity

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
The Dogs have thrown everything at a forward/ruck before. Pick 12 for Bruce now is not out of the question.
5 and 12 for Hill and 6 is very possible. Steak knives are available.
Ben King for 6 rings a bell.
Then it's Tomlinson and Ryder for peanuts.
Steven could stay or provide stimulus for a trade for a good mid. I'd rather keep Steven than Bruce.

I think you may mean the FF they threw everything at who was actually not that good as a FF, BUT who had one very good game as a ruck/forward in the most important game of the year? Lucky too as on that day the opposition ruck stocks were not good.

I think they always intended to develop the big boy.as a ruck forward. Lucky and unlucky are very subjective. You could say Bevo was lucky and equally that Richo was unlucky. Then you can put your balls on the line and try and make your own luck.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 11:48am

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
There are parallels between us and the Doggies that would blow ya mind. The big boy was and should still be a very good footballer at the Doggies.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 11:58amI think they always intended to develop the big boy.as a ruck forward. There's two players that no longer play for them, the other one couldn't get a kick in a recent final
similar things might just be happening at Linton Street

Stringer is lazy and he's a f***wit. How is that similar to Josh?

The parallel may be directed at a perceived lazy and farkwitted Carlisle. If Josh is traded it will be because of his versatility and commitment and the need to trade to get quality kicks into the list.

Nah, I believe you were the one who mentioned Cameron.CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 7:54amI didn't mention 70+. You did in regard to Cameron. Your estimate was 60-70 for Bruce. It's ok if you want to back out of it. He may even stay.saintbob wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 12:22amThere was no mention of 70+ goals by anyone other than CQ, who was putting his own relish on it to get his point across.Ghost Like wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 9:05amI guess you're replying to CQ and if so you failed to address the point they made.
Bruce may or may not thrive, either way I do not see him kicking these 70+ goals people suddenly believe he's capable of. He will thrive because they continue to win games on the back of a AA midfield.
We keep him, bank our 36 goals for 2020 and scratch our heads why we weren't able to significantly change our list to get us out of the bottom six. Then realise our midfield is so poor it has made Brad Hill look slow.
I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see next year.
By the way I’m happy to stick by what I said.

Bob. Take a deep breath and walk away from the keyboard.saintbob wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 10:32pmReally, I don’t believe I compared him to Cameron but what ever rocks your boat.
I’m sure Cameron would’ve kicked 70+ had GWS
had all their best mids available all year.

Bruce is a heart-and-soul player of the club. He is far from the problem, I hope he stays.

Nothing. But that's the only mention of 70+ in the whole conversion. Mentioned by you and quoted by me. Then you say no I mentioned it. Try and keep up.saintbob wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 6:56pmYeah Cameron would’ve kicked 70+, so what’s wrong with that?CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 6:29pmBob. Yes, but the reason is because the similarities in why Stringer was moved on, and why Jake might be also moved on. Not so much 'Lazy'

Jake is staying. Ratten will now have a BIG say in List Management.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
In that scenario you'd drop Bruce back to FF and watch him average 2-3 goals a game. So, do we throw Marshall back in the ruck or trade King out?barneyboyz wrote: ↑Fri 06 Sep 2019 10:45amYep, I maintain that to win a premiership you need players that can mark the footy on or near all four corners of the square i.e. HFF & HBF. Things don't add up to me, although now would be a good time to not get attached to any player.

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
All I heard Ratten say was that both guys are contracted and he saw them playing at St.Kilda. That doesn't mean they are staying. I'll believe it when the trade period has finished. For now the fun of speculating is exciting.
He didn't mention Jack Stevens contract. He just wants Jack to be happy and healthy. He also stated that if talented player want to come, we want to have them.
Sometimes you can't have everything you want.

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
Hill, Burton, Anderson, probably throw in Suckling. Obviously different age profile to us and at opposite end of free agency spectrum. Whether/when this will come back and bite them in terms of a rebuild is still to be determined. Point is they have parted with quality...and sentiment (JKennedy).
Can someone provide an update on Clavarino's progress? Unfortunately I can't watch the Sandy games and only saw him in the trial. How long before he can do what Battle did this year?
