The team might be 5 years in the making but if you listen to all the Trade talk, it could be one pre season to potentially decimate it.desertsaint wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 8:39pm well not happy at all. we played safe and continue on the same path.
but he's our coach and gotta wish him all the best in the job and hope he proves us doubters wrong.
no doubt there will be a lot of very frustrated and angry saints fans if he doesn't. he won't be given the same length of grace richo received. this is a team five years in the making, and unrealistic expectation or not, it is time for it to contend.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Ratten gets the gig
I just want to watch us be competitive enough next year to be a realistic shot at playing finals. We are miles off a flag, even though 2020 was meant to be our flag year according to the five year plan.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 8:54pmThe team might be 5 years in the making but if you listen to all the Trade talk, it could be one pre season to potentially decimate it.desertsaint wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 8:39pm well not happy at all. we played safe and continue on the same path.

Re: Ratten gets the gig
I remember Watters... there was a lot of articles about the process and the interview. He seemed very impressive. Most seemed happy.
Also remember Richo’s appointment...
Actually a lot of disappointment at the time. All the rumour mills and tips had us taking Mark Williams who would have been my choice.

Given he/she asked the question and then answered it you feel there is a profound hindsight point still to come. If only she/be quoted, we could have seen he/she answer her/his own question!!!The Linton Street Flash wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 9:28pmYou would have found that rather annoying I’d imagine?

Re: Ratten gets the gig
If the players and the club are behind him.
So am I.
A big part of me wanted the romance of Harvey as our coach, and the glow of a returning legend to lead again.
But it's not about that right now, it's about the best possible.
Fingers crossed, only time will tell.

Re: Ratten gets the gig
I wish him the very best. I'm guessing he's known for some time, hence the heavy rumours of trades ( in & out ).
History is not in his favour but someone has to be our 2nd Premiership coach, don't they? Gawd I hope it's Ratten.

I can’t understand the negativity about Ratten being appointed.
He was clearly the best choice for the role.

Denis Pagan 104 games 25 won 77 lost 2 drawn 24.04 % win 2003–2007 yearschook23 wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 11:57pmPlease explain why you think this.....longtimesaint wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 11:53pm I can’t understand the negativity about Ratten being appointed.
He was clearly the best choice for the role.
Coached previously......with only a 50% win record......
Brett Ratten 120 games 60 won 59 lost 1 drawn 50.00 % win 2007–2012 years
Mick Malthouse 54 games 20 won 33 lost 1 drawn 37.04 % win 2013–2015 years
Brett Ratten's record has to be seen in perspective. He was bookended by multi-premiership coaches in Denis Pagan and Mick Malthouse.
During his time at Carlton, Pagan had an appalling record of just 24%
Ratten did amazingly well to get 50% after having to take over from Pagan's train wreck. Ratten's record was 0-6 as caretaker. So after a rough start he produced a fine record. Carlton had unrealistic finals expectations, and these were never going to be met. Ratten was sacked.
Enter Malthouse who showed the reality of the Carlton list. He managed a miserly 37%
By contrast to two highly successful coaches, Ratten shone out.
It'd be unwise to judge Ratten before he has had time to implement his coaching strategies as our appointed senior coach.

I don’t mind a good cull. It’s absolutely and utterly undeniable that it’s taken us 5 years to build what is comfortably the worst midfield in the modern era of the AFL.Wayne42 wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 8:54pmThe team might be 5 years in the making but if you listen to all the Trade talk, it could be one pre season to potentially decimate it.desertsaint wrote: ↑Thu 05 Sep 2019 8:39pm well not happy at all. we played safe and continue on the same path.

Re: Ratten gets the gig
Ratten did have the addition of one C.Judd at Carlton who won three straight B&Fs and a Brownlow.
