Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
What commonsense does this idea have ?? None. Delivery into the forward line has been our main problem for several years now - not so much about poor saints competitors in the forward line. King is just starting out. Membery is very good, but only medium height. Ryder if he comes in, is just a big plodder.
Bruce gives us attack and some ferocity. Who will he be replaced with? On the other side, trading Carlisle has its merits, with Battle the obvious replacement.
We need to be trading to "move forward," not stay about the same. Our past experience does not convince me that our people really know how to go about their Trading job, with game-deciding outcomes.

So, trade Carlisle for who? Keep Bruce and improve how?Junction Oval wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 9:07pm What commonsense does this idea have ?? None. Trade Carlisle for top MIDS - we have a Carlisle replacement in Battle. Keep Bruce - top mids will be able to feed to him and others with some efficiency/effectiveness for a change.

Which top mid, who takes Carlisle and what do we get? It sounds so easy when you hear it?Junction Oval wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 9:21pm Trade Carlisle for top MIDS - we have a Carlisle replacement in Battle. Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
In my opinion we as supporters severely overrate Bruce. He had 18 goals on the board after 15 games this season. Granted he had some injury issues but that seems to happen most years.
Someone said he is a hardworking GOP and that is spot on. Has he ever had a high finish in our b&f? I rate Membrey a lot higher, much more consistent.
This is the last season he may have some currency. If a club is willing to offer a pick in the top 20 we’d be mad not to look at it.
We also need picks to bring in Brad Hill & potentially Ben King at the end of 2020. Shuffling of picks must be done now to load up otherwise we will have nothing to offer

Trading is a merry-go-round, which I am not party to, so I won't try to name, names. That's why they pay the big bucks to people who are supposed to be in-the-know. However, our guys are simply not good enough at this game.
It's a question of what the Club needs, so go out and get the job done, but experience shows that we haven't been able to do that over many years now.

Jeremy Cameron would be very happy Bruce left GWS then. He couldn't kick 70 this year.

Bruce is like Cam Mooney 10 years ago. Honest forward who presents and consistently makes a good contest. Except we don’t have and won’t for some time have a midfield like the cats had. If dogs offer good value trade I’d like to think we would consider it.

Wow.
No wonder we are finishing in the bottom half consistently.
Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
A sad joke.
We trade out any player who is in demand from another club and keep the players nobody else wants.
Then wonder why we don’t improve.

Really, I don’t believe I compared him to Cameron but what ever rocks your boat.
I’m sure Cameron would’ve kicked 70+ had GWS
had all their best mids available all year.

Bruce contracted still for a year
Doubt he will leave or want to unless it's an offer too good to refuse for BOTH sides

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
What are your thoughts on Marshall? Rooney and Dal both in the media suggested his long term is forward who sometimes rucks. Marshall creates a good contest, works hard and is good when the ball hits the ground. Is that much different to Bruce? I see the difference that Marshall pinch hitting ruck would be a weapon, whereas Bruce is not a great back up ruck option.B.M wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 7:58pm If we are planning a forward set up which replaces Bruce with Marshall or Ryder... we are an absolute basket case
I won’t be disgusted about the Bruce trade because he is such a great player... I will be disgusted because it will show the decision makers at the club have NFI
We need Bruce, not because he’s such a gun forward... we need him to be a bullock and take the heat off King
I’d be happy for the club to give Marshall a year to develop in forward line in which case Ryder is a good option. If it doesn’t work Marshall back to #1 ruck and King into forward line. A good pick/kid for Bruce I dont understand the hysteria.

Re: Doggies offer 3 to 4 year deal for Bruce
I'm just disappointed I missed all those games that have made Bruce the Son of Plugger. He's also hit his prime (Apparently), 36 goals a season, that's huge. Could be 70+ with a decent midfield (Apparently), the Dogs or Pies will be lucky to get that in two seasons.
How do we get decent mids if we refuse to let go players that have an interest from other clubs? Obviously no one wants our inside mids or our stockpile of HBFs.
I believe whoever has been made coach is aware of Bruce & Carlisle being made available for trades, it is most likely Ratten. It's obviously not B.M.. Whoever that coach is believes, in conjunction with our recruiters, that both can be covered and will realise our trade needs.
N.B.: I have to believe that or else the next coach has been severely & negligently undermined.

You didn't compare him to Cameron. You elevated him to elite status with a prediction of 70 goals via the Bulldog mids. In the last 6 years only Josh Kennedy has kicked 70 or more goals. Bruce has managed 159 from 106 games. Seriously.saintbob wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 10:32pmReally, I don’t believe I compared him to Cameron but what ever rocks your boat.

How many goals would these elite forwards you mention kick with the silver service Bruce has had to contend with for the last 3-4 years?CQ SAINT wrote: ↑Wed 04 Sep 2019 11:15pmYou didn't compare him to Cameron.
